I stumbled onto this site last April. I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did! It has helped me improve my writing. The talent of writers and poets on the site is absolutely amazing! I've learned of the different forms and type of poetry that you can write (usually because I was challenged in a contest). This is truly a great place to share with like-minded people and I've made some wonderful friends! Such sharing is also nice because we can each other in our prayers.
Very regulated and slanted towards religious viewpoints not shard by all. They have a leviathan like character in their matrix called, Tom. He simply rules in a very subjective and discretionary manner. Remember laws or rules enforced arbitrarily is the most insidious evil.
I was a member of FanStory for 3 years and have now joined the All Poetry website.
I found FanStory to be filled with cronyism and vote buying. They repeat the same contests over and over again, and the same people keep winning all the time. The reviews are carried out on a very friendly basis and you seldom find any constructive criticism that is really helpful. I won 16 contests during my time at Fanstory, all of which were blind i. E no one knows whose poem is being displayed, but as soon as the poets names were displayed against their poems I did not receive one single vote in 3 years. Numerous poems thar came last in FanStory have won multiple gold medals in All Poetry, which is free to join and all postings are free. They also have a far greater variety of contests to choose from and I have earned over 1900 awards in a little over 3 years,. And would never consider returning to Fanstory, which is a costly website as opposed to All Poetry, which is free.
I've been a member of FanStory for a while, and it's a great site with a nice writers. There's lots of good writing to read. People post all kinds of genres. But it's not a great feedback site It's more for posting your reading to be looked at by others, but not critiqued on a professional level. Still love it!
I was excited to try out FanStory, especially for their competitions, quick feedback, and "great people"--as noted in several reviews on this forum. Long story short: the website is... not good. The writing on the website is... not good. I hate to say that any writing is bad, but the site encourages bland, dentist-office-poster poetry. I've attached some examples below of what poetry looks like on the site. (There are also short stories, novelettes, novellas, and novels). I do not mean to bash any writer--I just think it is important for potential clients to see what kind of community they're joining.
I might also note that there are lots of highly insensitive poems about current events. I have read several haikus about George Floyd's murder, and other's about Breonna Taylor's. They are badly done and highly insensitive. If this matters to you, the site also pumps out Christian content. Lots of poems about prayer, repentance, faith.
And more so, as many of these reviews have mentioned, the site is a total scam. I recommend reading Mike P.'s review, "The more you spend, the higher you rank as a 'writer'?". You have to pay at least fifty or sixty dollars to even be noticed, and the reviews you receive will be bland, overly general, and not at all critical. I have NEVER seen someone give less than five stars. I think, also, for a price as steep as sixty dollars, one might expect at least a semblance of a nice website. It seems like it hasn't been updated since 2010--links lead to blank pages, fonts never match, and the site in general functions badly.
As a young writer, FanStory has been discouraging. The site encourages writers to tuck away their individuality and pay for attention. It's a breeding ground for stupendously mediocre work, churned out over and over again. I recommend finding another site to publish your work: perhaps HelloPoetry, AllPoetry, Medium, or Scribophile.
Very disappointed. No critiques are provided from the contest judges. Not once did the feedback I receive from other members address technical aspects of my writing.
There seems to be a cultural expectation that all pieces are rated 5 out of 5. And yes, scoring a piece a 3 can result in one of your pieces being subjected to retaliation scoring.
Members are generally cordial. Some appreciated my feedback - they reworked their piece and asked me to provide feedback on the edits. So that was a positive experience.
Definitely not of value to writers who want meaningful critiques of their writing.
I'm closing my account.
I am a "fan". If you enjoy writing poetry, stories or are working on a book this is an excellent site for you. I've always felt something deep within me to write. I was embarrassed to reveal it. Because of my experience here that has changed. I've overcome my fears. The feedback I have received has been very positive. There are things I need to work on and the reviewers (many published authors) have shown me where I can improve my writing.
I've been writing on Fanstory for seven years. The feedback that I have received has really helped me grow as a writer. The contests are fun and challenge me to try new things. The site is wonderful for anyone that enjoys writing even if you are just getting started. Go ahead and join - you'll be glad you did!
This is an incredible website for someone who, like me, like most writers, works alone without the regular interaction (read that as recognition and encouragement) of colleagues. I have produced more viable art since joining this site than I have in almost two years... and I've been a member for less than a month! I heartily recommend this for anyone who might be experiencing writers block, or might benefit from the immediate gratification of getting feedback from experts and lay people alike. This site offers challenges and rewards to writers at every stage of their development, from beginning poets to experienced novelists and all levels in between. Whether your work is fiction, non-fiction, poetry or prose, this is a site for everyone who wants to improve their skills and enhance their talent. To the founders of this site, I say THANK YOU! - PEACE -
I just want to say how happy I am to have found this site. I've always enjoyed writing but at the same time had struggled with confidence and actually getting things finished. Since joining last month I have written (and finished!) 7 stories. The feedback I received from other writers on Fanstory has helped me. The site encourages you to write and share your writing. Reviewers on the site are wonderful about helping you. It's a great idea and it WORKS.
I just want to say how happy I am to have found this site. I've always wanted to write, but have always struggled with confidence and actually getting things finished. I've been on here most days since I joined last month, and in that time I've written 5 stories, actually finished them and received good feedback. This has boosted my confidence. Now that I have started writing, I am finding it really hard to stop!
I heartily nominate FanStory as the most helpful website I have ever come across that truly delivers what it promises. Not only is it a forum in which your poetry and stories are reviewed by other aspiring writers (I had 110 reviews of my latest story!), but I've been able to develop my critical skills by reviewing other members' works, as well. There are contests galore to enter, daily, with generous payouts... and... well, I see no reason to go anywhere else!
It made me a much better writer. When I first joined I didn't really understand how to write a poem - keep a rhythm, or what makes the poem stand out. However, through feedback from writers I learned more about what poetry is all about and worked hard to improve. I enjoy sharing my writing. Entering challenging contests - and learning.
Just in the short time I've been here, I've learned so much. I learn from every review - good or bad. You can always learn, always improve, and always get better. This site offers you that opportunity. I am just getting started as a writer and am finding it very helpful. There are experienced authors looking to give that help.
I have been using fanstory.com for the past 2 years and absolutely LOVE it. I use it to share my poetry and participate in the writing contests. There are so many contests to choose from and there are new contests every day. The interacting with other writers is a really unique feature of the site. Posting your writing and learning what others think about it is a fantastic experience. I'm not a professional writer and have no plan to become one. So at first I was a little hesitant. But I learned that while this site does have professional writers everyone (including the pros) are looking to help each other improve. Love it.
You'll love this site. The ranking system is amazing, it's so nice to see how well my writing is doing in every category. The review system is great. I like hearing what others think about the writing that I share. I know I have a lot to improve and the community that makes Fanstory what it is are so willing to help me. It's easy to use. I can see from one glimpse everything I need, there is always so much to explore and I have never been bored being on this site. Feedback is always required for improving quality. I will give FanStory.com five stars anytime.
My experience over the past two years with Fanstory has been a very positive learning experience. I connected with a great community of writers and have learned how to write poetry, short stories and even books.
FanStory is a large and popular writing site. At Fanstory you can share your poetry or stories with other writers. It's sort of the Facebook of the writing world. But with many more features geared towards the more professional minded writer. You can also enter writing contests with cash prizes. You also get an online profile that you can use to connect with other writers, publishers, and individuals. I know Fanstory has a lot of writers that have gone on to be published traditionally through connections made not his site.
Highly recommended! To all of my friends and members on FanStory, I send a big cyber hug because without all of you and your wonderful teaching abilities and support I would have never had been published. FanStory is the real deal. The feedback I have received has been so very helpful in helping me with my poetry. I have learned so much over the years by being part of this community of writers and artists.
I enjoy sharing what I write on fanstory. I'm amazed at how posting my work here has improved my writing. It's great to receive unbiased feedback, corrections and suggestion from published authors. I've made some great friendships along the way as well. Through both posting and reviewing the work of others, I've learned what works and what doesn't.
Without finding this site, I don't think my dream of having my book published in print would have been realized.
FanStory is a great place to get honest opinions on what you write. The writing contests are challenging and offer a fun dimension to writing. It's helpful to write a book chapter or poem and have a place where you can get feedback from other writers. With the help from others on this site I learned how to write poems and book chapters that hold the interest of the reader This site is simply wonderful and helped me immensely become a much better writer.
This is the real deal and one of the most professional writing sites I have been involved with since I started writing. I highly recommend it.
Answer: That varies. Everyone has a different background. We have published authors writing reviews. And there are also those that are just getting started writing.
Answer: As far as I can gather as I was there ten (10) minutes ago where I was offered the chance to enter a free poetry contest if I updated my mebership - for a fee of course. Anybody who believes this is a place where a writer can improve himself is living in a dream world and deserves to be fleeced by these gangsters. As they say: There is one born every minute.
Answer: Yes, $10 a month with long-term money-savings options.

Answer: Each contest has its own criteria. Usually a minimum and/or maximum word count limit. With some contests you must pay "member cents". (Member cents are earned from writing reviews, or are bought outright). There averages probably about one new contest a day. With so many, winning one is not that big of a deal. The exception is the "site contests." (All the other contests are put forth by the members). Site contests cost nothing to enter, and often provide a cash prize of up to $100. So winning site contests is much more prestigious than the other ones. Plus, many of the member contests have very few entrants.
Answer: We think so! With upgraded membership you can enter all contests with cash prizes. That's $5,000 in prizes this year! Membership is only $9.95 per month (with discounts available for our one year or two year membership). You will also get feedback for everything you write.
