I've been a customer for a couple of months now, moving from Ally to EverBank. Just want to share a few things that you just can't tell from merely comparing interest rates and fees.
Pros: (1) Great interest rates, better than Ally on both checking and savings. (2) No problem using mobile check deposit.
Cons: (1) Slow, clunky website. (2) Bill Pay requires you to schedule payment days in advance of a bill's due date, as opposed to Ally's approach of using a "deliver on" date for which you can reliably just use a bill's due date. (3) Slow ACH transfers; 1-2 business days for the actual transfer are followed by a 3-business-day hold where you cannot use the money. So it's about 5 business days before ACH-transferred money is available.
I moved to EverBank because of a really bad experience with Ally, where they took 4 days to execute a simple wire transfer and delayed my closing on a house. Compared to Ally, you will earn better interest, but the clunky website and slow ACH transfers are something you have to accept.
I have perfect credit. Because I've had my identity stolen by hackers, there's a special status on my credit report that requires extra verification when I apply for a new account. In practice, some banks and credit cards handle this smoothly, and others just reject my application outright. I am very disappointed to learn that EverBank is one of the latter. It makes me feel like a victim all over again.
Getting my money back from Everbank is a joke. When my CD matured on 1/17, I contacted them and asked that they transfer the funds to another bank. They don't do that. The alternative was for them to mail me a check. Today marks day 12 and still no check.
This morning Everbank confirm that, yes, the check was placed in the mail on the 18th, and it's their policy to do nothing until 14 days have passed. To which I responded that it doesn't take that long for mail delivery, unless they forgot to put a postal stamp on the envelope.
So I asked if I don't receive the check in the next 2 days, they will take action? N O! According to Everbank, their 14 day count is based on business days. Incredible, pathetic bank.
You can be sure that when my other CDs mature I'll be closing them and NEVER doing business with EVERBANK again.
Update on Status:
Stupid, stupid bank. They mailed the check to a different state that I hadn't lived in for more than 7 months. Three different Everbank employees confirmed the correct address. What's more, they sent my 1099 Int to the correct address. Stupid, stupid, bank.
