I should have taken Chinese classes in college, but I didn't. I realized how useful it could be to me as a banker after I took my first job after graduating. Well, I signed up for a handful of different programs, but to be honest, none were effective. A lot of money down the drain. EChineseLearning is the most recent school I've tried, and so far I'm extremely satisfied. I've been with them for three months. It feels like my teachers care about me. They're enthusiastic. And I also get one-on-one classes, which is excellent. Can't say enough good things about them.
My company gave me 6 months notice that I would be moving to Shanghai last year. They also made it clear I should try learning some Chinese. I did some free trials with other companies and decided to go with this one. Learning online has its ups and downs, but overall this site was excellent preparation for my China move. When I arrived here I was able to hit the ground running and converse on certain topics and local Chinese really appreciated my effort. Good experience.
Good service. From signing up for the free trial and getting almost instant feedback to set up a meeting, to starting classes, the echineselearning team is always on call. They try to ensure you are getting their full attention and help. I really enjoyed this aspect as taking classes online can seem like a scam (less likely nowadays but still possible) or like you would not be able to get the full range of the product as you might if you are discussing it in person. The classes are quick, clean and efficient. You get what you pay for and honestly its ridiculously convenient.
eChineseLearning.com has been one of the best things I've done this year. Both scheduling classes and having the decision on what to learn are (both) very flexible, so I can learn at my own pace and focus on my problem areas. It is much more focused on me than any other program I have been in. Since I often find myself in China for work, my teacher has been showing me phrases specific to my industry, so I can usually immediately put what I've learnt to the test. I feel like I really am able to impress business partners in China with my new knowledge. Simply put, eChineseLearning is in a league of its own. No other program on the market can equal it for depth or value. Students avoid the often stale environment of endless repetition and worksheets. Every class is a lively experience with a native speaker reinforcing students' grammar, introducing colloquialisms and offering encouragement exactly when it's needed. I feel this has been one of the best investments of my life.
I've been wanting to learn Mandarin ever since I was in middle school (a while ago). But I also work full-time and don't have the space in my schedule to do classes at community college or university. EChineseLearning has made it possible to do both--they work around my availability and make sure my lessons are right on time. I've been taking classes with with them for 6 months and I'm already getting my tones down. Helen, my teacher, is the BEST!
I happened to see eChineseLearning's YouTube videos, and decided to study with them.
I thought It would be hard for me to learn anything online until I signed up for a one-year plan last year.
Sometimes I can't get enough personal speaking time with the teachers during the Chinese lessons at offline schools. But I can get immediate feedback in the online classroom, and find out my mistakes in speaking and writing. My teacher is so kind, as she always gives me clear guidance and advice.
I will continue taking lessons on the site in the future, and recommend them to my friends :)
I was offered one free introductory lesson. However I was first obliged to supply my credit card information. And my advance full course payment of AU$2,382.24 [11,480 RMB] was processed immediately, with my request for a full refund being refused on at least three occasions. EChineselearning is an unethical online trader dealing in lies and deception and deserves to be black-listed.
I contacted them, and they offered a free lesson, which I tried, but ultimately decided not to hire them because of their rigid price structure. Since then, they have been emailing me and calling me regularly, despite my at-first polite then later forceful requests that they stop. Some extremely pushy person called Doris Zhang ignores all requests that they stop. Do not provide contact information with this company, or you'll regret it.
The teachers try their best. The classes are not structured, so you have to determine structure of the lessons yourself. As a student this is not really the service one signs up for. The connection problems are frequent due to their teachers working from home with power failures or a poor internet connection. Although they have an office that their teachers can work from. I feel EChineseLearning is very expensive for what you get. You also have to pay additional fees to buy the textbooks which are not included in the package. If you want to learn chinese, these may be other providers that will offer a better service.
Hi Gina,
I am disappointed to read about the issues you raise. Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this caused you. I can assure you that this is not typical of our normally high levels of service and we will investigate further to ensure there is no repeat of this.

My family's been putting pressure on my to pick up Chinese or Arabic. I decided to go with Chinese because I think the culture is fascinating. Been using this company online from home for the past few months. I get more guidance and feedback than I did when I was in the classroom. I'd highly recommend it if you want to improve your speaking skills.
Before switching careers from teaching to international trade, I decided to take a year to do some odd jobs and clear my head. During this time, I realized that learning Mandarin Chinese could make a huge difference for my future.
Since I don't live anywhere near a school with Chinese classes, I decided to learn through apps and online lessons. I went with echineselearning based on the strength of their free trial lesson.
I would still like to learn face-to-face in future lessons, as opposed to just the computer. So, I may go to China if the opportunity comes up. However, for the time being, this is the best option to begin Chinese if you're in a situation such as mine.
I married a Mandarin-speaker, and I have wanted my kids to be exposed to the language in a more formal setting. But not too formal, since we're juggling soccer practice and a million schedules. This has been the perfect fit for our family. The kids are improving every day, their teaching is giving them so much more than I could at home, or my husband could when he's not working. Highly recommend!
Turns out I was basically wasting my time in Mandarin class at my local community school. I'm not even sure the teacher was Chinese lol
Anyway, I've been hearing more about these online learning classes and I decided to give echineselearning a shot after taking a few free trials with the various online companies.
So far this has been a great experience. I have the class all to myself with the teacher, so if I make any mistakes, they immediately correct me. In a class with other students I rarely got this kind of attention.
Overall, I've made a lot of progress over the past few months and will continue with these lessons. Hopefully, my new language skill will help me develop my career in Asia in the future.
Go for it!
Adopting is a learning curve on so many levels, but these classes with echineselearning truly made the process so much less stressful and so much more exciting. I knew I'd be able to understand my daughter better--and that first visit in china was priceless. We could communicate! This first year with her has been so enriching since I can still understand bits and pieces and can encourage her to keep speaking chinese. So, so glad I got referred to echineselearning for my lessons. Best decision I made (besides adopting my daughter, of course!)
This year my husband's company merged with a Chinese company and we quickly learned that we'd be spending 6 months in Shanghai at the beginning of this summer. You can imagine it was a surprise! My husband was too busy to study Chinese, so I signed up for lessons with echineselearning. I thought that I'd study with them a few times a week then have classes with my family to relay what I'd learned online.
Actually, it worked out fairly well. My children and husband still struggle with the tones, but I feel that I have them down pretty well. At least, when we're in Shanghai, I'll be our Chinese leader!
It was my new years resolution to sign up for classes with echineselearning. It was one of the best decision I've made! Of course, I'm far from being fluent yet, but I can see a lot of progress and I'm slowly becoming able to communicate. Thanks!
I'm so glad I went with this program vs. taking or spending more time and money on language courses in school. I have learned so much more than I did at my first semester of college Chinese course. It's the custom nature of the lessons and speaking with a native teacher. Definitely recommend.
Lately I've been teaching English online with children in China. I had the idea of signing our boy, age 8, up for online language lessons. First, I assumed that Spanish would be the most helpful. However, he will have the opportunity to study that for free in school. Plus, so many other young adults are learning Spanish.
After seeing all the opportunity popping up between the US and China, my husband and I decided to go with Chinese lessons. We shopped around a bit and signed up with eChineseLearning. The teachers could make a connection with the student.
Shockingly, our son was so interested in the lessons, that we didn't even have to supervise him. We could go about our day and just remind him to be in front of the computer at class time and the teacher took care of everything. What a surprise!
Overall, it's a great introduction to Mandarin for a young student. He doesn't feel self-conscious or distracted.
I decided to give teaching English a shot and China has the highest salaries at the moment, so I decided about six months ago to move to Beijing. I've lived in Mexico before and had success learning some Spanish through books and tapes. After picking up some books at the library and trying to learn Chinese on my own, I was getting nowhere. It's just too high a hurdle if you haven't been around it much in your life. I shopped around online and went with e-chinese-learning, as I liked the customer service and free features. I've made great progress so far and I'll continue the lessons even when I arrive in Shanghai in September for the teaching season.
I live in rural Saskatchewan. It's probably one of the few places on Earth with no Chinese people. I decided to follow my girlfriend to Taiwan next year to teach English. I wanted a head start in learning Chinese, since I hate relying on hand gestures and looking stupid in foreign countries. This site has been working really well for me, as the teachers can work on my schedule and I don't have to drive to a city to study with a native Chinese teacher. The classes are progressively helpful and the teachers are enthusiastic and very friendly.
Answer: Not free. It is a Chinese school where only Chinese can be learned, not Japanese. I haven't studied Japanese and I don't know which Japanese language schools are good.
eChineseLearning has a rating of 4.8 stars from 163 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with eChineseLearning most frequently mention free trial, online lessons and high school. eChineseLearning ranks 185th among Language Learning sites.
Hi A Y.,
