I recently had an extremely frustrating experience with Draft2Digital's customer support that I feel compelled to share. After contacting them with what I believed was a straightforward question about their platform, I became engaged in a back-and-forth exchange spanning more than a half dozen emails. Unfortunately, not only was my question never fully addressed, but the tone of the responses grew increasingly curt and dismissive.
To my surprise, rather than working toward a resolution, the representative suggested I delete my account entirely—an unnecessary and unprofessional escalation that left me stunned. When I asked for the issue to be escalated to someone higher up, I was flatly refused. The representative claimed there was no reason for escalation, stating that I had already received all the support I needed and required. This couldn't have been further from the truth, as my original issue remained unresolved.
As an author who relies on self-publishing platforms, I expected a much higher standard of professionalism and support. Instead, I felt dismissed and even antagonized by a company that I trusted with my work. A proper escalation or acknowledgment of the poor handling of this situation could have resolved the matter amicably, but instead, the refusal to do so has left me questioning whether D2D truly values its authors.
I am sharing this review not only in hopes that someone from D2D's management sees it and takes appropriate action but also to caution other authors about the level of support they may encounter at D2D. I hope D2D addresses these issues to prevent future authors from having similarly negative and frustrating experiences with their work on this platform.

Nothing going on.
October 12, 2023

They keep everything in the dark. No sales at all from their efforts. While the places I publish myself get regular sales. Scammers. It took me four months before they processed one of my novels from "Preparing Manuscript" status to "Published." The email response was, "they are still processing it." Very shady and the TrustPilot reviews are packed with poor reviews. Same on this site. Massive poor reviews.

Excellent service
April 13, 2021

I've been with them a few years now. They pay on time, they have excellent customer support, and they distribute widely. There may be some quirks to their conversion tools but overall I am really happy with them, and use them as my sole ebook distributor.

A sleazy company
March 15, 2024

Do not distribute through Draft2Digital if you write romance or erotica. Their content moderators are even stricter than Amazon—to the point of absurdity.

If you work with this company, you run the risk of getting banned + D2D withholding your royalties.

Apparently, my books are too racy for them. They're more than happy to pocket that dirty money though. A bunch of crooks.

Avoid if you're a publisher
September 23, 2023

Draft2Digital randomly shuts down publisher accounts without warning. They did this to me, and when I emailed asking why, on multiple attempts, they wouldn't answer. Zero communication, at all. In addition, every email I sent asking for assistance with publishing also went unanswered.

There are far better options out there. Even Amazon KDP is better.

Everything was ok at first with Tax interview. But...when I tried publish a book I received the letter that my tax interview was not ok. Why?! I have no intention of cheating, but they already think so. Why? Because I am not an US citizen? I have received very impolite e-mails from them.

Terrible Company
September 1, 2023

DONT USE THIS COMPANY. GO To LULU.COM instead
Draft2Digital a terribly unprofessional company. I listed my book and disclosed that I used CHAT GPT and my book was delisted from all platforms. I immediately signed up for Lulu.com and they have listed my book for Global Distribution. I have also spent 200.00 on my book with LULU. I am also contacting the Better Business Bureau. There are many many 1.0 reviews, I should have checked before trying to do business with people who dont care. It wont be long and they will be out of Business!

Need help
September 28, 2023

Hello, I would like to share my experience and seek an explanation from Draft2Digital, who are no longer responding to my messages. Indeed, I sent a message to Draft2Digital yesterday to inquire when I would receive my money. In return, I received a threatening and incomprehensible message from Tara stating that I had opened a second account. Tara warned that if I did it again, they would keep my money and delete my account. While it's nice to give a warning, the account they're accusing me of creating was actually made by my mother. She provided her identification documents and wanted to sell some books on my behalf. Yet, Draft2Digital responded in the worst way possible, accusing me of identity theft. Furthermore, they have removed all my books without any reason and are no longer responding to my messages. I've had the experience of working with many people, but I've never been treated the way Draft2Digital has treated me. Amazon's agents are great, they respond with a smile, and I get along very well with everyone. But Draft2Digital is special; they are mean and very hurtful. I hope to get some explanations here because this company is way too harsh with its clients.

Update: Considering my previous review, I'm gonna have to mark it as solved by D2D Tax Verification Team Support...

I'm considering to re evaluate D2D not based on my problem with Tax verification with them, but on my past experience publishing with them since I joined in 2020. Have to say while they distribute to only few channels for ebooks, but the D2D Print is surpreme service! With good book layout conversion and excellent distribution service.

Hello everyone,

This is really the most terrible, unprofessional, and nightmare process I have ever faced in my life!

Let me first introduce my self briefly, I'm M Soliman, a professor of engineering at the American University in Cairo. If you google my full author name I own the first 5-6 pages of Google!

I joined D2D 5 years ago and started with publishing eBooks. I had my books published with other publishers in Paperback, Digital and Audio formats before then. I liked D2D at the first glance, that's why I made sure to be one of the first to try D2D Print when it initially started and was in the beta face. I have more than 30 books published through D2D and others.

I never have faced any issue verifying my identity with McGraw-Hill, KDP, Ingram Spark, Google Play, Payoneer, PayPal...etc usually the process is smooth, hassle free and straight forward. In Draft2Digital it seems things are hugely different! There are many and many customers who are giving negative reviews for their experience with D2D because of the KYC awful process (please look at Trustpilot reviews for example). D2D is earning mass of ugly reviews globally because of this frustrated process. Also passing authors informative to a third party company like Lilaham or whatever, doesn't look good; and is a clear break of law!

I'm not sure why I have being asked to submit this verification about my ADDRESS again! It was done when I did this interview in 2021. Nothing changed. Verifying identity is not a frequent thing! It should be done once and for all! Haven't seen this thing ever in my life! Even after I did the interview, I got an email asking to do it again (revise below emails) like if the server is glitching!

When I did this interview last time in 2021, I sent my passport to verify my address and it was done! What happened again? Is your server losing the information and documents? I have an Egyptian TIN that I decided to use to claim the 15% treaty between US and Egypt, what's wrong in this? All other publishers and online distributors I deal with kept motivating me to do this to get a benefit from the treaty percentage. IRS shouldn't deduct 30% from the Egyptian people!

I was trying to just update the tax form in my D2D account with my new EG TIN to claim the treaty benefit (all other information remained the same) and my address never been changed. But not sure why it keeps saying Invalid address! And the guy who called "Lachlan Horsburgh" kept sending me asking for verification documents for my address and identity. Is this guy Trustworthy? Because we are passing sensitive information to him! I do understand he wants to make sure I'm from Egypt and I residence in Egypt. I already sent 5 supportive and sensitive official documents (National ID, Driving License, utility Bill, Passport and Bank Statement). I even had to send them twice! Today the same guy emailed me asking for a selfie photo holding these documents, and I did what he asked but it's extremely funny! Next time I'm going to send him a picture in the zoo to bring some entertainment :)) we need Lachlan to prove he is qualified to do the Tax verification process because things are getting very weird! Not intending to insult anyone, but this guy is claiming to be a compliance officer at Lilaham, while from his profile he is still an undergraduate student of Bachelor degree. Does Lilaham hire young guys who are still studying and doesn't hold any high graduate certification to do the Tax verification process for customers and authors of a big company like D2D?

I'm too worry about what's going on and thinking seriously of moving out from D2D; leaving very negative feedback to my colleagues and other authors about my experience at D2D.

Although the process is unprofessional, outaged and frustrating I did what I could to verify my identity and my address. By sending MORE THAN ENOUGH official documents stating my information, but the process is also too slow and full of hassles.

DATA PROTECTION & DISCLAIMER
Protection of my personal information is very seriously. All corresponding information sent in this email and in previous emails should be treated as confidential and should be handled in accordance with data protection legislation as well as with the terms of the US and International LAW. Any breakage will result in taking aggressive legal procedures.

Regards,
M Soliman

If you are looking for an alternative to distributing your electronic books, I would definitely recommend Draft2Digital. I only wish that the indie market wasn't held hostage by the largest online shopping company in the US.

I've found the staff at Draft2Digital to be quick in replying to e-mails, and eager to resolve any issues I might have had over the years. Publishing e-books through them is a breeze.

I've used Draft2Digital since 2020. They "lost" my proof POD book for 3 months, while telling me they are waiting for an email from Ingrams... They have no phone call service, and you wont have a screen to see the status. Because you have no agreement with Ingrams. D2d Support did not nothing to assist. Then, I get the book, but you can't order it. I filed a BBB complaint and finally my book shows up after 6 more months on Powell's and Amazon. Ingram will censor/quarantine your book, as D2D IS a SHILL corp for Ingrams.

Maybe its my book. The Exodus Theory: A Journey into the Spiritual Wilderness

So later, I get the KYC: retaliation. You have 30 days to answer their Tax email, but Lilaham Tax-entity never sent the email, requesting ID docs. They threaten to delete you, anyway. I'm American, using an American bank. Annual Royalties under $10, so no real security threat. I sent them the ID docs. But still, delayed and on hold, keeping royalties for months. Some authors claim to have hundreds of dollars seized. Mine just under $5.

They use the KYC as a weapon. Be prepared to be deleted by D2D, without question or mercy. And even if you send them the docs, they won't respond or update. Because they are hoping you don't respond, and then you are deleted.

I am a self-publish author and I decided to try them out and so I decided to publish a furry erotica that I also published on Amazon without any issues, and they claim the title was bestiality when it is not, then they claim I was banned for other reasons which is not true. As such they make up things as a means to get rid of you, as I told them that I have Autism, and that was when they decided to ban me, then with the merger with Smashwords as I been with them for a while, my account there was also banned as well due to these liars.

I also came to learn that anyone from certain countries have been banned from using Draft 2 Digital, most of them African countries named Nigeria. As such many of them went to Smashwords and now they are also concern about their accounts as well.

Just look at the review on Trustpilot regarding D2D or Draft 2 Digital and you can see for yourself. There customer support is not that good, and in fact are not all that helpful when I was with them and many times they were down right rude about things.

For job and personal reasons i was far from my computer and when i come back to D2D I sow my account blocked and all books delisted.
I was kicked out like a criminal without any posobility to come back an apply.
This is NOT the way.
NOT recomended.

Here is their email and attached photos of it.
