If you are using Skype or Teamspeak for gaming, Discord is saying, its time to ditch them.

I am Skype user, not happy that Microsoft took it over, but Skype works ( most of the time :D )

I have Teamspeak server too, it is not for free, but absolutely worth it to have, if you want to play or chat with friends.

Discord is for free, but even it is for free, not worth to try. Quality of service, makes me unhappy. Some moderators in general chat use very strange methods, just to show off, because they are moderators. I was trying to help a guy to get his stuff working, but then moderator said "I am the moderator" and I was banned and kicked from the channel.

So basically...

If you want to get professional service, get Teamspeak or Mumble for gaming. For calling and chatting Skype.

Just stay away from Discord. If something is for free, it has some catch.

Was pressured into getting Discord by others, but the platform as a whole seems to be complete trash.

After making an account, they wanted me to verify my email, which is fair enough. After doing so, they present me with captcha and for whatever reason Discord's captcha is hilariously bad. I thought captcha was standardized everywhere but apparently not, Discord's captcha somehow manages to be slower than the captcha i've encountered on literally any other site and in addition to that it has many issues verifying. After wasting a few minutes trying to get through their captcha I was presented with two options: give them my phone number or log out.

Think i'll just stick to steam and skype, thanks

I've definitely experienced the same thing others here have, and even though I think they're trying to do better, there's a lot of work to be done. Discord was made as a gaming platform, and even though it works great for that, there's a lot of privacy issues. I love communicating with my friends on this platform, but they're not great at handling reports and dealing with issues on their platform, like pedophelia, racism (despite their lovely statement when the BLM protests started), homophobia, transphobia, and other similar things.
The quality of voice and text chats is quite well, and it's fairly consistent in working. It's easy to use, and is great to talk to friends over the world. Just. It does have its issues.

Tried to make an account... was met with an infinate spinning bar. It's impossible to even get into the app because it can't handle something as basic as letting you sign in. A quick google search tells me others are having the same issue so apparently if you get unlucky you just can't use the app at all. Problem hasn't been fixed or adressed at all even though it's well known. Don't waste your time.

Discord is considered one of the most popular gaming/socialization websites in the world. I really don't know why. There are a LOT of toxic people there... that have caused me soooo many issues it is crazy. The moderation community is terrible, and the hackers... hohoho the hackers are everywhere! IP addresses being leaked left and right and people getting completely booted. It's sad, and a waste of time. Use Skype instead, they don't make you pay for better call quality.

Discord is allowing/promoting Russian propaganda to be spread to the the Russian people who now have no outside news. Discord is essentially working for Putin.

When I decided to use discord, It started 4 years ago, however I had a great experience with using the general app, however the support had a bit of an issue, so I reported actual bad users(they never seemed to be banned even though they actually broke TOS), I later had friends on different platforms contact me, that they were banned(without breaking the TOS), recently I had an alt get a phone verification requirement which means I need to have it attached to that account(they only allow one), which means I can't speak in phone verification guilds at all in my main account(which I really hate). Mainly they said my account was flagged and they aren't going to lift it, one I don't mind using discord but this is really inconvenient for me. The only thing I did on this alt was join a lot of guilds in a list of bot list(that's it). Mainly so I could get my bot to be more popular.

I use Discord alot for me and my friends, and, while some reviews complain about the community, they never talk about the functionality of this forever-indev application. All in all, the experience is fully enjoyable, and easy to use for its target demobraphic of teen-yound adult gamers.
