All these other kids complaining must not work a lot. I'm about 3 months ahead of everyone else in my local school because I spend a lot of time working on my lessons and work on the weekends. If you put in the time and effort, its really not that hard. Thanks to this school I'm going to be able to have an associates degree before I even graduate highschool. You just have to actually be motivated enough to do it yourself and actually spend time working ahead and you'll be fine. Since I work through everything a lot quicker, I normally do a lesson or two a day then have time to do whatever I please. If you don't put in the effort, your going to hate it but if your willing to actually work, it's a great school!
I have been going to this school for 3 years now, and I love it! The teachers are amazing! I was skeptical about going to this school, but I am so glad that I'm attending! Thank you ConnectionsAcademy!
Flexibility was key! Great learning experience. My high school son has thrived academically. If it weren't for the excessive emails I would have rated higher. Hopefully, senior year email's will be a lot more specific than just general high school. My son is poised for a great senior year and college thereafter.
This is our 3rd year and we love it! My daughter was struggling in regular school and barely making c grades. She has adhd, hearing issues due to childhood ear infections and was being bullied too. I do each lesson with her as she takes notes old school style in a spiral notebook. We can start later in the day and work at our own speed. The curriculum is so detailed and easy to navigate and understand especially in combination with the videos they use in lessons. Looking forward to field trips and some in person events to return. Overall this has been an amazing experience for us. She can actually recall what she has learned and relate it to things in her world. After tears and struggles through brick and mortar school, this has been such a blessing. Now she has been on the honor roll the last 3 years and even made it into the Junior National honor society this year!
Being on the honor roll and making it into the National Junior Honor Society are huge accomplishments, Sarah! We're so proud of your daughter for all she has accomplished and are thrilled that she has been able to reach her full potential with us! ~Alexis
Had to remove my daughter from public school because they weren't teaching her anything. She was a sophomore in high school reading at a second grade level. She struggled with very basic math skills and no idea how to count money... so I enrolled her in Connections Academy and she learned more in 3 months than in 10 years of public school... and I am thankful to say she was able to graduate last june after only 2 years with Connections Academy... all I can say is try it... you won't be disappointed...
Hi Brian, We are thrilled to hear that we were able to have such a positive impact on your student's education. We hope that she is doing well now that she has graduated! ~Alexis
"If you are looking for a school that will learn you more than a public school, this is the choice for you!. The teacher and staff are so nice!, and they even have courses to give you an opportunity to learn about new material, they even have an early-graduate plan too... I even love this school myself!.
Hi Abbigail, Thank you for leaving your review! Our teachers are the cornerstone of our schools, and it's great to see that their hard work is appreciated. We hope that you and your student continue to love being with ALCA! ~Alexis
We are in Iowa, and have been with Connections Academy for 2 years! Our oldest started as a Kindergartner and is now in 1st Grade. I plan to do this curriculum with our boy/girl twins as well! We love the staff and the teachers here in Iowa! Even if we have questions, frustrations, or are confused about anything, the administration is ready and available to help! Customer Service is always helpful as well. And I love that it is tuition-free, without all the distractions and unnecessary social issues from a traditional brick and mortar school.
I also love the flexibility with our schedule with Connections Academy! This program has also allowed for us to be a part of a Homeschool Co-Op, be more involved in our church and church activities, as well as take part in extra curriculars - my oldest loves Taekwondo!
If you're looking for a creditable, great, schooling at home experience - look no further!
Hi Mollie, We are thrilled to hear that IACA has had such a positive impact on your family! We love to hear that our teachers have made a difference in your student's education and are happy to hear that your family has taken advantage of the flexibility of our program to become more involved in local activities. We hope you continue to have a great experience here! ~Alexis
What an incredible school. We have only known Connections Academy and we have been doing it for 4 years. We are so happy with this school, every year they exceed our expectations. We love that we can be so involved with our children's education and be a part of this school by attending the many fun events they organize every month either in-person or virtually. This school goes above and beyond and we have no doubt to continue our journey with them until the kids go off to College. We couldn't envision any school more dedicated and wholesome. We are very satisfied and very involved not only in our children's education but also in the experience of the school as a whole.
Hi Fabienne, Thank you for taking the time to leave your review! We're glad to hear your family has been taking advantage of our various socialization opportunities! ~Alexis
My daughter has been with ALCA since Kindergarten and it has been such a wonderful experience. We enjoy both her teachers for first grade and Kindergarten and enjoy the field trips and all the pop-up events. The curriculum has been engaging and challenging.
We're so happy to hear that your daughter is doing so well at Alabama Connections Academy, Cass! ~Alexis
Teachers do not actually teach. It's all computerized. They test and quiz on information that they do not even teach. Brick and mortar teachers will actually do test reviews... Connections does not. If your student is self motivated, they may make it. But be prepared for many frustrated nights and tears.
We liked it until this year, when they switched to Edio. Now I have to find a new school for my child, who is in her senior year. Edio is the worst learning system imaginable, which means scrambling to find a new school and go through the entire registration process again. What a terrible ending to what was once a great alternative to public school.
My kids had a hard time in physical public school. They had to deal with bullies, had little to no extra help from teachers in the subjects they needed help with. They came home crying often and unmotivated to get their work done. Ever since we started at Connections Academy I've seen this burst of excitement from them. They love their teachers, there are so many options to receive extra help in their tougher subjects, and not once have I heard about any kids being mean. The field trips are so much fun, and my kids feel comfortable with their schoolwork. They love that they can work at their own pace, and they can lay on the couch with their kitties while they get work done. This has been the best academic decision we have ever made. We've been going through Connections Academy for 2 years, already enrolled for our 3rd year, and we will continue until both of my kids graduate. We LOVE Connections Academy!
Hi Jennifer, We're sorry to hear that your kids had such a difficult experience with their local school, but we are thrilled to hear that they are doing so well with us! ~Alexis
My Son went to brick and mortar school till 8th grade. He was bullied and mistreated and just an all around bad experience. He had trouble focusing and was distracted. That is why we chose Connections Academy on line schooling. Since joining Connections Academy he has excelled tremendously academic and with expressing himself. It has been a great experience for my son and also for my husband and myself. My son has grown and become an adult and is proud of himself as are we his parents. Thank you for this amazing experience. The teachers are the best. My sons teachers have helped him with his self esteem and growth into the wonderful person he is today.
Hi Dawn, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with our school. We never like to hear that a student was being bullied at their previous school, but are glad that we're able to offer a safe learning environment for our students. We hope that your son continues to thrive! ~Alexis
I have had both of my kids in this school for years now and it seems to only get better. The teachers are amazing and always watching out for the kids. The faculty are always looking for innovative ways to make learning and teaching better for everyone. Lastly, the Board makes sure that everyone at the school has the tools to excel in their role with TECCA. Like I said, best school ever!
Thank you for your kind words, Jerry! We hope you continue to have a great experience here! ~Alexis
The teachers do not teach at the level of work that is required for the children. What do these teachers get paid to do? Each course (Math, Science, LA, SS) should have live lesson. The teachers do not aide in teaching the children. I understand on-line school, I get it. However, the system grades the work. The teachers don't really have to be involved with the students. The parents are the teachers. Parents should be involved in their children's education. However, where are the teachers? What part do they really play. Not sure if we will come back next year.
I had a great time here i loved there set up it was easy for me to handle on my own, I had such a great time i wish i could stay in 3rd grade with Mr. Bishop he was super nice and funny, he helped us all learn so much he taught me fractions on multiplication tricks
Hi Ian, we are so happy to hear you loved 3rd grade! It is so helpful to have a teacher like Mr. Bishop who supports you and makes learning fun. We hope to see you next year for 4th grade! ~Kim
My kids love this school. The teachers are very nice and helpful. The teachers explain the classes very good,if the kids need extra support they are ready to help them.We highly recommended this excellent program.
We love to see this, L T! We're thrilled to hear that our teachers have had such a positive impact on our students. Thank you! ~Alexis
I cant believe all these negative reviews. My children are now in 3rd and 5th grade. We love it. The teachers are so dedicated to educating our children. Some have gone above and beyond to teach our kids. No, it isn't easy and takes time. We are talking about the education of our children. The state says 6 hours a day. Some think that is too much! Are you kidding me? All day every day should be about learning. There are NO shortcuts and they shouldn't be expected. My children are way ahead of their public school friends! I am very proud of that.
My wife and I love Conection Academy, since my son studies here. We have time to study other things and go out more, so that he doesn't get up in a bad mood in the morning and eats healthier.
My son learned a lot. We love
Thank you for your review, Marlon! We're glad to hear that you're able to have some schedule flexibility at our school! ~Alexis
I came to Connections Academy after my son had some health issues and I also felt he wasn't progressing at his school. I was nervous when he started but as the school year progressed I noticed a complete change from my son. He was up for class and actually enjoying it. The best part is that you are not alone. The teachers the counselors are always extremely helpful and response times are quicker than I ever got from regular public school! Best decision was coming to Connections
There is nothing we like to hear more than a story about a student who rediscovered the joy of learning.
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week.
