I had a buyer for a car i financed with carmax. When i called to ask how to expidite the process of paying the loan off and getting the title they said to go into the dealer and pay it off with my debit card. Then they could fax the receipt to the finance department and they would rush the title to me the next day. When i called the next day to follow up, they told me they were holding the title for 5 days. Even tho i have a bank statement showing the money being transfered to them. This on top of the car being over priced. Carmax is a huge rip off!
I purchased a Kia Soul last year. A 2015 automatic with appr 95,000 miles.
I had $5000 down payment and wanted a payment of $200. My daughter is disabled so a caris imperative.
We were talked into a car with a $300 payment. We like others cou7ld not afford the extended warranty. Last month the check engine light came on. I took it where I get my oil changed. The oil was muddy, what was left. And the repair will cost appr $1,000. I am already behind on my payments and now I need to get it repaired. And now a 2015 Kia Soul with a lot less miles is listed with an appr payment of less than $150. Do your research or go somewhere else, please!
When it comes to selling your vehicle at CarMax You are Wasting your Time. Their buyers know nothing about buying your vehicles. They don't even under stand that a VIN number is a vehicles finger print. The car's vehicle identification number (VIN) is the identifying code for a SPECIFIC automobile. It does not matter if you have a court order with the wrong model year, here, what matter is the VIN numbers is that both VIN numbers are correct then there's no denying that you have the right unique code. There are better options that will pay better for your vehicle and will certainly treat you the right way. I say don't waster your time selling your vehicles this company.
I had a specific Prius shipped to the Hartford location. I picked this car on their website using only 1 filter, "heated seats." Once in the car, doing a test drive, I asked the guy how to turn on the heated seats. He replied that there weren't any in this car. After the ride, I showed him my phone where it said, "featured items, heated seats." Also a large sticker on the car said heated seats. He said the staff must have entered the car into the system incorrectly. I said I wouldn't have wasted my day off having this specific car shipped here, and could he give me a discount since it didn't have 1 of the 5 featured accessories listed. He had me wait 30 min and came back saying I could have $300 taken off the extended warranty of $2000. It's a Prius! They rarely need maintenance. So no discount, but I can spend $1700 on a warranty I didn't want to begin with! No thanks. I will never return to Carmax.
I have a For Focus that I wanted to trade in for a Ram truck my vehicle was evaluated with having a transmission problem, so I took it to the Capital Ford dealership in Hillsborough to get it diagnosed the mechanic discovered it was the clutch that was slipping they repaired it, it took a month to get the part in, once repaired I discovered the problem was fixed and the clutch no longer slips it doesnt shutter from stop to go all is good I returned to CarMax without notifying them the car had been repaired, waited 30 minutes for an appraisal they returned with the same report they gave it 3 months earlier they just pencil wipped the report checcking all the same boxes poor training at this CarMax
I worked with Carmax in Clearwater, FL for my last purchase. I will say I was overall very pleased with the service. I did order a vehicle with their free delivery to the dealership service. When the car arrived there were very prevalent scratches and scrapes in the front of the vehicle. Obviously I was not happy with that result. The sales person however, I want to say it was Rudy and Trevor helped me out 100%. Rudy immediately pointed the damage out to his manager and I declined that vehicle. They handled that very well. Then Rudy took me through car by car their current inventory. I came across a Nissan that I really liked alot. We made that purchase happen same day and I drove that car off the lot. I am very happy with the vehicle and their professionalism. I did give it four stars I would have given it 5 if it was not for trying to deliver a scratched and fouled up vehicle.
I also have to add one thing. After I purchased the vehicle I had it reviewed by a nissan dealership with a detailed report. Carmax has a 7 day return policy and I wanted to make sure it was not a lemon. The car got all good grades except for the brakes. Car max took the report and replaced my brakes free of charge. They are very plesent to deal with.

Thanks, Art at Carmax.
Carmax is an entity within itself. An effective and efficient way to sell or to buy a vehicle without pressures from pushy Sales Personal! The entire process of obtaining an actual written offer is approx. Thirty minutes or less. Competent Staff (Ontario, Ca)., quick software analysis and an inspection. Simplifies the process. Relaxed environment, large area like arena and a/c give this concept a cool rating!
I have issues every time I try to use the site. It is not user friendly or intuitive and it times out every time I use it forcing me to repeat steps. Leaves me wondering if it's not designed that way to hamper individuals' efforts to post their payments on time? Hmmmm... Or is it just the old technology that's been pieced together as their business model changed over time and they didn't want to create a new, up-to-date system?
I have turned off paper statements multiple times yet they continue to come. The setting isn't displayed with account payment information where most companies place it -- it is buried deep at the bottom of the actual statements page. Mine reflected the correct setting when I last checked yet the paper still comes! And when I saved the item again, no confirmation is received... Guess I'll just start marking the statements as "return to sender" every month.
Finally, there's a need to be a means of sending an email message to Customer Support - not everyone wants to sit on the phone to talk with an individual. Many want to get in, take care of the task at hand and have an audit trail!
Carmax is great and convenient way to buy a car but they have the most incompetent customer service team ever. They will consistently ask for the same information over and over and over. They also state that phone calls are recorded but no one is ever able to verify what you were told in previous calls. As someone who has worked in customer service previously Im confused as to how there is no apparent note taking systems within this department.
I was pleasantly surprised with the service at carmax. They were polite and tried their best to accomodate me with trying to sell my used car. In the end, I was completely satisfied with their offer and in fact, it was more than I had expected. I would recommend them for sure.
Long story short carmax was trying to hold my pay off amount on my vehicle and cashed it yet wouldn't update it and told me it wasn't received everytime I called yet still charged me for the month, nearly impossible to find a higher up over the idiots I kept talking to and thankfully pissed consumer gave me the info needed to get ahold of someone who pulls strings and get my payoff updated In the system. Was literally taken care of in 2 days from the day I reached out through pissed consumer
They're the worst to buy cars from them. The car are junk. They sold me one of the frame damage. Washed out when you buy a car from them also horrible customer service
I had done this before, but when I attempted to trade-in my car, I found that their "competitiveness" had left the barn. Briefly, I was offered almost $5k less than their asking price for the same model with more miles and in no better condition; mine was virtually flawless. I sold it privately one day later for $3k more than their offer.
Over the years, I have bargained hard when purchasing a new car. So when I discovered CarMax I thought I had died and gone to heaven! Since then I have purchased five cars from them and sold two. Their prices are competitive, the cars are well inspected (they won't sell a car that has been in an accident), they have a wide selection and there is no pressure. And best of all, no haggling! I've found that there are great opportunities when buying up-scale cars that are one or two years old. All of them had mileage under 10k and because of early, high depreciation were much cheaper than new; they even had their original warranty. Because I tend to sell before the warranty expires, other than regular maintenance I've had no repair expense. What's not to like.
Man this place low balls cars. Signs everywhere say they can offer lower prices and higher for trades. CarMax said No Haggle of course not they are picking the better price every deal.
If I could give no stars I would. Bought a suv from Frederick carmac. After a year it broke down.the battery was so old.and the damn tire had a plug in it. I bought the extended warranty.im covered for towing and all and every place I call on the repair pal to fix it has no towing service. Then they are telling me it can't get fixed until the 13th of this month. Theybwont give me a rental. I been catching the bus and ubering to work. This makes no sense at all. Pay over ******* for a vehicle and get treated like crap. I will never buy another car from car max again.im ready to go to the news. Because this is ridiculous
Leaks funds over heats broken A/C. I was hospitalized For a broken foot. Two days late and all they said was company policy.
Major Nightmare
Good afternoon Jon,
I have worked with your organization severs times when I was with Intermec and then Honeywell for RFID projects. I have purchased 5 vehicles over the years and my first was at Kennesaw location. My first 4 cars were financed through Wells Fargo and my most recent was through Carmax. It has been a total nightmare and I will never ever but another car with your company! I have been trying to change my due date for the past four months and request a paper invoice with no success. I have spent hours on the phone ever month and getting no resolution! The Supervisor ( Kay Logan) assured me that this will be done. It the SOS I get every month.
It's time to refinanced with another company that gets it and you lost a loyal customer!
John Deemer
P. S I have spent another two hours on the phone to 11/18/2021
We did an online appraisal of our 2020 (Mint condition) G70 Turbo Elite AWD fully-loaded Genesis with only 26k miles and received a low-ball offer of $27,000. We took it to a nearby CarMax to have the price verified and then sent away for the car title as we went on a two-week cruise. Upon return, we went back to CarMax with title in hand and they said they had to appraise the car again. I thought... "great, maybe this time they'll give us a more reasonable offer". Nope! Apparently if you're not ready to accept their offer CarMax has some formula that will depreciate the value of your car by some percent. In our case, it depreciated by $2,000 in less than 3-weeks! I would understand if due to supply and demand, there was a glut of pre-owned 3-yr old Genesis' in perfect condition arrive in the market but No just the opposite. You can't find a luxury vehicle in Indianapolis for under $35k (and you're offering $25k?) that's lower than KBB Black Book value - especially a car that cost me $45k new! I was warned about CarMax but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Stay away. Stay away. Stay away. Deceptive practices at hand.
I am a single parent,I brought a car at carmax so I can attend to wrk so I can pay my bills take my 6 months old to daycare and other kids to school and pick them up.so bing a sing parent I need a vehicle.i have been out of a car sense Saturday I have been reaching out to carmax sense and they have been playing mind games, this morning at 9:20 i missed a call and call back at 9:35 I got a man to speak with and he told me he have a loaner for me to collect today and he will be calling me bk in a couple hours but from then I have been calling and noooooooo one answer, this is a very bad experience my job is on the edge and to my understanding they are spiteful because I am calling too much about the vehicle I should just shout up and dont ask any questions
Answer: The sales people were no pressure and very flexible. They dont throw managers in your face to close deals. It really is more of a take it or leave it scenario.
