If i could give zero stars that is what they would get! I bought a 2019 Mercedes from them for 37k (40 after taxes). Come to find out that the speedometer has been rolled back and also has an active lien on the car and it cannot be registered. I went in and they pretty much said i was crazy and they have started the registration process. I said you haven't and can't be done because of the Lien! They kept disagreeing and giving every excuse in the book and even tried to
Tell me that they had mailed the title and it was delivered. It was someone else on the paper and another car. Again treating me
Like i was stupid! I told them i did not want their piece anymore(that was having issues already and i had spent 500 on inspection). The check
Engine light kept coming on and off amongst other things. They said they would not refund me but i could get a trade offer. They offered 33k and said i could get another car and save the tax money! I found another car and guess what? Another lien! This
Place is a joke and a ripoff! Will never do business with them again or their horrible cars they don't check out. I went straight to another dealership and worked out a "real" car with real warranty. These jokers didn't even know how to hook my
Phone to Bluetooth in the car or the features on it. Was covered in water spots i had to pay ($300) to get off. I will be looking into steps to get my
Money back and leave my reviews everywhere. Run far from this place! Bad cars and incompetent staff!
Think twice before you purchase from CarMax.
I recently purchased a car at CarMax in Ontario for Work and was given a 90day warranty or 4,000 miles whichever comes first. I didn't feel the need of purchasing the extended warranty as the vehicle I was buying seem in almost excellent condition and only 50k miles on it 4 months into buying this car the transmission gives out and CarMax tells me to have an appraisal done on the car offers me $3500 on a car I just bought from them and still owe $******* on they said wish we could do more gave me a number to an auto mechanic and told me they understand and that they were sorry but couldn't do more. I now find myself renting a car while I have it repaired out of my own pocket. Worst deal I've ever done. Highly recommend you to go elsewhere like Caravan or a different dealership good luck.
After we went through the painstaking process of filling out a credit application in order to move forward with the process, we then paid a deposit to secure the car and have it transferred to our local store. We waited patiently for a whole week for the car to arrive, but never heard a word, no call, no email, nothing. I called to inquire, got a "uh-oh" then placed on hold, then was disconnected TWICE. No one tried to call me back, even though they had my name and number pulled up. They wanted to pass the buck and let someone else deal with my issue. Finally, on my third call, and after begging not to be placed on hold, I was informed that "I" had cancelled this order. I DID NOT CANCEL THIS ORDER. As it turned out, the order had been cancelled the very next day, and I've been missing out on good deals for a whole week, all the while CARMAX is holding on to my money, and probably with ZERO intent of ever reaching out to me. Oh, and by the way, THEY confirmed that THEY cancelled the order. Now someone else has already taken the car that we had made a deal and put ink to paper. What a DISGUSTING car sales practice. They won't change, because they don't have to, but I hope someone else can read this and save their hard earned money and time. Buy from someone else, not a business that will cancel your order to flip the car for a higher price behind your back. It was easy to figure out, as the car is still listed online at another location for a higher price than I had agreed to. Confirmed this by a VIN search. DISPICABLE.
If I could give no stars I would. Bought a suv from Frederick carmac. After a year it broke down.the battery was so old.and the damn tire had a plug in it. I bought the extended warranty.im covered for towing and all and every place I call on the repair pal to fix it has no towing service. Then they are telling me it can't get fixed until the 13th of this month. Theybwont give me a rental. I been catching the bus and ubering to work. This makes no sense at all. Pay over ******* for a vehicle and get treated like crap. I will never buy another car from car max again.im ready to go to the news. Because this is ridiculous
CarMax don't accept credit card for down payment for a car purchase, plus they don't provide you with CarFax of the car you want to buy, my advise to you is not to do business with them at all.
Personally I had a bad experience and they wasted my time
Carmax is too big and doesn't care about the individual's needs. Avoid them. Smaller dealers much better.
When it comes to selling your vehicle at CarMax You are Wasting your Time. Their buyers know nothing about buying your vehicles. They don't even under stand that a VIN number is a vehicles finger print. The car's vehicle identification number (VIN) is the identifying code for a SPECIFIC automobile. It does not matter if you have a court order with the wrong model year, here, what matter is the VIN numbers is that both VIN numbers are correct then there's no denying that you have the right unique code. There are better options that will pay better for your vehicle and will certainly treat you the right way. I say don't waster your time selling your vehicles this company.
I was pleasantly surprised with the service at carmax. They were polite and tried their best to accomodate me with trying to sell my used car. In the end, I was completely satisfied with their offer and in fact, it was more than I had expected. I would recommend them for sure.
I needed some money and decided to sell my extra car. Well ended up having to wait 14 days for their cheque to clear as WellsFargo would not confirm clearance due to insufficient funds in their account! Think twice before selling to carmax
My son bought a 2019 dodge charger RT from Carmax in Hickory North Carolina the car was taken to the dealership a month later with a rattle noise come to find out the exhaust system was modified the vehicle had 11,000 miles on it when he purchased. Has ******* on it now. He took it back to a dealership out in Arizona they notated the car has been modified refuse to warranty an issue that he was having with the vehicle based on the modification I presented this matter to Carmax they refused to take care of it based on an exhaust system modification due to the fact that it passes North Carolina admissions but in actuality it is a violation of the EPA And North Carolina statute 20 -128. Carmax refuse to do anything about it I will never buy another vehicle from Carmax and I recommend that people do not buy vehicles from Carmax. The vehicle should still be under warranty but nothing will be covered on the vehicle due to a modification on the exhaust systemThat he did not do I even presented them video of him pulling it off the lot where are you can hear the modification! Very poor Business!
With over ******* miles on my car and the engine light on i knew it was time to buy another car. Going from dealership to dealership is such a hassle especially with covid. So i decided to go online and look. The best place i found was Carmax. I pre qualified so i knew the price range i would be approved for which saves a lot of time not to mention frustration. I chose my car and went to puck it up. The minute i walked in i was greeted and a salesman ushered me to his office space to conclude the deal. Simple and no hassle. I must say that their cars are a little pricey and they push for the extra warranty but all in all i am very satisfied and glad i purchased my car from them. Easy to get financed is definitely a plus too and i put a small down payment which didnt strip me of all my finances.
Major Nightmare
Good afternoon Jon,
I have worked with your organization severs times when I was with Intermec and then Honeywell for RFID projects. I have purchased 5 vehicles over the years and my first was at Kennesaw location. My first 4 cars were financed through Wells Fargo and my most recent was through Carmax. It has been a total nightmare and I will never ever but another car with your company! I have been trying to change my due date for the past four months and request a paper invoice with no success. I have spent hours on the phone ever month and getting no resolution! The Supervisor ( Kay Logan) assured me that this will be done. It the SOS I get every month.
It's time to refinanced with another company that gets it and you lost a loyal customer!

P. S I have spent another two hours on the phone to 11/18/2021
We purchased a truck from the Norcross Carmax. We arranged our own financing with our credit union, and the salesman recommended that we sign up for a carmax loan so we could take the vehicle home that day, and then have our credit union overnight the full payoff. Our credit union sent a check for full payment the following day, and it was received and signed for the next day. About 45 days later, we began getting repeated phone calls to tell us we were late on our payment. It has been 60 days now, and carmax still refuses to apply our payment to our account.
I brought a SUV from carmax less then 5 months ago. The engine went out. And because I did not or could not afford the extended warranty they will NOT help with repairs and basically told me I'm sol and stuck with it. I only had the suv less then 5 months and the engine has gone bad. Do no buy from them. Horrible customer service and they do not care about you once you drive the vehicle off the lot.
Heather garcia and carmax are total rip offs. Location charlotte n. C. indepedence boulavard. Location
I should have ignored the suggestion "you should see what carmax will give you". Been here twice, will never return. I will never waste my time for an appraisal. First car, They offered me I believe it was $11,000 for a meticulous perfect mustang. I sold that same mustang for $19,800. Like an idiot I wasted my time now having them price my replacement vehicle from the mustang. This is an exotic truck that is not affordable by the average vehicle buyer. Once again meticulously maintained, perfect condition, beautiful vehicle. Pristine. Single and only owner. Carmax tried to tell me the vehicle had possibly been in an accident but couldn't prove it. Wow really? Pointed out screws that may have been tightened or touched. Well The owner of the dealer of which I purchased the vehicle brand new from for over $69k wasn't happy to hear that false and inaccurate claim from the carmax minimum wage employee. Flagship Vehicle. Pristine. Carmax is ripping people off buying cars and If they can't sell it on their lot, they will sell it at auction for more money than they paid you. Local Dealers and re sellers go to the carmax auctions to buy the cars from carmax to re sell them at a profit. Who's being ripped off? The poor customer that goes there to sell them their vehicle. Carmax has to pay their land lease for these huge lots and to keep those blue/yellow shirt employees standing around with benefits. Indeed salary info for carmax:
"The average CarMax salary ranges from approximately $25,458 per year for Salesperson to $184,083 per year for Location Manager. Average CarMax hourly pay ranges from approximately $8.00 per hour for Car Sales Executive to $24.25 per hour for Service Consultant".
Benefits, land lease, wages and salaries at carmax = don't waste your time with an appraisal.
I made $13,500 more by selling my 2nd vehicle myself vs giving it away to carmax. First one, $8,800 for a grand total of $22,300! That amount is a brand new car, or even a nice usedcar... $22,300 what a joke I hope carvana continues to take from their pie. Never again.
Last month I needed a car for my college-age daughter.
We spent a few nights searching on Cars.com, Carvana and several other sites. Ultimately, we visited our local CarMax lot. It was a Saturday afternoon and the weather was good, so they were packed with shoppers. So much so, that being as we did not have an appointment we had to wait 45 minutes for a salesperson to free up.
The time was well spent checking out their large selection of cars and SUVs so when the sales person became available, we settled on a list of 3 cars. Unfortunately, due to the volume of shoppers, our test drive for the day was limited to two. As we were still trying to decide on which car to buy, we returned the following day to try our third choice. At no time did we feel the pressure to buy, and the salesperson (Geoff) was both knowledgeable and friendly.
Long story short, We decided on a Hyundai Elantra and after a search of the CarMax website we found the perfect one (2 years old and just 17K miles). CarMax transported the car in for free and after a quick test drive we purchased the car. We provided our own financing and declined an extended warranty, but it made no difference in the service that we received.
All in all, a good experience and at a price lower than Carvana and all of the local dealers that we searched. Basically, they lived up to their commercials.
I worked with Carmax in Clearwater, FL for my last purchase. I will say I was overall very pleased with the service. I did order a vehicle with their free delivery to the dealership service. When the car arrived there were very prevalent scratches and scrapes in the front of the vehicle. Obviously I was not happy with that result. The sales person however, I want to say it was Rudy and Trevor helped me out 100%. Rudy immediately pointed the damage out to his manager and I declined that vehicle. They handled that very well. Then Rudy took me through car by car their current inventory. I came across a Nissan that I really liked alot. We made that purchase happen same day and I drove that car off the lot. I am very happy with the vehicle and their professionalism. I did give it four stars I would have given it 5 if it was not for trying to deliver a scratched and fouled up vehicle.
I also have to add one thing. After I purchased the vehicle I had it reviewed by a nissan dealership with a detailed report. Carmax has a 7 day return policy and I wanted to make sure it was not a lemon. The car got all good grades except for the brakes. Car max took the report and replaced my brakes free of charge. They are very plesent to deal with.
I recently purchase a car from CarMax on Sahara on 2/24. That following Monday 2/26, the check engine light came on. I took the car in to get serviced 2/27, I was told it would be be fixed by the weekend. I was called Friday 3/2 and was told the car parts took longer than expected to come in, so it wouldn't be ready until that Monday. Monday 3/5 I was called and was told that another issue appeared to be wrong with the car, and because I was under the 5 day return policy, seeing that the policy was put on "hold" while the car was being serviced, I had the option of returning the car. I returned the car Tuesday 3/6. The return agreement stated I would have my down payment returned, (which I have not yet received), and that the car loan would be returned to the loan company and that the loan would not appear on my credit report. 3/9, I went to a different dealership and I was not able to get a new car because there was an open auto loan account from the auto loan company through CarMax, even though CarMax stated it would not be... I called CarMax and the loan company American Credit Acceptance (ACA) and was constantly going around in circles with them, calling back and forth, being put on hold for hours, and the loan still appears on my credit. I tried to get a payoff letter saying that the loan was returned and I owe a $0 balance, but I was not able to receive one for some unknown reason. I returned the car 3/6, it is now 3/15 and I have been without a car since I returned the car to CarMax. I have Sickle Cell Disease and Junior Rheumatoid Arthritis, I have doctor appointments to go to, I have to go to the pharmacy to pick up medications, etc... I have been using Lyft/Uber for transportation seeing that I am not able to walk long distances to ride the bus. I am a long-term substitute, I work with pre-k autistic children and I'm a college student. I desperately need a car to get to and from work and to run my errands. CarMax has been no help whatsoever! And they created a giant mess for me! I am highly displeased and irritated.
Bought a car from CarMax in East Haven & they were wonderful! Salesman was respectful, helpful & knowledgeable. Entire process was seamless. The office was clean and everyone was very friendly.
Answer: The sales people were no pressure and very flexible. They dont throw managers in your face to close deals. It really is more of a take it or leave it scenario.
