Do not use this site! They will continually bill your CC forever, even if you cancel. Huge scam!
I like many have a auto billing complaint. When I noticed a "pending" charge to renew for a the next quarter I immediately went online to close my open status then recived an automated email it would be closed the next qtr three months from now. In other words keeping my current $79 renewal. Then I attempted to call and found out they no longer take calls, only automated system. I sent another email requesting someone to call me to address.
I have tried several times to delete my debit card info and the site will not allow that. That should be illegal to retain my card number and not retract upon my request.
My point is if you have an automated website then why not use that automated features to send me an email mail of notification one week in advance of charging me then I can choose to stay or cancel. But obviously that is how they make money.
I too had a bad experience with the sitter we selected. We hired a sitter by the name of Krista V. She worked for us for almost a year picking my children up from school. To my husband and my surprise she was writing on Twitter and Facebook about my children. Needless to say she was promptly fired. Be careful with whom you select!
Hi Stephanie, I apologize you did not have a positive experience with the caregiver you previously hired. We always recommend conducting background checks, asking for references, and searching for reviews. Best wishes on the search for a new caregiver!
What a terrible company/website. After spending $70 to find a nanny, they decided to cancel my membership i'm guessing because i gave a bad review to a nanny that fell asleep on the job. I was just trying to help other parents. Here's what they sent me:
"Unfortunately, the decision to close your account is irreversible. Furthermore, when we terminate an account we are not required to disclose the specific reasons as to why the account was removed. Per our Terms of Use, Care.com reserves the right, among other things and in its sole discretion, to terminate a membership for any reason or no reason, with or without notice."
What kind of company does this... uh sir, we've cancelled your service but we won't tell you why. They have sent me the above canned response 3 times.
Hello Steve,
As you mentioned, the decision to remove anyone without disclosing specific information for closure is a policy that all our members agree to when enrolling. Safety is a top priority of ours, we try create an online community that is safe for all our members. I honestly apologize for the negative experience you had with us but appreciate your understanding and hope for the best in your future endeavors.
MT ORIGINAL POST:
Their dear Rep who has been on here doing damage control said it herself, everyone! To those of you who can't figure out /why / your profiles were taken down, THEY DON'T NEED A REASON.
If someone's just having a bad day, apparently they can take down your profile. Don't like your name? They can take it down. Don't like your schedule? They can take it down. Gender? They can take it down. Race/Religion? They can take it down.
There are no checks and balances in this company. It's clear the wrong people are running things. Though it would help explain why I almost only saw Christian Caucasian caregivers being successful. Something you want to explain, Kristen S?
KRISTEN S's REPLY:
Hello Briana, one precaution we take is to check certain information some members provide us against various databases and other sources for criminal or other inappropriate activity. In addition, our dedicated safety team reviews profiles for suspicious and inappropriate content and investigates job posts, profiles and messages that are flagged by our members as objectionable. While we view these as important initial steps, they are only preliminary checks and do not catch everything; the best safety precautions are the ones you take, which is why we offer several background checks and suggest to always maintain the initial contact within Care.com so we can monitor any suspicious activity. I apologize for the negative experience but we always appreciate your feedback!

THIS IS A COPY AND PASTE ANSWER THAT I HAVE SEEN ON OTHER REVIEWS. ALL THEY CHANGE IS THE NAME.
It appears Kristen S from Care.com is a bot! Honestly, it's not surprising. Very few people can be as pretentious and unhelpful as a bot.
DO NOT USE CARE.COM THIS SITE IS A DEATH SENTENCE FOR YOUR CAREER.
WARN EVERYONE YOU CAN.

I had an account for probably a week Before I was terminated for I don't know what reason. I believe this is a racist website because every picture that I posted of myself did not approved but when my friend used a photo just as the one I had it approved.

I used Care.com one time and I have to say that I am so sorry that I did. I needed help with housekeeping before having a major surgical procedure. My injury prevented me from keeping up with my regular housekeeping chores. I reviewed, screened, interviewed, contacted, and hired someone to help me. Long story, short... this person whom I allowed into my home, ended up stealing from me. I was there the whole time, in and out of the rooms where she worked and she took advantage of the situation and blatantly stole from me. When I reported the incident to Care, they explained that they would investigate. A month later, after not hearing anything from them, I called only to be told that she was no longer listed with them. When I asked if there were other similar complaints, all they would tell me is that I can file a report with the police. I explained that I needed closure and simply wanted to know if others had similar experiences with their employee, needless to say, I was never given a straight answer, but instead received that same canned response. I simply want to warn others about this company, their screening, hiring practices and their poor responses, problem solving, and customer protection and services.
In Mar 2013, I paid for a full year to try & find help in the house. My complaint is with Care.com's administrative when it comes to their fees. After a couple months, we realized we couldn't use their service. I went online to my account and took out the credit card data so as not to be charged for any yearly renewals. I also clicked around & changed whatever was available to not renew anything. March 2014 Care.com charged my credit card $147 without my knowledge. I went online to my account & my credit card info is still deleted, but they showed they charged that same card for the 2nd year. I also noticed after they charged my card for the 2nd year, that NOW they have a way to click and downgrade to a no fee acct & other changes. This option was not available 9 mos back on my acct. I do not trust a company that treats their clients this way. My credit card company is not holding me liable for this charge.
Care.com would be better if it did not allow care givers to terminate their profile and sign up again for the purpose of shaking off bed reviews. I think this is a reckless practice that may lead to harming some family that does not see prior reviews. We trust our children to these providers and some are unreliable. There must be error in safety and providers should be "stuck" with their bad choices they have made.
: ( Dishonest! I thought I was answering an ad online for a nanny, but after several screens, the company asked for money... Look elsewhere. Waste of my time.
Constantly look at the credit card bill you set up with CARE.COM.
I signed up for the basic membership and was told it would be a one month subscription. They never stopped billing me and I didn't realize it until five months later. I wish I had read the reviews before using this service as it seems that others have had the same issue. I know I downgraded to a "basic" membership that said I would no longer be billed. I feel like I have been scammed.
We signed up for the 3 months subscription. The terms do tell you that you will continue to be charged if you don't downgrade or cancel. Fortunately, we found a terrific caregiver through the site and now no longer need the Care.com services. My subscription ended on 5/3 and I forgot to downgrade/cancel. On 5/13, with some online searching, I found Care.com's toll-free number, explained the situation to the rep, who was very friendly and helpful, and per the Refund Policy from their Terms of Use below, she promptly issued a refund for the full 3-month subscription amount. I do think (and I suggested this to the rep), that they should send reminder emails when the subscription is about to renew as I think it would eliminate issues like many have described below. However, I do not understand how some have said that they continued to be charged "for months" without their knowledge. Don't you check your credit card statements? Take some responsibility, here!
8.3 Refund Policy
Except as set forth below, all payments for services/products are non-refundable and there are no refunds or credits for unused or partially used services/products or service/product cancellations. Notwithstanding the foregoing, if you have a paid membership subscription that is automatically renewed, we will refund the most recent charge to your credit card if (i) you cancel your subscription within thirty (30) days after the most recent charge, and (ii) you have not used your subscription during the current renewal period. The refund will apply to the most recent charge only. In addition, Care.com reserves the right to immediately downgrade or cancel your membership after payment of your refund. Care.com does not provide refunds or credits under any other circumstances, unless it determines in its sole discretion that a refund or credit is warranted due to extenuating circumstances, such as a duplicate account.
They had me pay for one month and then started charging me a higher monthly rate. BE CAREFUL that they will automatically charge your card even if you no longer use the service.
They steal $16 from you then you work for free for 5 hours. So they steal your money close your account then you work for free. This company is a scam. It is a work for free and steal your cash scam. You work for free while they get your money and close your account after they bill your credit card $16 what a scam. Check ripoff report.
I signed up for a month plus I paid for a background check. Tried to use it on a potential pet sitter and the person never responded. I tried to contact care.com. They have no contact info. Listed anywhere on their website. I did a Google search and the only contact info. I could find was a 1-800 number that is for a Mitsubishi parts service repair place! Ridiculous! I canceled my membership through their website, but I can say good by to the $95 I just gave them for absolutely nothing!
I created an account, they charged me and cancelled it when I was already closing the deal with my care taker. They didn´t notifiy me at all and wrote me a non sense email saying I wasn´t eligible just because I am out of the zip code area, that shouldn´t be a problem.
Considering I am in a desperate situation to find care for my dogs they still are very unhelpful and rude!
I would like to CAUTION and/or STOP anyone from thinking about using Care. CCom's service. They have a nasty habit of scamming/tricking people into being billed a monthly charge (usually $35.00) untill you realize who and what they are. They use underhanded practices to trick people into becoming obligated in paying for a service or services you might never ever use. And, when you contact them (I spoke with Ervin) you are told they have a strict refund policy of only being able to refund the most recent month's charge, even though you never authorized them to chsrge you. I believe it to be an underhanded form of bait and switch and believe the authorities should be looking into this company. Please do yourself a favor and do not get involved with this company. You will live to regret it!
Great day to all of us consumers that have had problems with care.com would anyone be willing to work with me to file a class action lawsuit against this company please get in touch with me and see what we can do to get this business closed for good.
I am among the rest of these busy parents who signed up for one month and then continued to be charged for months on end unknown to myself. I am very dissatisfied with the response I received which was essentially 'so what'. I used the site only the first month that I signed up and never even logged on again. I find this outrageous to be honest. If someone didn't use the site it should be recognized that they obviously did not understand the subscription policy. And care dot com does nothing to remedy this. Do not sign up with care.com unless they decide to change their policy.
This site is absolutely terrible. They tell parents what they want to hear, at the expense of their product (the caregivers). Nannies are household employees, protected by the FMLA, and yet care.com allows parents to post jobs for less than minimum wage, and doesn't include the requirement to pay overtime in their lowball BS "rate calculator". Stay away from this site. It is pretty much their policy to take money from parents and sitters alike, but if any issue arises, they bear no responsibility. Then why the hell should I pay you?
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
Hello Julie,
As you mentioned, Care.com is an automatically renewing subscription service, which we state twice on our enrollment page. A policy that is convenient for the majority of our members, additionally, we always offer the ability for our members to cancel their subscriptions before their next renewal date. I apologize you went through this negative experience and we definitely appreciate the feedback!
