Acquiring a new home, eventually- or right away- you are going to need some things done, but in an unfamiliar area, it can be challenging to know which contractors to trust, and who does the kind of work you are looking for. I am so glad that I found BuildZoom, it helped me feel more confident that I was evaluating the right installers for an EV charger, who understand and have experience working in my community, with all of the local requirements.
We had no idea about how to find a contractor for our home remodel so I took to Google for answers. Build Zoom was on the list of responses so I gave them a try. They helped us define the project, gave us tips on purchasing materials, then they found 3 contractors in our area to help us with our project. We found a gem of a contractor using them. I recommend build zoom for anyone who needs help with a construction project!
After hiring a contractor on BuildZoom, he took $19,000 of our money and has not finished the job. The workers he did send out did not know how to do the job, we went through 5 fence people and the fence still isn't finished. Went through 2 concert companies and the work they did do was wrong and I will have to have it redone, concert never got laid. The job was to be done in about 60 days we are now on to 4 months. I contacted BuildZoom and all they said was sorry we won't use them anymore. I did a background on the company myself (which I thought BuildZoom would have done) and found out they have filed bankruptcy, have no assets, no back up money, own nothing. I would think BuildZoom would check the Contractors better and would offer we some assistance in recovering my money. I will never use them or recommend them; we have been robbed and taken advantage of and BuildZoom allowed it to happen

Contractors on our website do not pay us a subscription to be a part of our marketplace, they only pay us a referral fee for jobs that they win. We are not a regulator and remain a neutral party in post-hire disputes.
We partner with over 2000 building departments and contractor boards across the US to maintain records of over 3.8 million contractors. Unfortunately it’s not feasible for us to run background checks on all 3.8 million licensed contractors, especially since they are not employed or affiliated directly with BuildZoom. Think of BuildZoom like Yelp but for local contractors — Yelp maintains a large database of Restaurants, we maintain a large database of contractors and offer services to help source local contractors, and a Premium Service that helps compare and review bids & contracts.
If and when we discover that a contractor is conducting themselves in a manner that’s suspect or concerning, we do suspend or ban them from our website. As far as your situation, here are some actions you can take:
- File a formal complaint to your State Attorney General
- Reach out to your State. Gov's Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, where their license is listed and open up a complaint and request for the contractor to be investigated
- Simultaneously, ask for their contractor's bond information (if you don't have it already) to file a formal claim against their bond, which would compensate you for misperformance
- Review the requirements for your State’s Recovery Fund (if they have one)
- If you would like, leave a review on their BuildZoom profile so that others are aware of your experience (we've come to learn that some regulators will visit our site during their own research)

I hired Cody t noon to put in a concrete patio and a concrete sidewalk the patio needed a retaining wall 4 ft high with stone veneer the job went very well I would highly recommend this contractor to anyone.
Had Dana install a new shower stall and a few odd jobs around house. He was accurate, helpful with suggestions and always there when he promised. It is hard to get someone that will respond and be helpful with a job. He was very clean and never left a mess.
I would highly recommend him for any job. He is now going to do a backsplash for my kitchen.

I'm building my condo, and I got a lot of help from BuildZoom. I signed up, little nervous I was, but I received an e-mail asking for my information about the project and they helped me find a list of contractors that could help me. This all came from an actual person as well, answering my e-mails within the day I had questions of. They helped me set everything up, and I am just so happy with all they've done!
I recently used BuildZoom to leave a review of work performed by a roofing/gutter contractor I have used several times over the past two years. I own a business, a customer left me a negative review. There is no way to dispute the claims of the customer. Now I have to get questioned about said review by some customers which makes me look bad and has even cost me some jobs due to it. Not even a chance to defend myself!

This company is HORRID! They are a scam in how they charge you $2k upfront, send a contract, change it, bill your credit card without your knowledge and increase the payments...yep! That's the great service you get (they get your money). They gave us 3 contractors, one never did a bid and the other two were extremely high priced (way outside the norm by $50k) and had no experience with building our project type (tiny home)! Wrong time zones for meetings, outdated info. On FFE report (they must just google Home Depot) and source poor contractors. We paid $7200 for literally nothing--wasted out time with two outrageous bid and no work done...we have had to go back to square one on building after wasting 2 months and thousands with them. Google their lawsuits and see why.

We charge an initial down payment to ensure that property owners are serious about getting work completed, and the price of the down payment differs depending on the cost of the total contract. Before we begin our premium process, we have all clients sign a premium agreement which clearly states an invoice schedule, including a description of what you are paying for. At the beginning of the project, all parties involved agreed to change the SKU of the project, thus also changing the invoice structure. Our team notified all client parties at least 24 hours in advance each time a new invoice was scheduled, as proven by our email history.
In general during the sourcing stage, our team speaks with the property owner to better understand the scope of the project, and from there, reaches out to the best and most relevant contractors in the area to meet with the property owner and submit bids. In your specific case, our team reached out to a total of 7 contractors in your area for your project, 3 of which were interested in continuing the conversation. When our Project Manager reviewed the bids, they were successfully able to reduce the initial bids quite substantially by catching unnecessary expenses, and limiting potential for change orders during construction. For example, you received an initial bid for $292k, and our after our team reviewed and edited it, we sent it back to the contractor and it was reduced by $33k. This is part of the value of BuildZoom's Premium service: Value engineering.
As it relates to your concern about our sourcing process - BuildZoom assists property owners with finding contractors in their local area and act as an owner's rep to help them validate contractors and get through the pre-construction process, however we don’t have our own network of contractors. We partner with over 2000 building departments and contractor license boards across the United States to maintain a database of almost 4 million contractors. Similarly, we receive permit data from city or county building departments. We pull this permit data every day to ensure we have the most updated information for all of our contractors.

I was skeptical at first,being I've wasted time and money on several similar sights. Most of them are scams, make you pay for supposed leads that always back out or never return your messages.Out of 50 leads maybe 3 were legit and most of them do no more than I could do myself for free.Even though I was sure this wouldn't be any different I decided to give it a try,and I'm glad I did. Iis everything all the other one claim to be. It's very user friendly, yet professional.I was in disbelief at the number of quality leads I receive consistently,and you don't have to pay anything unless your Hired for the Job. I Couldn't be happier with Buildzoom and I would strongly recommend it to anyone in the construction business
As a part of the projeft, solar panel has been installed and didn't install the monitoring system. I made so many calls. No respond, excuses... excuses... I would never recomment anyone to go with these guys.

We hired Chaca contractors to do our fascia replacement and patio roof repair. They were here on time and ready to go. They did a fantastic job. And did like 5 days worth of work in 2 days. Best contractors I've ever worked with. I'd rehire them in a heartbeat.

Our experience with Nexxt Home Builders, LLC. has been great! We did have a slow start because of the restrictions of our county, but once they started, the build has been moving right along. The workers have been very neat and are here getting the work done the entire time they are working! I have hired to do 2 jobs for me. The first was to put a railing on the cellar stairs of rhe house I was selling, he completed the project quickly and it came out better than I expected. I hired him again to build a wall and add a door to rooms in the 200 year old farm house, again his attention to detail was perfect, he reused some of the old boards to finish off the door, it looks like it was always there. Keith does excellent work for a very fair price.
