This has been an excellent experience, and I feel like I've been well supported along the way. I've hired plenty of contractors on my own in the past, but this project was throwing me for a loop with how many pieces were involved.
BuildZoom found me several interested contractors and coordinated the communication, while remaining extremely responsive and open for any questions. Even when I got sidetracked and left folks hanging for a couple of weeks, BuildZoom prompted (without being annowing) me to get back on track.
I contacted Strong Tower for 2 bathroom renovations. He gave me an estimate, worked with my days available, showed up on time, completed on time and the final bill was as expected. I strongly recommend Strong Tower for your next renovation.
As someone who was completely new to home renovation projects - large or small - I really appreciated that Sydney and others at BuildZoom took the time to educate me about the many facets of construction / redesign with which I was wholly unfamiliar. They helped me stay on track while also working around my schedule and didn't rush me or push me to make decisions until I felt comfortable. When it became clear that scope of my needs were different than initially anticipated and were more than a builder alone could accommodate, they also found a designer to work with me on the aesthetic of my project. They also facilitated communication with my condo board about certain details of the contract that I didn't have the language to adequately explain. I'm really grateful for all the patience, education, and support they provided.
A few weeks ago, we had a water leak in our ceiling. We contacted W. M. Steele Tradesmen Services to repair it. This company repaired the leak, patched and textured the ceiling, and then painted the entire ceiling to match. It looked as if nothing had ever happened, and the final result was beautiful. The workmanship was first rate, and we experienced communication every step of the way. The company completed the job within a week for a reasonable price. This is the second time we have used this company, and both times the work was excellent. We would recommend W. M. Steele Tradesmen Services in a heartbeat. They are also a registered contractor.
Thank you for the fantastic review! We’re delighted to hear that W. M. Steele Tradesmen Services provided excellent workmanship and communication throughout the repair process. It’s great to know that the ceiling repair, patching, texturing, and painting all met your expectations and were completed within a week at a reasonable price. We truly appreciate your continued trust in our services and your recommendation. If you need any further assistance or have future projects, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Luke Gilbert is a 5-STAR plumber.
He is highly knowledgeable of new and traditional plumbing techniques. He was professional, respect of our home and always, maintained a strong work ethic. We had many issues when we renovated our home and Luke listened to our needs and concerns. Together, we created solutions and resolved every outstanding problem. Luke is the kind of man, who is honest and his word is of great value. He showed up when he said he would. After a careful inspection, He provided a fair quote, so there was no "low-balling." There were no surprises in his billing. He is accurate, precise and a neat skilled plumber.
Luke is now part of our family and will only call Luke for all our plumbing needs.
Thank you, Luke, for getting us through some scary surprise situations, where tears were in order.
You are our hero! Call Luke Gilbert and see for yourself.
After posting a negative review of an unscrupulous contractor, Ambient Construction, which I had the misfortune of dealing with, I received an email from BuildZoom that my review is too vague and they can't post it.
There is nothing "vague" about a contractor who uses unskilled labor, does shoddy work, refuses to accept responsibility for the mess they have created, and disappears.
Clearly, BuildZoom is not there to protect consumers. I would never trust a contractor recommended by BuildZoom.
Hi Anna,
I'm sorry to hear your review wasn't accepted on our platform. If you could kindly email me at customersupport@buildzoom.com with the email address associated with your account, as well as a link to the contractor in question's profile, I would be happy to engage our content integrity team to take a second look at your review. If your review does not meet our content or community guidelines, they will be able to provide insight into how your review may need to be adjusted before it is posted.
I called Build Zoom a while back to get help with a pool install. Rory helped me from start to finish and made sure I was satisfied with my contractors. I was very impressed with his customer service level. When I'm ready for a new build I will definitely call them again
"I have used BuildZoom for several projects to hire subcontractors and I am very happy with the licensed and professional subcontractors I have found. However, it's still important to thoroughly check their background and obtain additional references to ensure that you choose the right contractor for your project."
Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you've had positive experiences with the subcontractors found through BuildZoom. We agree—doing additional checks and gathering references is always a smart step. We're here if you need any further assistance!
If you are a contractor run dont walk away from this site. They use Phishing tactics to find false information about companies only to get you to "Claim your profile" How can this company protect the consumer if they cannot be honest themselves. They have a review about my company never posted anywhere or on their site and refuse to remove. I have asked kindly and sadly it has come to my now having to file complaints with every public private entity I can to protect my own companies image.
Hi Jonathan,
We understand your concern regarding your company's profile on BuildZoom. As for this specific situation, your request has been resolved and the review is no longer on your profile. BuildZoom partners with over 2,000 building departments and contractor license boards across the United States to maintain a database of almost 4 million contractors. Similarly, we receive permit data from city or county building departments.
What Yelp is to restaurants and small businesses, BuildZoom is for contractors and architects. It’s a place where property owners can search our database to find a local contractor, and to leave reviews regarding their experience. They can also contact our Project Consultants if they want help finding a local contractor.
As it goes for you as a contractor, you can claim your BuildZoom profile and clean it up. We understand that with our automated data processing of the building department information (and publicly available data online), there could be missing information or inaccuracies. When a contractor claims their profile, they can make corrections and updates to their information in order to validify it is a real company. Additionally, contractors can dispute any reviews they receive on BuildZoom if they believe the review is falsified - they can do that after they claim their profile, log in to their account, and submit a dispute through the dispute portal.
We do have a review integrity team and we require that the person leaving the review provide contact information and some personal info to verify that it’s a real person leaving the review, and not a malicious character or some sort of bot that’s trying to post erroneous reviews on contractors.
It’s not uncommon to find other contractors with similar or exact name matches as your own company. We capture the unique License ID number provided to us by the license boards to differentiate between contractors.
You can also always contact us at support@buildzoom.com and we’re always happy to help you with anything. It’s equally important to us to service our contractors as it is to service our property owners.
Buildzoom touts itself as a pre-build service that helps you find contractors and arrange all planning for construction. They charged me thousands without even checking if the zoning in my neighborhood would allow for the project I was doing. They did zero research. They even were pushing me to sign a $20k contract with an architect all before verifying if I could even build (after I had already paid a different architect to do a preliminary design study). I am now out thousands for essentially nothing. I never even spoke to someone in my state. When I told them zoning would not allow the build they completely ghosted me. This is a predatory company with no ethics.
Edit: I was pushed to sign a $20k contract AFTER being informed the build could not move forward. No one from this company has ever reached out to me in regards to this. I did call them and was told my concerns were escalated to a manager. Ha!
Hi Jenna,
We rely on architects and professional contractors to conduct these feasibility studies because they are the ultimate authority to determine if something is buildable on your property. These studies need to be thorough and accurate to ensure the integrity of the build is both safe and does not violate any ordinances or laws, which is why we helped you find an architect in your area to perform the analysis. We understand where you're coming from and the frustration with learning that what you're looking to build is having conflicts with zoning in your neighborhood.
When we encounter issues like this, we can work with the architect and the city to find potential solutions for you. Conflicts with zoning does not immediately mean the project is not possible, it just might mean there will need to be changes to the scope of work or what you're looking to do (in most cases).
Our team will be reaching out to you shortly to continue the conversation about your project with the architect.
R&D Energy was excellent and worked hand in hand with Spa Brokers installing our hot tub like pros. I was concerned with an installation date of the day before Thanksgiving, but everyone was incredibly professional and worked together very well and amazingly quickly. We even decided to add an outlet to that side of the house for Christmas lights. I highly recommend R&D Energy
We signed up for the premium service. It was a waste of time and money. Contractors also inflate their price when working through Buildzoom.
Buildzoom introduced us to 3 contractors. Each contractor quoted us around $700-900k to build our home. Buildzoom was supposed to receive a breakdown by line and compare for the construction of our home from each contractor. The bids we received from buildzoom were then inflated to $1.2 to $1.7 million from the same contractors. We never received any line amounts or a justification for this inflated price. Buildzoom charged us $7000 for their services despite giving us no new information and higher costing bids.
Hi Rob,
We can assure you that BuildZoom or the contractors we work with don’t inflate prices. Our Premium team collects and reviews bids that contractors submit thoroughly to ensure they are accurate and well represented.
It’s not uncommon when a contractor does an initial walkthrough of the property, they’ll give an off-hand verbal estimate, however when it comes down to developing the bid and they price out the cost of materials, labor, and subcontractors it ends up being higher than they initially thought.
To clarify our process — the first bids we receive from contractors are usually very high-level and not broken down by line items. We narrow down our choices with the property owner, then go through rounds of revisions with the chosen contractors and that’s when we start to receive bids broken down by lines. In your case specifically, you found and introduced an outside contractor before we had the opportunity to go through iterations.
Although you hired an outside contractor, as part of the Premium service we offered to review their contract before signing to ensure it was well represented, which you agreed to and at no additional cost we conducted a contract review, which is something we don’t typically do if a contractor is found outside of our service.
We’re sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the Premium service and wish you the best with your hire.
We had a great experience with 512 Enterprises - the contractor that BuildZoom referred us to. The contractor planned the project well so there were very few hiccups in the process. They had solutions for everything that came up. 512 also guided us with all our selections giving us low-budget to higher budget choices so we could keep the project within our total budget. Thank you BuildZoom for the partnership you created with 512 Enterprises.
Even with being pretty handy and taking care of a lot of home improvement projects on my own or with friends, we've also been burned by multiple contractors in the past. We stumbled upon BuildZoom and have been thrilled to be able to pay to have them help guide us on a major home renovation project, every step of the way. The team is tremendously helpful and we feel extremely grateful and reassured that we are being looked after and taken care of. With BuildZoom we are confident there is no way we can fall victim to another horrible situation with bad contractors, and for that we are happy to pay for the service fees that are definitely worth the value.
Quality, thorough, fast, and friendly service! Replaced a 25-plus-year-old thermostat. Ordered and installed Honeywell thermostat within a few days. Tested the system and provided a tutorial on how to operate it. I wouldn't think twice about using RIOS Electrician, LLC again.
TNZ exceeded our expectations. It was a pleasure to have Ted working on our property. He was always professional and courteous. His work is exemplary and I really appreciated that he always keeps us advised on his progress, he laid out his timetable and job was finished on time and within budget. Could not be happier, the balcony and railing are beautiful. I would highly recommend Ted and will certainly call again on him again for any future needs.
Thank you for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that TNZ exceeded your expectations and that it was a pleasure to have Ted working on your property. His professionalism, courteousness, and exemplary work are qualities we strive to uphold. We're glad the project was completed on time and within budget, and that you are happy with your new balcony and railing. Your recommendation means a lot to us, and we look forward to assisting you with any future needs.
H Contractors are the company I chose to handle this project. They came in with a reasonable estimate and have stuck within that amount. The work has been fantastic and so have been the follow up each step of the project. Highly recommend this contractor.
BuildZoom staff always answered my questions fully and got back to me quickly. They provided a number of good contractors, and I was very pleased with the one I selected. BuildZoom gave me confidence every step of the way.
I am a contractor in the Bay Area, and used Buildzoom many of times. They have a great system that will find a reliable licensed contractor. The background work they do on all business they recommend to homeowners is second to none. They have made the process of connecting with a client very smooth. I really appreciate the work they do and love working with them. I highly recommend Buildzoom!
My wife and I did a kitchen remodel on our home in Michigan and BuildZoom's Premium service was the perfect fit for us. From start to finish we worked with BuildZoom's project management team and they were nothing short of excellent. The process was smooth and they were very accessible every step of the way. We are so happy with the finished product and will surely be back for our next home endeavors!
