Some (but by no means all) of the programmes are to my taste. However the format is just terrible. It is slow and difficult to use. For instance, if you watch one episode of a programme then switch off, it will direct you to the first episode of that programme rather than the episode after the one previously watched. The very worst thing about Britbox is that the programmes are constantly reloading, often for more than a minute and with just a few seconds of programme in between. When I rang to complain I was fobbed off with suggestions it was my equipment - the same equipment which was receiving Netflix perfectly. I shall cancel.
They charged my card $699. I've never had this kind of screw up with Amazon or any other company, ever.
Turned out for the best as I cancelled my subscription while trying to iron out their mistake. Really wasn't worth the $6.99 anyway……
You can't redeem a gift without having a credit card. And it doesn't say this in their gift terms. Tried to update an account via email and received a reply that was flippant. Tried calling and was first called rude by the woman who answered because I dared ask if the person emailing me trying to be funny and then left on hold then hung up on. Called back and was told basically it was my bad luck to receive a gift that requires a credit card to redeem and that the person purchasing it should have read the How to redeem page and not the actual gift card terms. No wonder they dont give you their names when you call.
Britbox does not work with Roku at all! Shows never load more than 1 minute and then the channel totally shuts down, taking you back to the Roku home screen. Multiple calls to customer service provided absolutely NO help, although I was told that they get a lot of calls like mine - which is just proof that the service is subpar.
In August 2018 I started a seven day trial and cancelled the following week. Firs attempt to log in the system said invalid credentials. Customer service contacted to resolve.
I did expect to be billed for the month of August; but was billed twice. Disputed the second charge with Discover thinking it was an honest mistake.
Fast forward to September 7th Discover sends me the following text message:
Discover Card: Transaction of $6.99 at BRITBOX was made on September 07,2018. Text HELP for info, STOP to quit.
Yes. My card was billed again. Below screenshot is their response to my inquiry. You'll see they claim there are not one, but three accounts associated with my credit card? Um... NO. I sent them a reply letting them know the other two accounts do no belong to me and the charge(s) in question should be reversed at once.
I am following up with Discover as well.
If everyone says it's crashed and they don't care.
I won't touch with a dorky stick either...
For a start I can get it on my Main Sony Android Smart TV. So if it crashes and burns, I won't be getting my money back.
It looks like it changed hands to someone very clumsy in every way, that doesn't care about their customers. The only reply I've seen is contact their site with out further comment...
Hick ups over hick ups. Every show is interrupted after a few seconds. Not a joy to watch. I get irritated after a while and quit.
There is so much complaint about BritBox and they have not fixed anything. No updates ever.
I'd love to watch some of the British comedies that I used to love but all I get is stuttering and a green screen. I have to reboot almost every episode. I haven't had any problems with streaming either crave or prime, so it's definitely not an issue on my end. I really wish I hadn't paid for a full year of this crap service
No problems at all with the content, knew exactly what I was getting before I signed up.
What I wasn't expecting was not being able to resume where I left off - as I can with Amazon Prime. Or even being able to select say episode 3 of series 4, without having to forward wind through episodes 1 and 2 first.
Hopefully they'll get a grip soon and sort out this issue.
Seriously why is Britbox so slow and primitive? Don't tell me you can't develop a better interface than this. If Acorn were any better I'd switch but it's just as bad. Is this a British issue? Is it somehow related to Brexit? Please bring this thing up to 21st century user interface standards before I lose it and throw my remote through the tv.
Don't think that by paying your monthly fee, you'll get all the advertised programs for free!
When you do complain to Amazon Prime Video,
Their answer is " Well it's not a service of Amazon but rather the BBC."
This service is absolutely abysmal. Laggy and bug ridden app, lack of shows, missing some real classics. The layout is terrible which takes some getting used to. Pointless advertising of the Britbox logo before each episode of a show. Honestly guys, don't waste your money. BBC and ITV have taken a big L on this one.
This used to be a great company and it has some great content. However the last few months I've been having subscription problems every month RIGHT after the bill is paid. Although I can watch on my devices, I can't watch on tv. Says I need to subscribe even though I have an active account. I don't understand how they can't see that and fix the problem. Customer service is completely useless. They send the same email without doing anything. This is my last straw. I am canceling if they can't resolve in a timely manner. Be aware of this company.
As a British TV enthusiast, I was excited when Britbox launched. Imagine my disappointment after signing up for a monthly subscription fee only to get to Season 4 of 'Waking the Dead' and then hitting a paywall. If I want to watch any of the remaining seasons, it will cost me an extra $20 a season in addition to my monthly subscription. I'm leery now about investing anymore of my time in this service, getting to know and love the characters of other series, only to be held hostage if I want to continue watching. Steer clear unless you enjoy getting ripped off.
I can't watch BritBox on our TV without going through several hoops and it is way to much of a hassle. The content is just not worth it. As I found out, you can cancel the service, but their is no pro-rated refund available. With today's technology, it shouldn't be that difficult to stream this service. Buyer beware, I wish I had been smarter on this deal.
I'm enjoying the content but the app is somewhat buggy. It fails most o& the time to keep track of what has been watched so I have to keep going back to search for the programme I was watching. There are glaring omissions in the content. Many programmes are not yet available,
Britbox's customer service is terrible. I decided I no longer wanted the service and canceled, receiving a cancellation confirmation email. They continued to bill my card for three months past the cancellation date. I have called four times and have yet to get connected with a service rep. Here's what Britbox needs to do. Give customers a cancellation confirmation number and stop their practice of ignoring cancellation requests. If they're still involved with Amazon, then Amazon should cut them loose.
Horrible site, basic functionality missing, customer support non-responsive.
1. No search engine (probably unique on the world wide web)
2. Close captioning missing for some movies
3. Close captioning not in sync with the movie
4. Random episodes from various series missing
I looked forward to Britbox and am disappointed in how poor their technology is. Navigating the site, finding the shows and then paging through season after season until I get to the current episode is a constant frustration! Try checking out Amazon Prime, whose site is very used friendly.
There is a lot of good content on Britbox but the lack of a dedicated app on game consoles and streaming sticks as well as an inability to stream from your phone or tablet to make up for this makes the service feel very incomplete. The service also feels a bit overpriced as for less than double the price you can get a months subscription of Netflix or Amazon Prime which give you much more for your money. Purely being an ad free archive of British TV makes Britbox a long way off being a potential Netflix competitor as the lack of new and original content and a lack of key features will mean it will likely only appeal to a very small audience who probably just want to watch one or two shows they haven't seen in a long time. If the missing features I mentioned get added and they reduce the price then I might change my review to 4 stars because there are a lot of good shows on here but the service doesn't feel ready for a full release.
Britbox has a rating of 1.6 stars from 322 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Britbox most frequently mention customer service, free trial and credit card. Britbox ranks 198th among Streaming Movies sites.
