I started bidding at the end of December and if I had read these reviews probably never would have.
I am NOT an employee but I have had some luck with the site. You have to be careful that you don't get caught up in a war with someone and starting getting crazy.
I bought a 25 bid pack and won $100 visa and then a $100 Best Buy card. I have only won a few items since then but I did get the items the other day (two + weeks later) so it wasn't a scam like I thought it might be.
Don't waste bids buying bid packs and spending more than you win! People seem to get crazy on these kinds of sites so if you see it happening stop bidding on that item. Good luck.
Since I used this site back in October of 1012, I still have not received my knives. I have talked to Nick, Kip and some bit-- that claimed she owns the company. Today I got fed up and told them to just keep my money. How could you go to work and scam people day after day and really, I mean really do you feel good about yourself. I won some gift cards being a newby, and they arrived months later. The cards and knives were for Christmas presents, never to be seen before that date. I am a cancer patient and this seemed to be a good way to get my gifts, as I do not drive. SCAM... SCAM... SCAM... and yes I do recognize the same bidders winning more than they should, and spending WAY more than they should. If I would have done my due diligence, I would not be in this situation. Hopefully this will help some of you that read this to... STAY AWAY!
I love this site! I buy a 50 bid pack and win something every time, last night I won a Wal-Mart $100 Gift card for 10 bids plus 2.38 and shipping of $5.99. The next 40 bids were unsuccessful in winning the next auction because I ran out. The trick is to think of times when the site will be the slowest (i. E. during the superbowl) and let the crazy bidders bid up the item and I only bid when the screen says going, GONE right on the GONE I bid. This site is not for everyone, clearly. If you are not a gambler you may want to avoid this site.
Don't waste your time or money. I didn't realize that you had to pre pay for bids until after I signed on. Now I can not find a link to cancel the account. I have looked everywhere on the site. There is no site search and no opt out. I didn't use it at all and won't bother to ever. It has to be the worst auction site out there. Avoid it like the plague!
I purchased some bids and bid on a gift card almost a month ago. I have not received the gift card yet. I have tried to contact Bidcactus.com several times and keep getting some lame excuse. These guys are shady as it gets.
I agree that you need to have reasonable expectations for the site; Bidcactus suggests watching for a while before you try bidding, and in fairness, every learning curve involves mistakes, which as my uncle always said "cost time, pain, money, or some combination of the three." I am going to watch again to see if a "shadow entity" is really bidding "500 times" on a $50 gift card, but I don't see why an auction site would risk losing credibility when it is going to make money legitimately. Aside from that possibility, I see potential to win a few things that are worth the cash. If I were to make one criticism, though, it would be "why do we have to pay. 75 to bid? Couldn't it be. 10 for penny auctions, and maybe. 20 or. 25 for the. 10 auctions...? And is Bidcactus a CITI company? I get a CITI(bank) favicon in my address bar when I'm there. Who can tell me this?
As with all new services, educating consumers and arming them with appropriate expectations is key. Much of the criticism penny auctions receive stems from the fact that few people win and everyone expects to get a great deal without much effort. Noone can fault the auction sites for channeling these human needs. It's called business. It is up to consumers to educate themselves by doing their homework, such as checking out review sites like http://www.pennyauctionguide.com. It's just like everything in life: luck favors the prepared.
I personally think its a waste of your time. You cant just put the highest amount that youre willing to go up to unless you want to keep buying bid pack bundles and sit and wait and wait and wait while there is always going to be someone or something on the other end clicking away that keeps extending the time. And the worst part is that it isnt a regular auction site like Ebay where you go search for speakers or lamp and bid. This stupid site determines what is up for bid. I personally have no interest wasting my nights away sitting there looking at gift cards and hoping they will put up something nice that you would want.
This site is a SCAM! They have backend operators constantly jacking up the price and you run out of bids. They're simply taking up $10-15 from atleast a 100 people bidding on hot items and still nobody really gets the item!
This company is a scam.
Simply put $99 bid pack buys you 270 bids. That is 2.7 bids for $1 or 37cents a bid. Items such as a $100 amex card on bid cactus goes for $20 (100 one cent bids * 20 = 2000 bids. 2000 bids *. 37 cents a bid is = $740). So in effect all the bidders combined are paying 7.5 times the price of the item being bid on!
To add to this they will charge you shipping for the product. The shipping is usually 2-3 weeks from the date of purchase (I suspect that they use the cash flow to buy the product at market rate and send it to you). In my case they are 4 weeks past the shipping date and I still don't have my gift cards! Stay away from this company. You never know if there are robot bidders jacking up the price
A legitimate auction or auction site does not charge to bid and allows you to bid an amount that you choose. When I looked at the website I was immediately turned off by having to pay to bid and the fact that bids only raise the price a maximum of 1 to 10 cents. It becomes obvious that the site makes most of its money via the bid charges.
This is a fraud site. Like others i also got a reply saying that they won in bidcactus and sold for higher price. I haven't seen any reviews about this site. I registered and won few auctions and paid the money, they didn't send the product, when i sent the mail they didn't even reply. Worst auction site
I know I'm in the minority here, but I love this site. I got several gift cards for only a couple of bids each. $50 Visa final price. 44, and $50 Best Buy final price. 46. And I didn't bid but a few times each. For the 18.50 I got $100 in cards. Not bad I'd say.
It's interesting, if you read all the "positive" reviews you'll notice they have the same linguistic pattern, the same wording, etc. Notice how they say "bid responsibly", etc. etc., they all say that. Well if a company is going to have bots to do bidding, to up the pricing, of course they're going to pay their people to write positive reviews too.
If it looks too good to be true, then it is, and bidcactus looks too good to be true. You try to tell me how it makes sense to pay more for a gift card than the actual dollar amount and from everyone I've spoken to that's used this site, that's exactly what happens.
This site is BS, don't do it.
I have a proof that bidcactus is a scam. I noticed that mostly items such as Pizza Hut $10 card has an automated user setup with recurring bid counter. I placed about 40 bids on a $10 card that still had few hours to end. Can you imagine someone that will put 50+ bids counter in advance on a $10 card that is still to end in few hours. This practice was same for the other gift cards as well. Atleast one user is a system user in most of their auctions and you can literally never beat it because your bids are numbered. Good question is that why I used so many bids on one item and the answer is that I got those bids for free and wanted to test the bidcactus reality. I can swear that it is a SCAM, SCAM and only SCAM.
What they don't tell is that every time you bid the auction is extended for 10 more seconds. They also don't tell you that the bidding history only shows the last ten bids so that you think the bidders had an easy and cheap win. They should be up
I felt ripped off and cheated by bidcactus.com. They put fake ads on craigslist to trick you to go to their site. After spending thousands on their site, all items I won such as iPad, iPhone, etc. I never received them.
I called Customer Support and emailed them many times and all they said was sorry for the delay but they don't know when they will ship the won items out. After so many times, they still don't know. Major Scam.
I will report them to BBB, the media, Washington DC, General Attorney and Craigslist.
Please stay away from this website and spread the words so less people get scammed. As you read online, thousands of people are scammed by BidCactus.com
Just received this email from seller on Craigslist...
"Someone just bought this from me, but I can tell you where I got it from.
I just picked up 3 of these from http://www.bidforsell.com/ and I resold them on here for some extra money.
The trick is to watch for bidding to slow down and then put in a bid. That's what I do and I win all the time.
Best Regards
Robert Mugabe"

Got duped by this Scam while searching for a Washer Dryer set on Craigslist. Upon inquiry, this is what I received from Katy Taylor (*******@yahoo.com)...
"Hey Someone just bought this from me, but I can tell you where I got it from.
I just got 4 of these from here pennybcactus.com and I resold them for some extra money.
The trick is to watch for bidding to slow down and then jump in. That's what I do and I win all the time.
All the best
Katy"
Upon "signing up," my credit card was charged $49.00 for bids. I never approved a purchase, but was charged after entering credit card information which was led to make the customer believe it was for a "on-file" purpose.
Here is my question: Has anyone attempted to dispute this charge with their credit card company? I think I am going to attempt that. Just curious if anyone else had and what the results were?
Don't bother trying to contact these guys by phone when you haven't received your auction winnings after waiting two months. Apparently, 2pm on a Friday afternoon doesn't fall into their business hours of Monday-Friday 9am-5pm EST.
Answer: I am so very grateful that before I sumitted by credit card for final payment to purchase 25 bids on Bidcactus.com that I had to be someplace and was running late. While driving home I thought that perhaps I was missing something because it seemed too easy. I had watched BidCactus for two days and was dying to join and bid. I held back and decided to google bidcactus reviews and found a ton of negative information that convinces me this is a scam and in between I found only a few posters who had as they put it "figured out the game" More power to them. I literally check on line shops, auctions scams etc and cannot believe I almost joined. Thank you everyone for taking the time to post. I am also surprised at the dates of the beginning of these reviews--I find it hard to believer that MyPoints is still involved and that BidCactus is still doing business. I am out of there.
BidCactus has a rating of 1.4 stars from 193 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with BidCactus most frequently mention extra money, gift card and penny auctions. BidCactus ranks 112th among Penny Auction sites.
