“Policies Make it Impossible to Remove Personal Data”

Ann W.

Horrible experience after filling out a form on their site trying to find out how much mortgage I'd qualify for. In the days following, my phone blew up with dozens of calls from realtors. After a week or so, they seemed to give up, Then the cycle started again, only this time all the realtors had heavy accents. When I contacted the company to ask that they delete my personal information from their databases, I was told I would need to verify my identity and answer a series of questions in a phone call before they could do that. They use info that you have given them on your original application (months prior) to quizz you, and if you cannot answer their questions exactly (what is the zip code of the property you were viewing the day you filled out the form), they can refuse your request and send you a legal statute to explain why doing so is legal. I have made similar "opt out" requests to dozens of companies over the years, and almost all of those requests have been honored with minimum fuss or inconvenience via email. Usually within 24 to 48 hours. Over a six week period, in spite of a lengthy phone call interview, plus dozens of emails, better.com has yet to remove my data and tells me they now require another phone call. IMO, their policies are designed for people to just give up (and most will). They claim they do not sell personal data, so why would their policies make removing personal data next to impossible? They must have something to gain by keeping it. I should have checked with the Better Business Bureau before filling out a form on their site. Plenty of complaints.

We went online on September 30th, 2019 to find another Mortgage Company because our Mortgage company Specialized Loan Servicing has been driving us crazy for 1year 1/2. They brought our monthly payment up while we had a surplus and always some problems with them. We went online and found Better.com known as Better Mortgage company or Money Source. We explained to them the reason we are refinancing is that we don't want to deal with Specialized Loan Servicing any more. They assured us the will take care of us. Instead, what they did the went behind us and sold the loan to the same Specialized loan servicing we told them we don't want to deal with anymore. They charged us over $6100 closing fee and we found later in a letter we were going back to the same Specialized Loan Servicing we told them we don't want to deal with them. We want our money back and they are the worst of the worst. I want the public to be aware of that company. After we found out and challenge them the both went on our credit report and falsely closing date, remove inquiries, change addresses to make it look like that was not Specialized Loan servicing. Today we are still with Specialized Loan Servicing. How can we pay that much money to go back to the same company? We have been busy due to a family emergency but today the emergency is over and we will continue after them to return our closing cost as soon as possible. Please, customers, stay away from them!
