“Great Cart!”

Bob R.
6/11/23

Bought a Cater Pro catering cart. I don't like to call it a hot dog cart, because it really is much more than your run of the mill hot dog cart. It is so easy to work, and can do soooo many different things, that it puts you head and shoulders above other carts. One person can do a tremendous amount of service with this baby. I have gone head to head with full size catering trucks, and blown their doors off. I just wish I had bought it waaaay earlier!

“And dependable company”

Moshe Y.
7/28/21

I used their finance company to purchase for a $11,000 and will be paying back $19,000 in return. They said it would take 4 to 6 week to build it and send it to me. It took them 9 weeks before I receive the cart. Now that I gotten the cart. The water heater is busted up. And I can seem to get anyone to give me answers. Bless the poor lady heart who works in the office. She tried her best to help me. But the other department is very very slow to get back at me.

I bought a big dog cart that's supposed to be stainless steel has a sticker inside it says made in China he says he makes them here the splash guard that he charge you a hundred and some dollars for her supposed to be saying still but it's Chinese stainless steel so it rust the sinks are supposed to be staying still but they rest Chinese junk all your cooking pans are made in China and they will rust as soon as you use them Chinese junk Chinese still does not pass health inspection if they catch it you're not by this card any of carts and they're all junk Chinese steel. The stuff of my cart started rusting inside of a garage never used also the car is put together cheaply your cooler that's on it is a cooler that looks like it came from the dollar store and they ripped the lid off and glued it in it is not stainless steel tell you the truth I don't think it's worth over $1,000

Tip for consumers:
Stay away from ben'scarts.com

I just bought a Big Dog Cart from Ben. Total piece of junk. It is built crooked. If I pull the cart over 45 mph, the bread box doors fall into the bread box. When I put them back, they will not slide. The wiring is spliced together with black electrical tape. The compartment door to the gas bottle, I had to pry open with a butter knife. The door hit me in the eye causing me to get cut and have a black eye. The cart shakes back and forth when pulling. The edges of the cart are really sharp. I have emailed and called the company multiple times wanting to resolve these issues with no luck. They will not return or even accept my phone calls. I have been ripped off for $5500, which is everything I had saved to start a new beginning. I am going to take that 16 hour round trip drive back to Tennessee and I am going to take him to court.

Tip for consumers:
Don't buy a Ben's Cart

I paid almost $12,000 for a Cater Pro and the cart has not been operational for 1 day since I purchased it over 1 month ago. Dealing with Bens's Carts was a HUGE mistake. Dont, mistake all their internet marketing and down-home southern schtick as anything but an attempt to separate you from your money. Cheap, cheap construction. Panels falling off on the drive home! 1 or 2 screws in the sheet metal where there should be 4. On day one there was an explosion and the cart caught on fire because the griddle connection was counter-threaded. Once Ben sells you the cart he is non-existent. He will not return calls or emails. The wheel was not designed for the weight of the cart and kept going flat so I had to rock the cart to get it rolling on a square wheel. The hot water heater has never functioned and the battery died after using it for a couple of minutes. Their one-year warranty consists of them giving you instructions on how to disassemble the cart and put in new parts to replace the brand-new parts that are defective, They canceled my membership in the Facebook group Vendors United because I tried to warn new people not to purchase their carts from Bens Carts. If anyone else has gotten ripped off like me please let me know-I would like to participate in a lawsuit so that this rip-off does not happen to them. They refer to themselves as "The Hot Dog Mafia" I should have known better, run away from this company. If I could have left no stars I would.

Tip for consumers:
They are a complete rip-off and I would never purchase from them. If you are looking for a food cart, buy local so that if there are any issues you can bring it back to get fixed. RUN from this product because it is such shoddy construction, You will be trying to fix a lemon and it's not worth it. Don't be fooled by all their marketing. They are not members of the BBB. There are no reviews on Google, they make it impossible to leave a review on their website. Looking for out-of-town suckers.

Benscarts.com is an amazing website! I had just lost my job and couldnt figure out what to do. But then a friend of mine told me about them and the world of information that they provide. I got in touch with the people there and they helped me in every aspect of setting up my own hot dog stand! I even bought my own hot dog cart at a very competitive from the website and got the delivery without a single hitch! Thanks to Ben and his team I am back up on my feet again.

Purchased a hot water heater 9/2022 the one online at hotdogstore.com (Ben's) cost $197 and is totally different than I received, I contacted Keith (one that made the video of heater) and he's a smart $#*! I received a silver cheap metal heater that I am having trouble finding fittings/parts for. I sent pics to the smart $#*! to show him but I was brushed off. I also emailed Ben and never heard a word from that con artist / &-#+ google his name. I do not recommend this so called company. Duggs Dogg's also made a video of the heater shown online that they advertise at hotdogstore.com so I thought I was safe from scam but Nope! I received a silver metal piece of crap. False advertising! And it sure looks like several slingers have distant themselves from said company too. Fuvm!

Tip for consumers:
False advertising. Received different than what I purchased online.

My husband and I purchased the cash cow through Benscarts.com. The gentleman we spoke to was not as attentive to us as customers and a tad rude. The cash cow is quite basic and lacks storage space and also has no insulation from the heat. The top gets so hot you can't set anything down without it burning/melting. The quality of the cart was also lacking good craftsmanship. The interior shelves were over greased, the sink dividers were not glued down, the front wheel was so small the tread tore off within the first 3 weeks and bent and had to be replaced, and due to under greasing, we have had to replace the left wheel kit on the cart because it broke. I'm quite appalled we gave our business to a company that does not care enough to ensure that we received a good product. Thank you, but no thank you, never again.

I bought a Cater Pro 3 years ago. I bought it during the off season and scored a pretty darn good deal. Here is my no B.S. Review.
1. I looked at multiple carts in use by different manufacturers to see what was out there. Are there better made carts? Absolutely. BUT and this is important! Ben's carts are not sold or advertised nor is it implied that they are the best cart out there. They are advertised as the best cart for the money. I would wager many people are buying them because of the lower prices.
2. I went to the Health Dept. prior to purchase. They looked at pictures, reviewed schematics and gave conditional approval. I knew what I needed to make them happy and pass inspection.
3. I secured my own financing. I did look into the what was offered on the website. This is a third party company, not the cart company. It offers a means to an end if you have no other options. After I read what they offered, costs etc. I chose not to go down that road. They were very upfront with the end cost.
4. I received my cart in the time frame promised. It was packaged very well, with no shipping damage when it arrived.
5. The cart was pretty much what I expected based on the price and looking at other carts.
A. Fit and fitment was so-so.
There were sharp corners: I sanded them down.
Not enough pop rivets in the panels for my liking: I installed more.
Steam table openings openings were too snug: Deadblow hammer and a block of wood fixed that.
You get the idea. If I bought a premium cart I would have been mad. You can't buy a tool for a Harbor
Freight price and expect Snap On quality,
6. All stainless steel body panels. They are from China. I haven't spent much time looking so I don't know if you can even buy US made anymore. If you have had anything to do with commercial HVAC, restaurant equipment etc., you know that15 years ago or more, stainless from China started being the predominate source used. Their stainless will rust. You can use stainless cleaners that will help coat the metal and slow it down but, it is the reality of source of origin. I chose to wrap my cart to avoid this issue.
7. Pans are aluminum from China. They are NSF certified. They will not rust. They will stain and hold stains from things that do rust. I have replaced them with stainless steel pans because that is my preference.
8. Sinks are stainless steel from China. They will rust if they are exposed to moisture. Chinese stainless rusts. If you choose the 4 sinks so you can wash dishes and have a hand wash station, you have not done your due diligence with your health department. They are too small for more than decoration.
9. Equipment is as I expected for the money. The grill is adequate but nothing beyond that. Given the nature of the business it needs to be replaced just for appearance seasonally. Griddle works great but it is a steel plate so it does need attention. Burners for the steam table are cast iron and put out an incredible amount of heat. But cast iron doesn't last forever.
10. My cooler is a Coleman 3 day cooler. It is not meant for anything other than keeping some drinks cold. Would a Yeti be better? I don't think so. You only operate a few hours at a time for the most part. Most health departments won't let you keep food in it, so why add 400 bucks to the build? I use it for storage myself.
11. Ben is the face of the operation. Keith runs the shop. Ben will readily admit that he knows Jack about the nuts and bolts of the back of the business. Ben is however a wealth of information about the business of vending to the public. That is his forte.
12. I have interacted with Keith on several occasions. Keith is an engineer. If you haven't dealt with engineers, you don't know what I mean. He is very smart and knows his stuff. He is also incredibly busy. He will respond to your issues. It just may take a bit. But, he is an engineer. He thinks and talks like one. He is not being rude when he answers your questions. It is likely something he has answered hundreds of times and isn't going to elaborate.
13. I have not dealt with customer service, so I can't comment on them.

Summary:
Are these the best carts on the market? No. I think they fit a price point. But, spending more will not mean you will not have issues.
Do they use parts from China? Yes. I would guess all of the cart makers do.
Will you need to tweak and fix a few things? Maybe not the first time you assemble it. But I guarantee you will if you use it often and especially if you tow it down the road. It is maintenance and the nature of the beast. Also do yourself a favor and research towing things with tiny tires down the road, it will save you some frustration.
These carts are a low cost (relative to a food truck) entry into mobile food service. If you do not perform your due diligence starting with the health department and working out from there, you are going to hit barriers. These carts are not a high end luxury piece of equipment. They meet a price point that may still seem expensive but are in line with other manufacturers at this market level. If you want premium, pay the premium price. These are meant to provide a starting point for people to work from. It is still a tool that needs taken care of. It will have issues. There is a learning curve to all of it. After 5 years in the food business I know that expectations (excitement) are not always in line with reality.
