If I could give negative stars I would. I have tried to get a working phone for weeks now and it's going to be my 3rd phone with Assurance wireless that has never worked & they want to know my phone to call me at. Is that a joke? They won't send a new phone they are used phones with zero ram which means they don't work good when they are new much less used. I have a appointment coming up & it's a zoom appointment that I get a before the appointment to get the meeting ID number but they won't ship it overnight to make up for their mistake. The worst thing is when they find out there's a problem they won't respond to you at all. So it's clear I can only message them though Twitter without a phone. Save yourself time and misery get a service anywhere but Assurance wireless
Full on horrible experience. Got the phone and tried after it was activated and approved for EBB after may 12th. I read that these phone were pre installed with malware from China. I called and said I would like to use my own phone. They said only can use phone they sent and even couldn't buy one from them? So I transferred to SafeLink they mailed me sim and it works with my phone. My phone was still on and activated with assurance even though my lifeline was up and running and active with SafeLink. I called no less the 20 times. They would say my phone was off but my benefits is active with them fro ebb benefit and couldn't be removed are transferred. My unlimited data was having trouble at SafeLink. I called over and over again. They would say my phone off. But my phone was on and even got a call from bill collecter and prison asking for another persons name?. I reported to lifeline universal and made a formal complaint to FCC. They were shocked about the malware being pre installed and they still were using the same phones they suggest I report to a even higher unites states whistleblower company. I did get a call from assurance saying they are following up from FCC complaints. The last said my phone was still active because I didn't take my phone number with me to SafeLink? Crazy? I told her what customer service person said I could move my emergency broad band benefit. She denied that was true and said she apologized I asked about pre installed malware she just says oh we send then another phone. Of same model and company? Anyway she finally disconnected so now my phone is not answering. Finally it was a nightmare and hours no hours of calling there call center with Lange barriers. My account with SafeLink still shows pending emergency broad band data benefit. Because the issue never was resolved with transferring it to them from assurance. Even now ……
I was supposed to get a new phone, mine was not working and told I was getting an upgrade, this is the middle of may, a phone was sent out, to my old address even after they went over my address 3 times, and I have lived in my new place 4 years, So I called and they were happy to send me another phone, Ok I'm optimistic at this point and the phone is sent out... its the same phone Its not a different as promised, ok So I call back, they are always friendly and more then happy to fix the problem, they said they are going to send me a return label and ship out the right phone right away, ok cool I am being patient about this... over a week and half goes past I get no e-mail for a return label and no phone, I just called back... Its now the middle of June, I can't make this stuff up... she says... they never sent me the phone or the label... and I was nice to this person on the phone... so no reason to get even or anything... but now I have lost my patience I just want another carrier... they are supposed to be sending me out a phone! But now I just have given up... so that is my story... besides the fact that just the phones so far have sucked!
3 years after LEAVING Assurance Wireless, they recently sent me a letter inviting me to come back. My immediate reaction to the letter was, "No Way" I certainly do not miss them or their unprofessionalism. I spent a few years at Assurance Wireless where my experience was HORRIBLE. During those few years I received poor treatment and terrible customer service; I had many technical issues; I wrote many complaints: stayed on hold for MULTIPLE hours at a time; had agents hang up the phone on me; I had agents promise to call me back but did not; I had to escalate just about every call; spoke to people who did not understand the English language; I sent them many emails, and even went without service for weeks and a month (at a time) as they continued to fail me as a customer. I wrote the CEO, the Federal Gov't, and many reviews warning others about this company. I do not understand why the government would pay for such inadequate and poor service. Simply put, "The Government uses our Tax Dollars for this service," and Assurance Wireless does not deliver. Eventually, I left Assurance Wireless and I did not look back. I would not wish this company on my worst enemy.
I have had my free phone for almost a year now and it still works well. For a free service, I have nothing to complain about.
Inconsiderate customer service and rude tgey don't listen to anything you say and you can't understand them tgey charge you for stuff no other service does ant every chance they get
Ever hear that it only takes One random act of kindness to roll back the rudeness of a thousand jerks?
I do understand the frustrating times a person has in dealing with Assurance. TRUST ME!
The most frustrating times I have ever had was in dealing with these people. There's so many employees in this company that makes the dumbest person you can think of,, look like a rocket scientist next to most of these people.
I really don't believe knowledge is a requirement to work here.
However, usually after a few days of 20 or so calls, you luck out. You hit that ONE in 20 that even though they sound like the rest of the staff, they CLEARLY, know their business. Finally, you get to your desired goal. Aint victory a little bit sweeter after a battle?
Don't blame the people who although they speak English, they clearly have trouble comprehending it. Blame the Company for outsourcing their jobs to people they REALLY don't care enough about to properly train.
I believed excuses gives by customer service at Assurance Wireless when they said my data, that I just bought, got used up other ways besides me using an app like Facebook, Utube or browser. Excuses given were background and foreground and apps that are already on the phone when it arrives in the mail. These are apps I don't even use. I have disabled a lot of these apps and still after I buy 20.00 worth of data for 4 GB... it is gone within an hour?
9 months in with a beautiful Galaxy clone they provided, and suddenly Assurance said I was ineligible and disabled my phone until I put $30 in a month. It was supposed to be free, and nothing about my disability or financial situation had changed. I had always logged on using data at least once a day. I didn't breach contract. When the trouble started, I noticed they started stealing bits of data. As of today, the data works from my payment, but the phone won't connect to "jack"! Ran through recommended online fixes. Nothin'! Switching to T-mobile android this week, and porting the number. Suffered enough and will contact the NY AG when I have the energy of mind.
If the phone was nicer and got signal so I could actually use it and hear n charge it be amazing but I never have signal it's very slow I can't hear so good but I do appreciate the free phone more than u know it's just frustrating at times not to mention I had to call to get different phone because it wouldn't charge and no signal umx but honestly this one's no better it's no better wiki 9
I've been a customer for two years. The first basic phone they provided me was nothing but cheap junk Hardly kept charged for a day, the signal was poor and I had to almost yell at people so they could hear me. Worst of all it kept overheating when it was charging. And by overheating I mean burning hot! I'd only had the phone a few weeks so I called customer service (because I was afraid it might explode) and they tried to blame me! Only because I said that I had dropped the phone once. Now who hasn't dropped their phone at least one time? I've dropped other phones an never had them get so hot while charging that it nearly burned your hand!
A year later I got newer version of their cheap phone after losing the first one. Just like the first phone it's junk right out of the box. And, just like the previous phone it wont hold a charge for an entire day. The service winks in and out of roaming and the phone opens multiple web pages on it's own. So imagine my surprise when they sent me a notice that my 5gb of internet (which I never use) is gone! This morning when I woke up it had 37 open web pages! I don't even want to bother calling customer service because they are all useless. All they try to do is find a reason to blame you for the problems.
I wouldn't have this service if I didn't need it. This company shouldn't be allowed to treat people this way! How can you call yourself a "life-line" when you can't hardly use the phone? If you are unable to pay for a phone try another company. Better yet get on a family plan with a family member. Don't waste your time with Assurance. You'll be glad you did.
Got an assurance Lifeline free phone & line a few years back. It went good and even switched to a free smartphone then I bought a new Moto from their site in 2019. All going well till a week ago when Assurance sent a Text about switching from SPRINT to the T-Mobile provider. Now I am having error messages & tried hard to get Support from the assurance support team through email or phone but to NO avail.
T- mobile also offering a Free Smartphone but that too is more complicated than it sounds. No one at the Support team or phone is to help the customer.
Don't know what to do?
Attaching the Error Message if someone can help me out Thank you
Be very carefully this company will cheat you out of free GB to get you to spend money for extra data they never turn over data for next month on time. This company will cheat you they just want you to give money for data you should get free. Watch your data they will lie and cheat even if you have proof.
Do not trust this company
The rating should be O
I have read a number of reviews and the majority of people are not happy, however in most cases I think that the reviews are unfair and in a few cases quite amusing.
Let's start with the application process, it was easy, a few details and I am on medicare and on some national register so verification was pretty easy and effortless.
Once approved I received an email telling me that my phone would arrive within 7 to 10 business days. In reality I recieved my phone after only 5 days. Before the phone arrived I received an email telling me what my phone number would be and a usps tracking number.
I live in Ohio, I get 1000 minutes a month, unlimited text messages and 4.5 GB of data per month. This for me is plenty.
The phone I have received is a umx U693 CL. Is it a great phone? No! Was I expecting a great phone? Again No!
The phone is a basic smartphone, very basic, something that you would buy for cheap at Walmart, a good comparison, total wireless. It's not a great phone but at the same time its an ok phone.
This is a lifeline phone, it's not designed for long phone calls, watching movies, taking lots of photos etc, The purpose of the phone is to contact family or friends when needed for short calls, calling to schedule Dr and medical appointments and a little bit of data for basic apps.
So as a summary, and remember, your not paying for this and your not paying for service provided you stay within your limits. Don't have high expectations, if you have high expectations your going to be disappointed. I would suggest you find a good friend or family member to buy you a great phone and pay your bills. If you want something basic to make simple phone calls then this should work for you.
I would recommend once you get your phone set up, you go to settings, turn Mobile data OFF and only use it when you need it, That will save your data and will stop any unnecessary or unintended data usage. In addition, go to settings and uninstall and / or disable any apps that you are not going to use and that will save your battery.
In conclusion, the phone is basic and works for me and my needs.
I've been having problems with my phone and my phone service from Assurance almost every day for many weeks already. Lately, Assurance has gotten a lot worse. It's been taking a long time for them to answer my calls and, in the end, my problems are not solved permanently. I appreciate that the representatives are polite and they have made my anger go away with their apologies and courtesy. But those poor people should not be working for Assurance. Assurance is bad. My husband used to have a phone and service with them until he got fed up with them and now is paying for phone service and his emotional state is better. Except that I have service from Assurance and nowadays he is not able to call me because when he does he receives a message saying that my phone number is not in service. And he's not able to leave me a voice mail on the other occasions when his call goes through. I am now fed up too. Assurance Wireless is bad. I am sorry for those nice representatives who have been courteous with me, but all the time I've wasted calling Assurance and being on hold and explaining things to them and resetting new phones they've sent me after so many calls reporting problems with phones... All the troubles and the problems and time wasted is just not worth it. Assurance is really bad. Assurance Wireless will turn you into a very angry person. I hope you have better luck if you try them.
I've had Assurance Wireless for a few years now. The phones are crap. I needed a new phone and CS offered a Coolpad Android for 6 dollars, it's one of the best phones I've ever had with Assurance. I recommend getting the Coolpad, it's fast, works very well and no more headaches. I have had my money I added last month disappear twice. This is in New York.
The basic free UMX is the worst smart phone that I've ever had in my life. It's complete garbage. It's always crashing no matter what I try to do. I had someone send me a text but I didnt receive it until a half hour later! Whenever I try to go to my messages it will take the phone a good 2 minutes to respond. I'm constantly getting the, "The system UI is not responding" text box every 5 minutes of my life! It's so slow that it's even incapable of doing the basic things that a phone is suppose to do. I don't mind the crappy camera or phone games. I just wanted a basic phone where I can call and text. But you can't even do that with this. A flip phone would have been far better than their crappy UMX any day. Free phon service isn't even worth it when said phone given to you doesn't even work like it's intended to. The customer service line is also full of non native English speakers and, I always find it hard to understand them because they talk way too fast. I might as well just buy my own phone and service.
I've had no problems with assurance. I had to uninstall a few apps in order to save battery life, but my phone works fine. Our government is giving us fee phones yet people still complain. It's like the man dying of starvation that complains the free bread has no butter. I'm ashamed to share a country with sniveling, whiney, spoiled Americans!
Update # 2 (July 16 2021) Wiko game changer magically worked after 25 days of being turned off because it was useless and was not working right. Got a text message and even a letter in the mail asking me to use the cell phone or I
Would lose the service when I turned it back on. Meanwhile since I needed phone service I bought another one with Metro by T-Mobile and that was another adventure. Imagine if it would have been someone who only had that phone and no other service. Really sad. Customer service again is useless. They sound really happy to help you but are very limited as to what they can do.
Assurance gives free phones with malware and viruses and they know that( the ones that are pictured here). So they send you a phone with the same malware and viruses.
Apps downloaded to the phones without permission and ads like g21news showing up when you need to answer a call.
This info is on the internet.
And they have people in Walmart trying to get new customers with the same kind of phone. Wiko gamechanger and the girl told me it was released February 2021 who knows.
How sad that low income have to be stuck with junk.
Lifeline that is what this program is called and yet to them it is all about the money not the customers.
This service is the only connection some people have and ALL of these companies have the worst ratings.
There was one that was raided in Florida Q-LINK wireless for fraud.
Update # 1 It seems like you cannot cancel the account. Called several times and the said they would cancel it. I called my number number and it goes to voicemail so who knows what it is going on. Since the phone is useless I will just let it go and that is the end of this adventure. T-Mobile owns Assurance Wireless Metro by T-Mobile and Sprint not a good idea.
The service is pretty bad. I will go 2 hours without notifications then I'll make a call and all of a sudden I'll get 10 notifications that I shouldve gotten hours ago.
The phone is horrible. Extremely laggy and low response. When I'm on the phone people cant hear me unless I hold the phone a certain way.
Right now it says i have no service. I cant send texts but i can make calls. I turned wifi on and it then said i had service but i couldnt send texts still and the wifi wouldnt even work.
I am switching to safelink wireless in a few days where I can use my own phone. There are literally dozens of issues every day with my phone and service. I guess I should be thankful because it's all free. But I do not recommend
Answer: The URL below will provide instructions on where and how to file complaints about/against Assurance Wireless. https://www.freegovernmentcellphones.net/faq/file-official-complaint-about-your-lifeline-service
Answer: No they only have 1 phone, a UMX. They don't work you can't even call Costomer Service with it.
Answer: I doubt it if you will ever get one and if you do you will wind up throwing it in the trash. Believe me.
Answer: Mine didn't and I just had mine replaced! But both phones are a piece of junk! Do yourself a favor and do not sign up with this company?
