My application was approved and I wanted to transfer benefits to Assurance Wireless. I tried to sign up for the service last week, 8-4-24. The website said that I was already with Lifeline (Assurance Wireless). I didn't understand it so I called, and the representative as usual didn't understand me. They ask me to register over the phone so I did. The representative said to me today that I was already a customer. I said I've never been a customer with Assurance wireless. The rep said I know because I don't have you in here as a customer. I said can I transfer from Safelink, a benefit transfer? She didn't understand me and then said she would have to ask her Supervisor about me being in there system as a customer but I'm not. The Supervisor told her to tell me to go to another service. I tried to ask the rep why can't I sign up for service with them and may I speak to a Supervisor? The rep said for me to hold on and then hung up on me. That was today 8-8-24. I called back about an hour later and the next representative wouldn't allow me to sign up with them either over the phone. My question to her was if it says I'm a customer and I'm not, can you de enroll me or cancel what is in there so I can start over? She didn't understand me either and basically told me to go to another service, she would give me the site to go to. I've never has such a hard way to go trying to get something that is being offered. I've never had it were I can't speak to someone in the USA that I can understand and they can understand me. I'm giving this warning to anyone that is going to have to deal with them so if you are on head medication, have it close by after you finish talking with them. I'm going to get mine now to stop my head throbbing!

The Unimax Phoned & Wiko phones has infestation that is unremovable! It's all over the internet about these phones that Assurance Wireless, backed by Sprint, is giving Lifeline Customers! Make a complaint with the FCC because I already did!

Worst Signal
September 11, 2023

I used to love this cell carrier. When I first got my phone and for the first 2 years or so, the cell reception was great. However, now, I can be sitting in one spot in my house and have full bars of reception... then a minute later, without moving an inch, my reception drops to nothing for no reason. I literally have to restart my phone 12 or more times a day just for it to regain cell signal. Sometimes it'll show that I have full reception signal, then as soon as I try to make a phone call or send an SMS message, it drops to no signal and tell me the "server cannot be reached". I NEVER had this issue until after it was time for me to upgrade my phone. I opted out of upgrading my phone because I like the phone I already have (not to mention, the only phone option they provided me with for an upgrade looked like a cheaper quality phone than the first one they sent me when I started my service with them), and shortly after the upgrade offer, I started having the reception issues. It's ridiculous and very frustrating. It's like I don't even have a phone. I cannot begin to count the number of important phone calls I've missed due to this issue. Or the times I've been away from home and desperately needing to make a phone call, but couldn't because Assurance Wireless' reception is no longer reliable. I do not recommend.

Worst Service
June 10, 2021

I was supposed to get a new phone, mine was not working and told I was getting an upgrade, this is the middle of may, a phone was sent out, to my old address even after they went over my address 3 times, and I have lived in my new place 4 years, So I called and they were happy to send me another phone, Ok I'm optimistic at this point and the phone is sent out... its the same phone Its not a different as promised, ok So I call back, they are always friendly and more then happy to fix the problem, they said they are going to send me a return label and ship out the right phone right away, ok cool I am being patient about this... over a week and half goes past I get no e-mail for a return label and no phone, I just called back... Its now the middle of June, I can't make this stuff up... she says... they never sent me the phone or the label... and I was nice to this person on the phone... so no reason to get even or anything... but now I have lost my patience I just want another carrier... they are supposed to be sending me out a phone! But now I just have given up... so that is my story... besides the fact that just the phones so far have sucked!

Programming sucks! Assurance isn't a cell company I would ever recommend. Horrible! I have to plug my phone in to be able to answer a call, most the time. I'll be contacting the FTC again soon.

The base phone that comes free with this assurance wireless scam is by far the least functional and advertisement full piece of garbage device I've ever used. This thing constantly crashes when doing anything from a simple text to swiping a page. I received a newer version of the same model after breaking my first and somehow this updated version performed even worse. When calling their company for a replacement phone none of them speak fluent English, which isn't a problem if their connection wasn't so bad at times that I can't hear a word they say and they hang up on me. They've hung up on me over 3 times when calling and waiting over 20 minutes at a time to get someone on the line. Most of the time they say I'll put you on hold and then hang up on me just when the connection was fine. I broke my updated phone on purpose because it was so garbage that I couldn't text and I got frustrated and threw it at my door. You can tell they shameless just sell all your personal information to the government or whomever they like, I don't have proof of that but if Google does it then this garbage company that happens to be free surely does. If you try to take off the advertisements that come installed in the phone it literally tells you 'if you disable this feature the phone won't work properly' meaning they sabotage performance if you don't look at their brainwashing and mentally damaging ads. I hope they go bankrupt or something better that is free comes along because the world could definitely go without this. Unless you're literally homeless I do not recommend this product to anyone.

Activation Problem Solved!
September 18, 2021

I had a problem to activate the phone.
I switched because my Samsung always had bead reception up to switching to voicemail not matter where I was. It never rang anymore. Text messages with delay... phone sound quality bad... just annoying all over.
So I got their model CP3320AS2 that is lightly larger than the Samsung. I followed activation instructions but at one step this instruction are different from what the screen shows so I guess that is where I messed up.
Restarted and tried the phone... did not call the number I put in but went straight to Assurance Customer Service! How about that? Ok, Let's talk then. So I rather quickly had a real life person on the phone that had a strong accent from India. Well... my accent is German... I had to focus.
After a short moment the CSR told me to reboot my phone. I did and my phone was activated and in working condition.
THe phone is so much better than my crappy Samsung, it received calls and rings! No more Voicemail as default! But what is way better is that the quality of the sound at phone calls is now clear and crisp.

I have NOTHING to complain! Maybe I am the silent majority?

Agents are in the Philippines and have minimal English comprehension. If you can understand them each agent gives conflicting information. The phone and service are best for minimal use.

The phone itself is awful! So slow every time I try to use it, I have to wait at least a whole minute for the countless ads that pop up just upon opening the phone. I have to close out at least three ads which all will take an extensive amount of time before I can be able to access anything on my phone. It even a problem when I receive a phone call, when I try to answer it I have to deal with closing the ads before I'm able to accept the call but by the time I get through the ads and pop ups I've already missed the call. On top of all that, I've also reviewed the time I spend on the phone upon being cut off by the end of the month with an option to purchase additional minutes being I'm not the only customer to run out of service before the end date when the phone isn't even in use. Seems the phones use up their own data and minutes even while turned off as to encourage customers that they need to purchase more time per month to be able to use their plan. I highly recommend against this service and their cellphones.

I know this is a free service and I wouldn't normally complain about free but it is being used as a safety device also and the first week I had it I became stranded and accosted because it just decided to stop working and I couldn't call anyone not even 911. I have tried troubleshooting it and putting the SIM in other phones but it won't work and I had to just buy another phone and pay for service

Worse cell phone service to have. Definitely do not recommended to anyone. DO NOT GO WITH THEM they take your money and then they won't refund you the money after they tell you to return the two broken cell phones that I got. I got a cell phone from them cause my old one was broken they told me I needed to pay for the new I did and they sent me one that didn't even turn call them up they sent me another and the same thing it would NOT turn on. Call them up and spoke to rep and they told me I would get a refund back and now we are into three weeks and no refund. Call them and they tell me I'm not getting my money, just like that. This service is a BIG SCAM DO NOT GO WITH THEM OR EVER GIVE THEM ANY MONEY.

From my experience, my first phone would not keep a charge and randomly power off and the replacement phone was even worse. These may be refurbished phones but I use that word lightly because it seems they are just given a quick check. When I had to contact customer support again for an updated phone, I made it a point to ask if I could just purchase one of their approved phones. The rep assured me that a new phone would be sent as I am not able to use my phone (it's dead). After a couple letters stating they would be switching from the Spring 3G network and saying that I needed to respond, I called back to renew the application process and mail in the requested information (sensitive information) with their provided envelope. I still get letters claiming I need to respond and have made my last attempt at contacting them regarding the application status. I might get the phone or not but my main concern is where my information is going as they never follow up with anything and the call centers are not local so some reps are very difficult to understand.

Based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend anyone on a fixed income or short-term financial disadvantage attempt to apply for this service. If you need something for work or emergencies (ie: family, etc), it is better to find a cheap TracFone or similar and keep track of your minutes.

I bought a replacement phone over a month ago and could not program it due to some baloney about it being locked. I phoned the company no less than 20 times and each time a rep assured me, my phone would be on in the next hour. " I guarantee you Miss... your phone will be unlocked and working". What lies.

Today I was told I could not get refunded for my replacement phone because the phone had been activated. I told them the phone was LOCKED and unusable. They also told me to take out the old sim from the first phone and put it in the new, then another rep said to switch the SIMS back to original phones. Another told me it was my problem I did not send the phone back in the return envelope. I told him there was no return envelope. Another said I could get a refund without the tax included and today a rep told me I cannot get a refund.

One rep even told me I could not get refunded because I was upset!

So, it was round and round the mulberry bush. I told them I intend to complain to the FTC for fraud. What a bunch of liars and fraudsters. Everything they told me was a lie and they even tried to get me to stay with them when I made it clear, I went with a different carrier and want nothing further to do with Assurance.

They constantly send out old phones that have been reprogrammed. The phones constantly has problems intentionally just so you'll have to call them to fix the issue just for them to tell you that you need a replacement phone so they can collect $25 off of you. They know the phones are jacked up and they're just gaining money off the government and off of YOU. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, I've had to the have so many phones replaced through them due to junk phones they keep sending ANYONE that needs a replacement phone and they as well expect you to pay for JUNK.

I've been sent two Schok phones that don't work, drop calls and are JUNK phones. Years ago if you signed up for Lifeline at least you got a phone that would work. It may not have been the BEST phone but they worked. Now, they are just sending JUNK phones to people, collecting government money that is supposed to be helping struggling Americans and burning off with the money, leaving people who desperately need a phone number with crap phones and stuck without service when, not IF, the phones quit working. I am so disgusted at what these supposed "Lifeline" providers are doing to already hurting people. And yes, I am doing everything I can to try and help myself. Thanks to this company, I may or may not get much needed calls from potential job applications. To top it off, all the customer service jobs are outsourced to foreign countries so when you do call customer service you can't even understand what they are saying and they DON'T CARE anyway. They are making a buck off of our tax dollars and a program that is supposed to be helping Americans who need it.

Contact the FCC complaint site about this company. This needs to stop. https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us
