“People in county jail will treat you better”

Chris C.
10/3/22

If you're thinking about doing business with an entity who doesn't think twice about treating you like a mugger on the street then go for it. So Acorns takes away the "lite" account after I had already removed my funds and then "upgraded" my "free" subscription without my consent or knowledge, and automatically has been charging me 3 dollars a month for 5 months since then. Wow. Just wow. It doesn't make it right because you sent out 2 emails which I didn't get because I don't check my old email address, and assumed everything was ok, but you just had to go there. I will be reporting your company to every agency I can and disputing these charges with my Bank. This is disgusting, low, low, low, criminal behavior. What a company.

Tip for consumers:
Just because Forbes, CNN, MSNBC or any other big name gives it's stamp of approval, doesn't mean a company is trustworthy or isn't a criminal grifter.

I opened an Acorns account on Dec 29,2021. It has been a nightmare from the start. I was unable to link my USBank VISA card to enroll in RoundUps. I sent Acorns Customer Service an email, as there is no phone number to speak to a real person, and this is where my hell began. It was a simple, routine issue on their end. Instead, I received not one reply from them, but a total thread of 16, several of which were a robotic message with the exact same instructions they had sent me before. To which I indicated did not work (numerous times). Then the madness started. I received an email from them "confirming that my CAP ONE VISA was linked". OK, if they would have bothered to read my message, they would have known it wasn't my CapOne Visa that was the issue, but rather my USBANK VISA! Back to square one. I spoke to USBank at length regarding this issue as Acorns Cust Serv kept telling me the issue was on their end. To which USBank assured me that there were no issues on their part and advised that there was an ongoing Class Action lawsuit again a Third-Party Vendor that Acorns uses to obtain their members financial information. They also mentioned that they have gotten a lot of calls about this same issue with Acorns' members. I requested my Acorns account be closed and all funds be wired back to my checking account ASAP. I received confirmation that they had closed my account. Although... still waiting on my funds to be returned. Red Flags!

Tip for consumers:
Please read my review before linking any financial institution information and becoming a member. Have a nice day!

I have had an investing account with Acorns for a couple years now with no issue, but recently I get my round ups restarted, open a retirement account, and a checking account with them as they were offering a couple promotions. Well as soon as my direct deposit confirms to my Acorns checking account and my debit card is activated, my ENTIRE account is suspended because suddenly they are "audited" and need to confirm my address. They didn't halt transfers, or restrict a couple features, no they completely suspended my entire account refusing me access to even SEE my own account balances or check on ANYTHING. I supply them with a renter's insurance policy bill, internet bill, home security bill, water bill, energy bill, and gas bill, all in my name at the address in question. They state that it will take 1-2 days to review, completely unsatisfied with that answer I go to their site to chat with a live agent. It takes almost 30 minutes to get a live agent who does nothing but says my ticket has been submitted to an "internal review team" and will take 1-2 days before I can access my account again. Still unsatisfied, I call them and wait on hold for 2 ENTIRE HOURS, to be told the same thing and when I ask to be directed to this "internal review team" I am told that they can't be reached but my ticket will be given the "highest priority". How is a high priority supposed to mean anything when you can't even reach these people? How is this acceptable that I have an account about to receive my entire paycheck and I can't access it to pay any of my bills? I won't be able to see my money and confirm it has been deposited, I won't be able to access it for groceries, bills, rent, or gas, and I can't even log in to withdraw from my accounts so I can cancel them and take my business elsewhere. Completely unacceptable service from a financial institution. Steer very clear from Acorns.

Tip for consumers:
This isn't the first site issue they have had where users have been completely locked out of their accounts unable to not only access their funds, but not even able to SEE their funds. Don't even bother with their customer service, they will give you no other clarification or information than the error message when you log in.
