In what may irk woman activists across the country, Farhan Azmi has come to his Samajwadi Party leader and father's defence with a derogatory slur comparing Bollywood actresses to individuals who make a living by offering sexual favours.

Following the mass molestation incident in Bengaluru, the Mumbai unit leader of the Samajwadi Party condemned women for wearing short dresses and being inspired by western culture, which led to such occurrence. It seems that we are nowhere near seeing this "blame the victim" culture ending anytime soon.

His insensitive remarks enraged people especially Bollywood celebrities who retaliated out on the politician in different ways to call out his misogyny and spoke in favour of the victims.

Esha Gupta was one of many who spoke out against the politician, and went a step further blaming his mother for giving birth to him. "The only woman to blame here, n she probably would have blamed herself too, is the woman who unknowingly gave birth to a jerk like u #AbuAzmi," she tweeted.

And it was enough to tip off Farhan Azmi to go on a slut-shaming rant to protect his father. Farhan Azmi took the baton and in turn stooped low, insulting Esha Gupta and going on a sexist rant trying to justify his father's remarks.

In a series of tweets that were written in Hindi, he remarked that on the one hand, we demean the women who sell their bodies to earn money, but on the other, we honour those who bare their skin for crores (alluding to actresses), he tweeted. Farhan further added, in the name of art, women have been called ‘tandoori murgi' and ‘Zandu balm', it's on songs such as those that the ‘well-wishers of society' sit and enjoy their drinks. What happens then?

Not just that, Abu Farhan Azmi also retweeted one of the tweets of a person who slut shamed, Esha Gupta. Esha Gupta like the sensible woman that she is, took the high ground and chose her words wisely to answer back, "It's ok… small-minded people don't deserve attention."

On a related note, Farhan is married to a famous Bollywood actress who delivered successful films in the 2000's.
