When I first joined this site a couple years ago it was a great video game trading community. I'm not sure what happened between then and now but the site is a garbage dump. Coins were de-valued to 75 cents on the dollar but now prices are so high they look as if they're 7 cents on the dollar. I see $20 games at gamestop being listed at 300 coins! Just an awful site.

99Gamers was a good trading site at first, but their recent actions completely betrayed the trust of their users. They stopped providing support then removed features. After a while they just abruptly shut down their site completely without warning, leaving tons of members with empty pockets and wasted money. For anybody looking for an alternative, I'd highly recommend LeapTrade.

You can still buy things if you have coins left (hopefully you don't at this point), but you are now unable to list new items. The only thing this tells me is the site appears to be going into full lockdown mode. What this amounts to is a dwindling supply of items and a lot of people with coins that they can no longer redeem on anything because few sellers are willing to ship things at this stage.
In 2015, without prior notification, 99Gamers changed the value of coins from $1 -> $. 75. This caused sellers to jack up the prices, usually beyond what the indicated dollar value should be, and kicked off the inflation with full force. In the subsequent months, the offers from 99Gamers to individuals to buy 25 coins for $10 effectively decreased the value of coins from $. 75 -> $. 40 which was the beginning of the end. At this stage they're worth pennies on the dollar.
I don't believe it was intended from the beginning as a scam. However, I do not think that the site management has been forthcoming with updates at any point, whether for the devaluation of the currency or information about this lockdown and other site changes. For example, the site forum was shut down at about the same time as the currency devaluation began, which is pretty damning.
During the good times I always had great service from the moderators and other 99Gamers staff and I have no complaints about them. It was great while it lasted, but that time is past and hopefully the next generation of game trading sites will learn from the mistakes made here.

This site is dead. The coins were devalued to. 75c per dollar, and are now worth probably around. 50c per dollar. I am stuck with 34 coins and all the listings from the site have disappeared, leaving games like pokemon for 100 coins, or Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam for 20 coins. Absurd. Avoid this site like the plague. The creators of the site have shut down the forums after censoring peoples negative reactions and comments to their shady practices. They have since moved onto some other scam service called TyDy and have left the site to implode upon itself.

Great little trading site that just started! So far i have sent out a few games and received a few more, everything has been nice and smooth. The site owners actually interact with you unlike some other sites... click the chat button and talk straight to the owner... post in the forums and get a response from a mod/admin/owner within minutes... ask that a game listing be fixed or added to the database and BOOM within an hour or so its there. 99gamers has the potential to be a very good "by user" trading site.

This site is basically a rip-off of another site that went by the wayside, Goozex. With any fake currency-based system there are bound to be economy problems. This can be seen by Gooz... I mean 99gamer's recent decrease in coin (fake currency) pricing. The pricing used to be $1 = 1 coin but now it is $0.75 = 1 coin. In the past new releases and valuable games were highly inflated in coin value (sometimes 2,3 or 4x the monetary value), I can only expect this to worsen now that the coin (fake currency) is worth even less.

My account had over 100 positive feedback (no negatives) and I have been slowly emptying my coins (fake currency) for the inevitable end. They recently banned my account because I wanted to "trade" games for other games (which is apparently against the rules because they make no money off of it). Check out www.gametz.com instead. They have been around for over 15 years and cost nothing to trade, buy or sell games. Funny enough, any mention of "gametz" is filtered on 99gamers... Guess they're afraid. It'll be hard to be afraid when they're out of business in the very near future.

99gamers is great if you enjoy getting games that are not as described, game purchases ignored or timed out, unprofessionally shipped games by 4 year olds who use the site, admins who are clueless and only out to make a buck, and a rule system from Nazi Germany.

Buying from this site is very questionable. The administrators taut their ineffable rules over the site like they can't be broken, which couldn't be further from the truth. You buy "Coins" (1 coin is worth $1) in groups of 5. Sellers have to pay out of pocket for shipping.

And coins CAN'T be cashed in for money.

Say you want a game that's listed at 20 coins, so you buy $20 worth and "buy" the game. The seller has to acknowledge the trade, so you're not SURE you'll get the game. You just have to wait. The seller can CANCEL the trade on his/her own, or they can wait four days for the sale to CANCEL automatically. About 25% of all listings are from sellers who will fail to ship the game.

Reasons I've gotten for failing to ship a game: I was out of town, it's a holiday, I didn't realize I had to pay shipping, price was too low, sellers that never log in after listing a game, etc. So if your trade gets cancelled and you can't find another game, you are effectively OUT $20. That $20 is an investment, and you have to let it sit there.

Even if you do get the game, there are no strict guidelines on how a physical game can be listed. Someone can list a copy of Bravely Default for the 3DS as "Like New" but it's actually cartridge only. You buy it for 30 coins ($30) and get only the cartridge in the mail. You can't dispute it and get your money back. The best you can do is send negative feedback. And you're out $30 for a cartridge only game.

So tell me, HOW are you getting a good deal on a game if the price might be too low, you might get a game that's not in the condition it was listed in, or you don't even get the game? It's like playing the lottery.

It's also a cutthroat website for selling. Other sellers will complain about you to the website Administrators, who typically side with the person complaining and will deactivate your account for disagreeing with them. This website is run by two brothers and the older brother's wife, all of whom show favoritism to their friends. If you do something wrong, they will just remove your account and you will lose all of the money you sunk into it.

And as a seller, you also get the buyers who just steal from you. Say you're a legit seller, and you sell someone a "Like New" copy of Bravely Default for 30 coins. You send the game ($2. Xx out of your pocket for shipping), but then they NEVER say they received it. What do you do? The value is less than $50, so you can't take legal action. Site administrators will not intervene and give you the other person's coins. And that means you LOSE your copy of Bravely Default, you LOSE the $2. Xx it costs to ship, and you LOSE the 30 coins.

Why would you bother with such a risk? There is a topic on the forums dedicated to people who have been scammed in such a way. It happens a lot on this website.

I was a member during their beta testing, and had made over 500 transactions on the site. Another seller reported a listing I had labeled as a physical copy that was actually a Steam key. I told Brandon, the site administrator, that I would write the code down and send it via mail. He disabled my account instead.

In summation, you are never guaranteed anything from this site. You can get scammed by buyers, sellers, treated unfairly by administrators, invest your time and money into the process, and come out with what? Games that you bought for roughly the same amount as GameStop or ebay? At least eBay has proven methods that are backed by Paypal and refunded with real cash money.

Stick to eBay. Skip this worthless site.

Tip for consumers:
You pay for shipping yourself. Other users are able to scam you. You are not guaranteed the products OR the site's currency. It is a big risk for having so little profit in the end.

Brandon K. – 99Gamers Rep

The above member was a member of 99Gamers until he was banned for repeatedly breaking our community rules after being warned numerous times.

At the time of being banned he had 7 coins in his account and we gave him the choice of liquidating his balance. The offer still stands and any time a member is banned from our community they always have the option of spending their remaining coin balance and that offer is ongoing.

The above member repeatedly and intentionally broke our community rules, specifically by listing digital games as physical games to get around our buy limit.

On 99Gamers shipping is free when buying a game because the seller pays for shipping. A buyer is allowed to purchase 5 games for every one sold. At that point they have to sell a game, as we like to keep shipping costs fair among members.

We do not have a buy limit on digital games as there is no shipping cost for a digital game.

The above poster would list digital games as physical copies to get around the buy limit.

This goes against the principles of what our community stands for and when it was brought to his attention on numerous occasions he did not deny what he was doing, was unapologetic and obviously in disagreement with our community guidelines.

That is fine but after repeated warnings it was best to ban the member as his actions were abusing all other members of the community.

The fact that the member had 500 previous transactions is a testament to how good our community marketplace is at saving gamers money and like I had previously stated above; we offered Josh the option of spending his remaining coin balance down. We still extend that offer but as a community marketplace we cannot have people taking advantage of our community.

Our sellers use a tracking number when they ship the game and in doing so are 100% guaranteed to receive their coins. We've had over 60,000 completed transactions and just under $1 million dollars worth of video games exchanged among members.

The other criticisms are unfounded and really amount to an individual knowingly breaking our community rules at the expense of our other members, getting caught and being upset about it.

I'm not even married so at best his accusations are fictitious and at worst just flat out lies.

Best,

Jon Kruzeniski

Okay here's the thing:
99gamers is the new revolution for game trading.
No joke.
The last (and only) bad review has no reason to be here. Read the letter one of 99gamers representatives wrote to explaining how this reviewer was abusing the rules.
At first, like everyone else, I was skeptical. I mean, a site where you can sell games based on value for other games you want? Sounds fishy. I found out about this site through Tamashii Hiroka's Youtube account. I figured "If a respected Youtuber trusts 99gamers, maybe it isn't so bad." I am sooooo glad I joined because in the first FIVE minutes of posting my games, two people had bought something from my shop, no joke!. I'm planning on buying Pokemon Red, which on here is only 15 coins for the cartridge. They also sell Steam games like Five nights at Freddy's for 2 coins (1 coin is equivalent to 1 USD). I have had no bad experiences with this site so far and as a 14 year old with a bunch of unused games, this site is perfect. Thank you, creators of 99gamers, (forgot your names, sorry).
