“Love the playlists”

I love being able to listen to and share playlists, and 8tracks is great for discovering new music. But I wish they hadn't added the ads.

All of my tracks. My carefully crafted playlists. Worthless. Thanks for $#*!ing nothing. Seriously. Youtube broke everything. My playlists won't even play the tracks.

Loved 8tracks for years, literally... but the new song ads are driving me INSANE. Its always the worst music (I'm talking abrasive hip-hop/country in the middle of a lyric-free study playlist) and you are forced to listen to the whole thing if you want to continue listening to your playlist - otherwise it skips to the next playlist. Way worse than any other type of ads - will be looking for a new music website.

8tracks has to be the best social experience I have ever had. At first I began by sampling my brother's mixes, then branched out.

I have stumbled on genres I was previously oblivious to, found amateur DJs that have the taste to pique my pallet, raise my hair, and make my ears cry for joy.

8tracks has proven to do more for broadening my music horizons than all the other internet radio sites combined. It has made every day a search for the perfect sound track for my life, and on most days I have succeeded. Truly a great bit of code, and a true accomplishment. Keep up the innovation and forethought.

Love the playlists and ideas of this site. But it has been up WAAAYYY too long to still have CONSTANT glitches. Have to refresh the page after EVERY SINGLE SONG on EVERY SINGLE PLAYLIST (its not just my internet, this happens to everyone i know who uses it on their computer or phone) because it gets stuck loading. Constant glitches such as page not loading, images not loading, text scrambled up, sometimes the entire site doesn't work for like an hour, it just sucks. DO NOT try to clean with 8tracks on because you spend 3 minutes listening to a song, then 30 seconds going back to the computer, refreshing the page, reclicking play, and getting back to what you were doing. Ends up being a huge inconvenience unless you are actually on the computer while listening. Might as well be listening to music on youtube, since you have to load a new song every time anyways.

It was perfect, all up until the ads came.

I have made playlists on 8tracks that I have put hours into and lots of thought that have had hundreds to thousands of hits over the years. But what I am most aggravated about is that I (the creator) can't listen to my own playlists without these recent ads loudly disrupting my music every other song. It irritates me that this once free site, is now a money grab.

When did 8Tracks change to a 'pay to play' format? Sure you needed to pay for unlimited skips - just like Pandora. But now you only get an hour's worth of music before you suddenly have to start paying for it? What the hell? The whole point of this site was to allow people to create custom playlists that you couldn't normally find in other places and share them with other users - now it's pretty much useless!

Tip for consumers:
Don't be afraid to share your own playlists!

I used to love 8tracks. It would give me hours of music. These ads are super annoying and I'm not paying to listen to it. I'll just figure out something else. I hope they listen to the unhappy customers and fast.

This website isn't too bad! I like how you can put together mixes and have people listen to them. Very awesome!

I love how I can be like an amateur DJ and let other people listen to my mixes. Other users have great stuff up there, but I do wonder how they get away with us listening to all of the copyright music for FREE!

8tracks used to be my go-to music player. I get that they need to make money, but one hour of free music and then you have to pay? Um, no thanks. Custom playlists were the main draw, but am I going to pay 30 bucks a year when I could just trade playlists with my friends? Hell no. Hopefully they hear their customers and find another way.

Since the site changed to using Youtube videos, it just doesn't work. Most of the songs just don't play and, recently, it says that a video can't be found. I can't skip to the next one, the whole playlist just won't play. No matter what playlist it is, the videos cannot be found. The site worked better before, there was no point changing it. I used to love this site, I discovered so many different songs and bands, but now it is just awful.

I'm disappointed with the transition of 8tracks into Youtube track format. I can't skip songs, have to press refresh on the webpage after each song to get to the next track, some songs won't play at all and this difficult navigation has forced me to switch my music streaming choice. I used to love 8tracks and was the most passionate advocate for it and am now forced to move on.

8tracks is another music site for users who are looking for new music, whether it is similar to the music they currently like or something completely different. If you like it when friends burn you mixed cds, you'll probably like it. There is a mix for any kind of mood you are in or any band/singer you search for (whether you need a pick-me-up, want to listen to ska, or want to go to sleep). You can favorite a song you like or favorite a mix, and you can create your own. It can be a little weird to navigate if you're not used to it, and it's easy to find songs you don't like, but it's great for trying new songs or repeating the mixes you do like and sharing with others.

I understand that you make business from ads but it is more important to consider the fan's needs. You need to reduce the amount of ads, I feel lucky every time I found a song between those ads.

Lots of good music from all genres. However the help section on the site is terrible and it's coverage is meager at best. The "contact us" button is completely worthless since no one ever responds. Sent the same 2 questions to them 3 times. Got zero response, which I considered rude. Hence the 1 star rating. If I was rating the available music only, I'd give it 4.5 stars.

Technology has made media consumption fairly convenient. Music has benefited from the growth and listeners from all walks of life can hear what they want, when they want and where they want. These new music platforms have also become multifaceted. You can find new music, share music, create your own music; the list goes on. But with anything, there are many pros and cons. The end that is greater than the other will determine the amount of users on a particular website.

8tracks is a great website if you are looking for a genre playlist. If you search for an artist, you can find playlists that already have a predetermined list of songs. It is effective in helping you find a playlist. It offers you a selection of playlists that are titled by moods, phrases, etc. If you are looking for a playlist to set a tone, the unique playlist titles can help guide you to the right list. It is very user friendly; simply search an artist and a list of playlists pop up. The only main con is that you also can't skip past songs. If you are impatient like me, and you are picky with music, this site might test your patience. I would recommend this site to friends, but to a more open-minded group.

8tracks is a very cool site where anyone can put together their own mix, usually around 30 minutes of music (or roughly 8 tracks). It's a convenient way to find the best crowdsourced music by genre. It's very similar to the old muxtape, but apparently legal, so hopefully it will be around for a little longer.

On the site, everything is organized clearly by genre and user. You can browse or search for a genre, and then list all the mixes in that genre by date, popularity, or random. You can also follow certain individuals if you really like the mixes they've created. I really like the minimalistic interface, which lists the song information, lets you skip tracks, and incorporates a lot of social features like commenting and sharing.
