By now you got the answer. Yes, you have to pay if you are in Europe for sure... other countries too as you see above. I paid 60 swiss francs for an order of around 60 CHF... in VAT and handling charges. So its double...

Yes, you have to pay VAT for the goods.
Since in many cases from china the goods are declared as "empty boxex" or "gifts", sometime you doesn't pay it, but if they catch you, you risk a winter because of a fake declaration to custom. So ever pay the fee that they propose you to handle custom related problems themself.

If and how much you have to pay to customs depents on the country.
Normaly when ordering from outside your custom-area there will be no charges under a minimum amount, between minimum and an other certain amount you pay only taxes and above that amount duty as well.

I have not paid tax on any of my orders from overseas as they were not for commercial purposes. At the moment there is some talk about imposing GST on products over a certain value to make it a level playing field for local producers and stores.
If you want to get the correct answers to a specific questions, all it will take is for you to make you enquiry to the relevant customs and excise authority

If you choose super saver delivery you don't have to pay anything but you'll have to wait a lot more to get your goods. If you choose express delivery you'll have to pay customs charges (usually to DSL). But if your order is less than 20 € DSL doesn't use to charge that customs taxes. I'm in Spain.

I'm in the UK had to pay nearly £40 import VAT and handling charge! If my items had been of higher value I would have to pay customs charges too. The courier would not release the goods for delivery until I paid this charge! Very expensive for me in the end, for what was essentially cheap tat!

I did have to duty. You find that out when the shipper emails you that you have to pay it.
