My Dad and my Family had a long drawn out 85 day terrible experience while he was in for Rehab at Abbey *******@2000 Lowson Blvd. In Delray Beach, FL *******.

Sadly my Dad in deplorable condition was Discarded (Abbey Delray calls it Discharged) from Abbey Delray to a nursing home and he was dead within 30 Days. It appears that Abbey Delray didn't want Dad dying on their watch or in their facility as deaths occurring in Abbey Delray likely wouldn't look good on paper. In addition they Discarded Dad with Severe Pneumonia.

Dad arrived at Abbey Delray for Rehab, doing crossword puzzles, having intelligent conversations as always, singing and cracking jokes, but during the 85 days and up to Discardment and beyond, our Proud, Intelligent, Loving Dad was seeing and grasping at imaginary things and sucking on tissues thinking it was food.

Google and Yelp Website reviews allow me to post our terrible experiences, But Caring.com appears to be a protection racket for Senior Care, Nursing Home and Rehab facilities,

Caring.com so far has not allowed me to post my honest review, saying that it was posted elsewhere. It was not because I changed some things in the review so I rewrote the review and so far they still not have approved or posted it.

If you look at their website, Caring.com has Abbey Delray with 4.3 Stars. Other review websites have Abbey Delray at a more honest rating of 1.2/5 to 3.1/5 Star reviews.

I can only surmise the that when caring.com say you are duplicating reviews, that they mean they will not publish your review because it is a Negative Review about Abbey Delray and that doesn't put Abbey Delray in a good light.

I don't know what's going on at caring.com, But please don't believe the Hype aka Positive Reviews and high star ratings due to Caring.com not posting many of the Negative, low star Ratings, which falsely elevates the current positive high star count, when it comes to making your decision whether or not to admit your loved one to Lifespace Communities dba Abbey Delray who hires a Contracted Rehabilitation Company named Select Rehabilitation based out of Illinois but who have their Contracted Rehabilitation teams in approx. 46 States.

Here's an important take away regarding a Nursing Home, Rehabilitation, Assisted Living Facility which hires a Contracted Rehabilitation Team from a company like Select Rehabilitation compared to directly hiring and paying certified individuals to form their own in-house rehab team.

Even though the Contracted Rehab Team may be doing a satisfactory job regarding rehabbing your loved one, Dad as in our case was at Abbey Delray for 85 days, and 95% of his care was attended to by direct employees hired by Abbey Delray and it was these employees where most of the issues ocurred. The rehab team directly Rehabs Dad for like an hour or so a day. The Abbey Delray employees care for him the other 23 hours a day.

But there is a conflict of interest regarding the Contracted Rehab team and Abbey Delray who hires them as in this case.

Contracted Rehab does not only offer Rehab but they are made aware of the many issues Dad is having outside of the rehab team with Abbey Delray. Which is affecting his rehabilitation efforts and progress.
Considering that the Admin at Abbey Delray told me that with just a phone call he can have one or more or the entire Contracted Rehab team removed from the facility and replaced, how much can the rehab team do. Not much.

Here's an example. Dad was supposed to get transfer to toilet assistance by the CNAs as ordered by the Director of the contracted rehab. I find out that the CNAs are refusing to do this. I bring up this issue to the rehab director who appears very concerned. She educates the CNAs and tells them to transfer Dad to toilet. So for awhile this occurs but here's the catch. The CNAs learn that most of Dad's call button requests are to help transfer him to toilet for bowel movements. So they take up to and over an hour to respond, so Dad has no choice but to wear Diapers and crap in them. This sadly went on for the majority of his 85 days. This was only the tip of the iceberg of the many many issues Dad had at Abbey Delray.

Even though Dad received rehab for an hour a day, the relationship between the Contracted Rehabilitation team and the care or rather lack of care Dad received from Abbey Delray is intertwined 24 hours a day.

One cannot work without the other to achieve the greatest benefit to the patient. It is impossible, imo.

Contracted Rehab can only do so much.
The Conflict of Interest between the Contracted Rehabilitation team and the company who hires them is just too great of a challenge to overcome when it comes to your loved one receiving the proper care.

Thank you for reading my review.
I didn't go into the particulars of my Dad's case here because this review is about caring.com.

If I am allowed to post further information keeping within the guidelines, I will if someone notifies me that I can.

Update: caring.com refused to approve my review once again. No surprise there.
I've spent hours revising my review but forget them. I'll make it my mission to inform everyone I can as to the protection racket caring.com is engaged in regarding Abbey Delray, Select Rehabilitation and facilties like them.
Absolutely Disgusting.
And I let caring.com know this in my emailed response.

Update:

I'll keep this short. One of caring.com defenses regarding my review is that they do indeed approve One Star reviews and not just positive reviews for Abbey Delray.
They go on to say that they approved One (1) Star review for Abbey Delray.

They approved ONE (1) STAR NEGATIVE Review and (26) Positive Reviews of (3) Stars & higher.
That's their defense. I need not say anymore. You can't make this stuff up.
Caring.com just proved one of my points in their own words of why you should not use caring.com as one of your criteria in choosing a nursing home, skilled nursing facility, etc., for your loved one...

Hi Richie C, Thanks for your feedback. Our team can be reached via reviews@caring.com if you have any additional questions or need further help with the review guidelines and publishing valid review content.

Also, Caring isn't in a "protection racket" — we've run a high integrity consumer reviews program for over 13 years, with tens of thousands of negative reviews published publicly on our website (including a 1-star memory care review on the Abbey Delray listing). Caring didn't notify or consult Abbey Delray in processing your review submission; and that business isn't involved in processing or approving any reviews for our website (they're also not a verified partner of Caring). The positive ratings on their Caring.com reviews profile were for independent living, assisted living and memory care services; 93% are from seniors and their family members who used our referral services and reflect their honest assessment of the senior living services being offered. We understand you're reviewing a different care level with a different opinion than other consumers; we're happy to help you publish a review within the site guidelines. We'll reach out to you directly to support you via reviews@caring.com. Thank you!
