I decided to try L-Theanine as a supplement for recovery days after a workout. I had read reviews that gave varying results, so with all new supplements I try, I made sure to use it without any other supplements and start with the minimum dose to identify its effects. I am an active 5'7", 125lb female, 32 years old and took a 200mg capsule of L-Theanine 2hrs after a meal mid-afternoon on a non-workout day.

For me, the effects of L-Theanine were highly noticeable about 30min after taking. While I had read reviews that noted a calming, non-drowsy effect, my experience was more intense. I felt very drowsy and had a difficult time concentrating the rest of the day. I slept very soundly, but still had a feeling of brain-fog for a few hours the next day. This supplement is often combined with caffeine, and I may try this combination in the future. For me, this is a supplement I will use in the future on off-days following an intense workout.
