Canva is a great tool for what it is. An easy way to create images. You can use it for free and the premium membership is about $9-13/month. I don't remember exactly and it depends on the duration of the membership.
I started using Canva 2 years ago on the free membership and I upgraded to premium a year ago because I started a blog and I wanted more images. Before going premium, I tried the free trial a couple of times and I could cancel them very easily. (The first time I forgot to cancel, so I had to pay for a month, but I cancelled it and, at the end of the - paid - month my subscription got cancelled as it should.) And they sent me at least two emails - maybe three?- to inform me that the free trial was running out. I was just stupid and didn't check my emails.
I don't know what's wrong with people complaining about Canva - they may have had a different experience than I had. Or they are just getting paid by other platforms or work there. I don't know.
Of course, for all you know maybe, I'm getting paid for writing this. I'm not, but you can't know this, can you?: P
Anyway, paranoia aside, just try the free membership. Even the free membership is a great one. The only thing I really mind in the free membership is that you can't save images with transparent background. (At least, when I was on the free membership.) So I was using Lunapic for removing the background - it was a pain, to be honest.
(I use a lot of times the phrases "free trial" and "free membership", so to avoid confusion, let me make something clear. There are two memberships - free and premium. There is a 30-day free trial if you want to check out the Premium membership, and you get charged if you don't cancel before it runs out.)
