In wine there must be relevance. Why read about wines?. Yes, you can learn a great deal and sometimes that is enough. But can you use this information? I believe it can serve you well professionally if you are in the beverage industry. In the hospitality industry you might be encouraged to host wine tastings. I once found it invaluable socially. I love wines and I love tasting and talking about them. The reason I stopped subscribing was the sheer amount of information in each issue. I could not retain it because it wasn't relevant to my daily life. So, too much information.

I'm far from being a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like. However, bitter, acidic, tasteless, bland, flavorless, and plain wines are not in the category of my favorite wines. YET, Wine Spectator continues to give high rankings to these "junk" wines that I pour out after a couple of sips. Some of the cheap, bulk packaged wines taste a lot better that those that Wine Spectator has rated 89 and over. I no longer trust anything rate by Wine Spectator. The Wine Advocate and some of the lesser known but professional critics are better indicators of great wines.
