They started out as a good platform for talent many years ago, but like so many stories of greed, this one takes a familiar path; exploit talent and squeeze them for every cent you can. They not only take annual dues from talent, but take a percentage of the talent fees as well?! Brazen theft IMO. They've also been accused of padding the fees without Informing the talent. This is the very last place any voice over artist should patronize.
The math is bad for talent on this site. They charge voice seekers to hire you on top of the annual membership fee you pay them, plus brokerage fees they charge you each time to obtain work. They also handle all invoicing and act as a middle-man, so you don't enjoy the advantage of a ongoing, personal relationship with the client. Do your research on this one.
I find no fault with the continuing education and training resources they offer. However, I find them notoriously silent when asked about their Professional Services program and how they determine what part of the voice seeker's budget goes to the voice actor. Questions on the topic went unanswered for months, the first response I did receive referred me to another person for answers, and my e-mail follow-up on that second person's unscheduled phone call also went unanswered. Even the latest update (January) regarding PS on the site's blog refers to clarification in the contract between Voices and the voice seeker, but not the voice actor. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that I preferred to have a record of the questions and answers about PS - the silence with which that e-mail was greeted is suspicious. Some people are doing well with Voices.com, and good for them, but I'm done with this runaround.
British voice over uk seems to think they are one if the best voice overs in the Industry.
The simple truth is that they aren't as there are so much better.
A Google research will show you that unreasonable and unreliable is commonly used.
My experience with this VO is that it's a very fair comment.
London based radio station.
This site came recommended on someone's YouTube channel as a free site to make money from home so I had to check them out. Upon scrolling through their website, it screams SCAM on all levels whether you're either a client or a talent. (Trust me, in this day & age of doing so much online work, companies like these are easier to spot from a mile away.) They do offer "free" services, not unlike other sketchy online money-making websites, and their extortionate membership fees of $499 and $2,999 per year are immediate red flags.
You may claim I'm misjudging them but I don't want you to experience the unnecessary headaches of these online scams. When a business model is out there to help people, you can tell. When it is there to make money at all cost, you can also tell. Never mind whatever it is promising you, that is just the bait.
This website is being run by people who are in it to make money, period. From my years of working online, such people will take advantage of you whether you're a job seeker or job provider. Ethics are non-existent & you should only proceed to work with them if you do not mind getting ripped off.
Because of my experiences on several online platforms like voices.com, I am taking the time write this review because I am tired of dishonest people enriching themselves over job-seekers & the employers who are honestly trying to help them.
If you're looking for talent, post on a legitimate job-search website. If you're looking for work, do the same - post your services on freelance sites or find a legitimate agency to work with. Do the hard work yourself. Avoiding the hard work is what gives these "companies" the opportunity to take advantage of you. Stay away from sites that promise a bed of roses and throw out sketchy "clauses" or vague conditions instead of being upfront and transparent with you. You'll be better off.
Title says it all. Working with Lisi has always been a great experience and she has always helped our studio and client as much as possible and in a timely manner. My problem is the inconsistency of the talent knowledge of recording and acting versatility. I run the VO department for a game company and regularly hire voice actors from agencies local and abroad. The lack of recording knowledge that the actors have has sometimes forced me to miss client deadlines due to voices talent unbearable peaking audio deliveries. There doesn't seem to be a basic knowledge with all the actors which makes this service incredibly inconsistent. Some of the actors are also very inexperienced, which is why the service is so inexpensive, I understand, but being able to take direction is paramount in this field and sometimes talent falls painfully short. Professionalism on the actors part is also important and I have run into some situations where scripts were not printed in time for recording, forcing our studio and client to wait 15 - 20 min before recording. Nervousness to the point of apologizing more than acting. Tardiness to conference calls.
The staff, mainly Lisi, has been great at fielding better talent for our studio, but a lack of recording knowledge has been the hardest hurdle to overcome.
I joined this company after 45 years in the business in four different countries working for some of the biggest accounts in the world. I had retired, so I joined this part it with my money and all I do is get audition after audition for very low, pay and no results, I also don't know if they are using what I've done and just not paying me so I'm going to give them a bit more of a chance, but I'm going to insert a tone into all my recordings so that they cannot use what I've done, so far, my experience has not been very good There are other good sites out there where they actually check you out for the suitability for the VoiceOver job if that job actually exists in the first place so what I can tell you before you part with your money is Look Around and don't believe everything you read, including this review. In case I'm from another opposition VoiceOver company, but you can find me quite easily and I'm just a VoiceoverGuy like you in many thousands of others. This is what I wrote on Reddit, so you can see I'm trying to find out if they are responsive or is it all just run by computer that spits out jobs and all years AND takes out money
Hi Robert,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Even for those who have been in the voice over industry, it can take some time to be successful on Voices.
An essential part of being connected to the best job opportunities for your skills is filling out your profile completely and recording and uploading quality demos. Tagging your demos appropriately helps our matching system connect you with the right opportunities. Auditioning quickly, regularly, and for jobs you can do well is also important. Clients do not have any right to use your auditions for any purpose other than determining the best person to hire for their job. They must hire you, both of you accept a job agreement, and then the client accepts your final uploaded files. Those are the files the client can use.
We offer resources on the website and webinars to provide tips on auditioning and how to find success on Voices. Make sure to check out our Help and Resources pages for tips on creating quality demos, responding to jobs, and more. Our Support team is also always happy to help if you have questions (support@voices.com).
We encourage talent to diversify their income streams and offer Voices as one tool—there will be those who find it’s all they need and those who wish to use Voices in addition to other platforms or other opportunities they seek out on their own. Everything comes with a cost of money or time.
We’d love to speak to you one-on-one to see what we can do to improve your experience. If that is of interest to you, please reach out to talent@voices.com and Evan Wiebe would be pleased to chat with you and look at the types of jobs you’re seeing to ensure everything is operating as it should be.
We hope this helps! Wishing you all the best in your continuing voice over journey.
The site allows clients to bid down industry standard rates to pitiful amounts.
The site is also incredibly convoluted especially on the client side.
The customer service management is a joke.
Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We have recently updated our Voice Over Rate Sheet which is backed by data on actual buying patterns and behaviors to inform clients on industry rates, which can be found here: https://www.voices.com/rates. In addition, we encourage talent to submit quotes that are reflective of the value of their services, even if it is in excess of a client's budget. It is then up to the client to make an informed hiring decision, balancing the quality of the performance against their budgetary requirements.
We're sorry to hear you found the site to be convoluted and we'd like to hear more about your experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us at feedback@voices.com. We want to make sure your voice is heard as we continue to improve.
Cameron has been invaluable in getting me on the right track for VO success. Kind, patient and extremely helpful. I'm excited about my VO career and what is in store! Don't hesitate. Sign up with Voices.com today!
I was with voices back in 2008 & 9, then, went in another direction with my career/business. I just re-upped at the Premium level and within 2 weeks have made almost $2,000! These jobs would NOT have been on my radar screen if not for Voices.com. Michelle, Barb, Brooke and Shan (my personal rep), have been very helpful whenever I have had questions about a job, my studio/sound, the process... whatever. If you're just starting out, this is perfect for you... if you're an old pro like me (30 = years behind the mic), it's still a GREAT value and even if you already have an agent (I do), Voices is the best platform out there.
Cameron had a chat with me this morning and he was very helpful and understanding about my studio, suggesting I add a pop filter, and fine tuning a couple of things to help the quality of my recording really shine. While I can't configure a full-time dedicated studio, he was helpful in telling me what also could be done to ultimately, book jobs!
Thanks, Cameron!
Hi Howard,

Thanks again - we really appreciate it.
I'm just starting out with voice work, so the consultation with Cameron was a great jumping off point.
He answered what questions I had, provided real insight into things I can improve on my profile and tips for what I should do not only to keep get things rolling, but to keep the forward momentum.
His willingness to help is exactly what anyone needs when they're just beginning.
Hi Jim,
Thank you for the review! A consultation with our Talent Success Specialist is the perfect way to jumpstart your voice acting career and we're so glad you had such a positive experience filled with many insights! Thank you again for your review - we appreciate it!
I've been doing voice over professionally for more than 15 years and have used several online agencies. Without a doubt, voices.com is the best site available, particularly for new and part-time talent looking to break into the industry. I'm a big fan of the voice match function, the email notification system and the escrow payment program which protects talent from inexperienced or unscrupulous voice seekers. Voices.com customer service is top-notch and its resource library is unparalleled. I encourage all voice over artists to join voices.com and I assure you the cost of the premium subscription is absolutely worth access to so many great voice over jobs.
Had a wonderful conversation with Cameron yesterday! Can't believe I didn't call earlier for support. He and the rest of the voices.com team have been so kind and supportive. My conversation with Cameron gave me so much useful information, tips and skills to confidently move forward on this platform. So glad we were able to talk. Thank you!
I have had the opportunity to work with a number of the agents and customer service reps at Voices.com. Without exception, they have been the most pleasant and supportive group of voice industry professionals I've have the privilege to experience. I found them to work tirelessly to ensure the client's needs are met while clearly communicating those needs to me as the projects progressed. I always felt their support and their cheery sense of humor was welcome! Today, there are many choices for voice artists when it comes to getting work... and I am confident I made the best choice with Voices.com
I have been hoping to carve out a niche as a character voice actor as I feel this is where my strengths are. Recently, I auditioned for a job involving character voices for a children's educational video game and I landed the gig. Success! There were several parts to be voiced, including various monsters (not so scary ones!), a concerned father and a narrator. It was a great experience, lots of fun, I got to express my character acting skills and the client was very pleased with the results! Hoping for much more of the same in the future!
Whenever VO needs arise at my agency, the entire staff at Voices.com is there to help. Their speedy response time, access to a wide range of affordable voice talent, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done make finding voice talent not only easy, but enjoyable! Thanks Voices.com crew :)
Our company started using your service due to several studios closing in our area, also because of the lower competitive pricing options.
So far our experience has been nothing short of pleasant!
Ian Callander, one of Senior Management Reps, and Jennifer Mason, our Project Administrator, are always helpful and answers any question we had.
They walk us through the process and are attentive in tending to our needs and our clients needs.
We will definitely continue to use their services in the future!
I admit I was a bit skeptical going from in-studio recording with talent to shifting over to the voices.com model. But it's made us more productive and put a wealth of talent at our fingertips that we'd never have had access to.
Their team is very responsive and they go out of their way to make sure you're happy. They are my go to recording service and a true secret weapon for casting some amazing talent.
Voices.com has been an amazing springboard to the start of my voice over career. I knew I wanted to make the change from the dull, 9-5 workday to full-time voice acting, and Voices has helped tremendously. It's a great service to get your name/voice out in the industry and establish a solid client base for your career. Easily one of the best choices I've made in choosing a P2P site to start out with!
And the support staff is always on top of things, and ready to tackle any question or concern you may have. Specifically, Matt W., helped me on a few occasions with different issues, and he's always come through for me--he's a champ.
