I wish I could have got cut and clarity info, but It was done online, maybe that's why.
The customer service staff is incredibly helpful, and the following things are what I have some trouble with. The valuations, even with previous valuations, that were written up and signed my gemologist's and/or certified jewelers, they were low. They also seem to just have taken the information from those appraisals and put it back into the valuation, which is fine, had they also taken into account the valuation give at the time and that time has passed and that the value would go up. There is also a first page that has whatever first photo you provided and then gives you an auction value and an insurance value, which they are willing to work with you on, the insurance value that you want. The initial numbers seemed pretty low. It also does not break down the item value by stone. Previous appraisals give the cut, clarity, color, etc. of the diamonds and/or other stones, but no monetary value of today's market based on the factors given. Usually I am given a per carat amount. The last thing is that the valuation is quite long, as after the first page, it has a great deal of legal jargon, mostly stating that they can't be held responsible..., and you wouldn't want to turn that in to your insurance company, as they also are not signed. They say they are reviewed by a gemologist or certified jeweler, but they do not sign the valuations. I think that may be a problem with the insurance company, not their insurance company, but another third party. I am hoping with the initial appraisals it may work. They also have the name VMS, and not Barneby's across the top, which just to put more trust in something I believe Barneby's would instill a bit more confidence that Value My Stuff. They do have quite reasonable prices and I find that was nice. And their service is very fast, within 24-48 hours.

The value of jewellery drops significantly when entering the secondary market. Rather like a car, as soon as it leaves the shop it drops a lot in value. We provide auction estimates, which will always be lower than private sales values, but can of course be far exceeded during the right sale, on the right day.
Certified/signed appraisals are available from other providers, but at significantly greater cost than our fee. By keeping with non certified appraisals, we are able to adhere to our mission statement, 'Expertise for Everyone'.

It is very hard to understand what is what with the amounts. I have given previous appraisals done from when the items were purchased, and it seems as though they are just taking that information and repeating it, but giving no breakdown of the value of the stones. So an auction value low and high and an insurable value is very nice, but I would like to know the what and why that brings it to that point. How much is the gold worth? How much are the stones worth with their rated characteristics, were any spots found in the ring that were damaged, what would that cost to fix? And then the appraisals are not signed, so how am I supposed to go to my insurance company and hand them an appraisal where photos and previous appraisals were reviewed, but not tell them who and from where it was done?
