Bait & Switch Tactics, Unethical Practices
September 4, 2023

Spirit overcharged us for bag fees, and issued customers on our flight worthless and/or useless vouchers. Bag fee debacle - We knew in advance that if our bag was too large, for Spirit's standard size carry on ( the backpack size or less that can be carried on w/o a fee) we would have to pay a fee at the gate. Now this is about principle, more so than cost. Spirit sent a grid showing the price you would pay at the airport, if your bag was oversized for their carry on requirement. The most expensive price was listed at 89.00 dollars for one bag, for which we had only one. However we were charged 99.00 dollars. Spirit gave 100 reasons why they charged us more than the listed price we received in an email. I was told the gate agent could decide the fee… WHAT!? I was told the price could fluctuate based on where we were flying etc. etc… and each time I was given a link to their bag policy. I asked repeatedly why the link wasn't referenced in the price grid I received & nowhere in the price grid did it state anything regarding prices could fluctuate. It also showed at the top my my destination city, so the grid was specific for my flight.
Charging customers 10.00 or more above the listed price is this low fare airline's way of padding their pockets, little by little, customer after customer overcharged.
The bag issue was only the beginning of a nightmarish experience with this airline. Our flight was delayed 6 hrs. Gate agents were dismissive when we tried to get updates on our flight. We couldn't get any communication from Spirit, and to top it off, Spirit's way of compensating passengers for 6 hours of delay w/o communication or update, was by giving everyone a 7.00 food voucher that couldn't be used inflight, but had to be used in the airport, and the voucher expired 24 hours after receiving. We received the voucher as we were getting ready to board at 11pm CST. We arrived at our destination airport at 2am EST. Nothing or no shops were open, so the paltry voucher was worthless because it couldn't be used unless you were returning to the airport the next day. Useless! Oh and it gets better. After voicing a concern, Spirit issued a 50.00 voucher toward a future flight. You may think oh this is great! Wrong again. There is a caveat to this 50.00 voucher. You cannot apply the amount to the full amount of a flight. It only covers the flight price and you cannot apply any of the voucher toward taxes and fees which comprise the majority of the ticket price. Example, for a 77.00 airline ticket your voucher only covers the 19.00 flight fee (remember spirit flights are "cheap" so this is one way to dupe customers into believing Spirit is actually trying to do right by their customers) and you pay the remaining 58.00 for taxes and fees, and the remaining amount of the voucher is voided.
Spirit airlines is full of bait and switch and dupe the customer tactics. Spirit is not worth the time and hassle, and could use an overhaul in their customer relations department, gate agent reps, and their overall business model.

Tip for consumers:

Record your correspondence with anyone you speak with. Don’t accept what you receive as factual, go to the site and read the policies for yourself. Spirit doesn’t give you all the details, but they don’t tell you that in their correspondence.

You get what you pay for
April 26, 2022

Only chose this "airline" because I had a $200 credit from a previous cancelation due to Covid, so I figured I would give it a shot.
Chile…. The WORST mistake EVER.
My outgoing flight was expected to leave@ 8am, I arrived@ the airport@ 6:30, granted traffic was a mess…I can conceive that however, kiosk were not working properly, after happily accepted my $64 bag fee, I spent 10/mins trying to get my passport to scan, w/assistance. I was advised to go to the help desk or in my case the "helpless desk" spent another 10/mins in line to get checked in, just for the Rep to advise me that it is to late to board! & I would have to pay $100 rebooking fee AND get this…. Fly out the next day…. Which for me was a hell to the no as my vacation started Fri not Sat morning.
Since I was already at the airport I decided that if I'm going to pay anything additional that $100 would go a more reliable airline, so I booked on American leaving out same day@ 2PM for $270 (one way)….(had an amazing flight w/AA btw)…. Anyways…. Back to my story about "Soul Plane"=Spirit.
I called Spirit Customer Service: *******555 to request a refund for just spending $64 dollars bag fee at the kiosk that apparently don't scan passport but "humbly accepts baggage fees" & the huge inconvenience of not being able to board my flight. The Rep, did apologized about the inconvenience and applied a $81 credit towards my next flight or bags.
I Specifically asked for confirmation that my "departure flight back was still booked", the Rep once again apologize for the inconvenience and advised that I was good to go.
Long story short I'm in Cancun living my best life and "true to form" Spirit=Soul Plane, completely abandon me in Cancun by canceling my departure flight.
The thing that's most unsettling I never received a email, text, IOU letter, Pigeon mail, NOTHING…
I had to pay another $588(one way) on Southwest (also an amazing flight). Tragic.
This is not a review This is a PSA: this "airline" is
I wouldn't fly on spirt even if Micheal B Jordan was the pilot & Beyonce was the flight attendant.
I would rather fold a paper airplane and throw it in the air before I step foot on Soul Plane= Spirit EVER AGAIN!
This "Airline" is the absolute WORST!

WORST AIRLINES EVER!
April 15, 2021

Don't let this airlines cheap fares fool you, they are horrible! You have to pay for everything I'm surprised they don't charge to breathe on the plane. They charge for bags to go under plane, then your carry on has to be the size of a purse, they charge you to choose your seating so if you are with people or another person they can separate you which they did to me and my husband. The seats on the plane are horribly uncomfortable you're crammed i, the seats don't recline there is no foot room its like sitting on hard wooden park bench for hours on end. They say the plane was cleaned but when i got on there was hair grease on the back of my head rest also the window had smudges. So our flight was to leave March 15th 2021at 8:28pm, as my husband and are on our way to the airport they called telling us the flight had been cancelled, so asked then to accommodate us with an extra stay at the hotel we stayed at because we had no where to sleep and we also rented a car and of course they said it was not there problems and hung up the phone on me many times after me calling them back and asking them to do a little better then just hanging up they caught an attitude with because i asked them to help out little more, like for me to speak to a manager and she said to me that she was the manager i couldn't believe she was a manger and treating customers that way. There was nothing else i could do we were stranded so my husband and i had to dig into our savings to pay for all the extra things we had to pay for, after this horrible experience and taking this horrible airlines to see my sick brother i was just overwhelmed. Ever since we have been back I've ben trying to get in touch with someone to see if i can get so funds back but nothing has been done because everyday i am on hold for hours and hours on end I'm just so fed up i don't know what else to do. THIS AIRLINE IS GHETTO I WILL NEVER TAKE IT AGAIN I RATHER DRIVE. After i took this airline and told family and friends about it they said to you should've told me what airlines you were taking i would've warned you not. SMH
