Before you pay anything to software4students this was our experience.
I would NOT recommend this firm to anyone.
Over two weeks after paying for our software the telephone helpline is still not operating.
With the message 'upgrading our phone lines' at the busiest time of the academic year for support - the phone service still does not operate.
The email service takes days to come back with any reply.
As our daughter needed the software to work as soon as she got to university to access timetable information. As no telephone help was available and very slow email response we bought another set of software from another firm which did work.
And by the way - even though we are unable to access the software we have paid for - ANY REFUND HAS BEEN REFUSED.
I purchased a Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 suite from S4S in Jan 2012 for my daughters brand new HP Touchsmart 520. Installed it - it all went well - until a manufacturing fault in the HP 520 (only then 3 months old) meant I had to have a replacement hard drive for the computer. So same computer, new hard drive - the Product Key would not activate, and Software4Students refused to give me a new product key under these circumstances. Sharp practice or what - I mean come on fellas - ever heard of good customer service? I guess not! Won't be using this bunch of cowboys ever again and I would suggest you don't either
I have downloaded 3 packages from this company. They all failed to download on my win 7 desktop, but all downloaded ok onto my laptop win7. Not sure why, and I have asked them today what it is that makes the download fail on some machines. If I get a response I'll post it
I've had a similar experience to others from this site. Bought Office 2010 and put it on my old computer whilst waiting for a new one to arrive. Thought there would be no problem with this since there is a load of stuff on the net about transferring Office from one computer to another.
However, when my new computer arrived and I tried to transfer I couldn't get another download in order to do so.I emailed to ask how to do it and received no response. Spent more than an hour on the phone waiting for someone to answer only to be told that it's not transferrable.
So I've had 2 weeks use out of it. There attitude was basically tough. Microsoft allows you to transfer but we don't. Apparently it's on their website somewhere but I didn't see it. If I'd known I would have waited a couple of weeks for my new PC to arrive.
What a total waste of money! They obviously get complaints about this a lot since, before I even finished stating my case, they immediately offered to show me where on the website the small print was.
Big mistake thinking I was going to save some money.
When purchasing the offer price on Microsoft Professional Plus, I assumed that when buying it, it'll actually work and that I'll be able to buy and download straight away as I needed the software asap.
I WAS WRONG!!
This company took my money, sent me a link that is not compatible with my operating system (WINDOWS VISTA) and when I requested a refund, they denied my refund request because I purchased the software to download not a CD. Any support or complaints that were put through was not helping me at all, because the software still and won't work!
If the download worked, why would I ask for a refund!!!
I feel cheated when I purchased from them, I feel that it is FRAUD!! They advertised cheap prices to get customers to buy but in result they don't actually give you the product your after.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE, A WARNING TO ALL CUSTOMER, DON'T PURCHASE FROM THEM, DO IT THE OLD FASHION WAY AND BUY FROM STORE'S!!
SOFTWARE4STUDENTS, A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!
This web site promotes and advertises that it supplies all brands of software to the academic community. However it heavily targets Students on limited budgets who are told they can pick up any software a a fraction of the price due to this site's Volume Licensing Supply Agreement with Microsoft etc. This is true. However all students Beware! All Microsoft products sold on this site are are not supported Free of Charge by Microsoft as you will get with the normal Retail Version. Microsoft will charge you for supporting this Student Version only on a per incident cost basis, equating to nearly £50.00 per incident. If your software goes wrong and you need help to fix it this is what Microsoft will charge you. This is approximately the cost of the software itself and is beyond the financial means of the average student. This is not made clear on the Software 4Students Web site and as such is Mis-Licensing by them. All complaints should be directed towards Microsoft Customer Services as well as Software4Students who appear to be deliberately misleading students for profit.
