Despite these concerns, some customers appreciate the platform's diverse image selection and filtering capabilities, which enhance user experience. Overall, the feedback highlights a troubling disconnect between customer expectations and the company's service approach, suggesting a need for improved transparency and customer support to regain trust.

I thought I was signing up for a trail and accidentally signed up for an annual monthly subscription. When I contacted Customer Service to let them know, they told me that I had to pay $60 to cancel, even though I had missed my downloads for a month and had only used on month of downloads. The only reason I even knew I had an account was that I went into the details of my credit card statement. I wonder how many people have subscriptions and are paying for nothing. They definitely know how to make money. Will be looking for more civilized alternatives in the future.
They make it hard to cancel and then watch for the recurring billing you cant turn off yourself. There are signs of a company that doesn't care about their customers. I'll never resubscribe
Simply very regret the purchase and did get double charged at the purchase. Have to dispute from card company.
DO NOT give them any money. They make you pay to download image then tell you you cant use it unless you pay $10,000! Or more

I bought one photo in April and found out that I have been locked into a year subscription after that. Have been billed monthly. Been trying to get hold of them via live chat but no luck. Have send several messages in the last hour no reply.
I've used Shutterstock for years and have made great use of it.
I recently canceled because I've left the website I was using the service for. I called customer service into the fifth month of my yearly 350 plan (auto-renew) to cancel and they did so with no hassles and no future payments.
Heard a lot of horror stories here, but maybe they've changed their service re canceling.
Would recommend.
I found an image on Shutterstock that I liked and selected the button for "Royalty Free" download. And was taken to the page to select how many images I wanted to PURCHASE. I liked the image and decided to go ahead with the purchase. An online chat window opened up and the assistant told me the least number of images I could purchase was two, for $29. I decided to still move forward even though I only wanted one image. Then I explained what I was doing with the image - including in a silkscreen to go on a T-shirt for a group of walkers in a walk to raise money to fight ALS (my Father has ALS) and was told I would also need to purchase an enhanced license for $199! Incredulous, I made sure the agent knew I was raising money to fight ALS and was told it didn't matter, I had to pay the enhanced license fee. No. No, I won't pay Shutterstock $199 to line their pockets. That money will go direct to the ALS Foundation instead. Shame on you, Shutterstock!
I spent hours looking for footage for my upcoming project, I check how can I use the video that I was buying with the license that they offer and I was good to go. Just as a precaution I call them to double check that I was able to use the videos and to my surprise they told me I can't use it and they don't have an option to buy another license to use this footage so I wasted a lot of money because they don't give you any refund after you download the file. Don't waste your money!
Just got "auto billed" for an annual "subscription" that I don't recall signing up for. The chat support says that I'll be getting a refund. I trust that I will. When questioned about it she told me that Shutterstock is a "subscription" business like Netflix and therefore auto billing is automatic and must be de-selected during checkout. I don't recall this option. If it was there, it was not obvious. This used to be called "negative option" and was illegal, might still be, in the U.S. They have likely figured out a way around this with small print or something.
Regardless, beware. There are other affordable and trustworthy options. I license a lot thru http://www.123rf.com/
I just wanted to update everyone about my on going issues with the worst company in the world that is New York based Shutterstock. Despite continuing complaining received a telephone call from a person called 'Henderson' who has to be one of the bonkers person I have ever spoken to. He promised the world but as usual lied through his teeth. It's clear that this idiotic organisation persists in telling even more lies to suit the owner of this shambolic business. I even sent the owner Jon Oringer a letter on the 3rd September and I'm still awaiting for a reply. So its simple lie, lie and lie again and when you report the staff of being idiots the billionaire owner could careless about the complaint as all be wants is your hard earned cash. What a sham!
Their site will make you believe that you can cancel anytime, but NO. You either have to keep renewing your plan or pay the cancelation fee. Their customer service reps are not helpful at all, I feel like they are trained to sam people as well. STAY AWAY!
Shutterstock was good. At least until the stupid new update which created shutterstock editor pro. It restricts the amount of custom presets allowed and forces its watermark on your ORIGINAL creation. How greedy can you get? Your stupid prices for a single royal-free image not working out? Maybe try to lower the damn price! Would not recommend the shutterstock editor at all now. How disappointing.
Before I signed up, I was talking to a representative in "Live Chat". They assured me I could cancel any time. Which is true, but they don't tell you it's $60 to cancel, because they lock you into a 1-year contract. I do NOT remember anything anywhere, telling me I was committed to a year contract. I'm going to the BBB and whoever else might be able to help. Avoid this company like the plague.
They rip you off on the first month $5 off coupon and tie you for the whole year even you don't like their service. Also their website has been ON auto renewal, there's no way for you to turn off the auto renewal. You are forced to call them in the last day of the yearly contract in order to request turn off this auto renewal. Crazy! Whey we cannot turn it off on the website? They are scam and bad service. I won't use it anymore in my life.
They auto-renewed my subscription without prior notification and when I contacted customer service they would not reverse the charges despite the fact that I was not using the account and they had not asked permission. Unethical.
Worst customer service ever! They are not flexible at all. It seems to me that they don't care at all about their customers! Definitely wont purchase from them again.
They're basically thief. I purchased the 5-image plan for 49$, but when I click on the "Download" button on any images it just takes me back to the "Purchase plan" screen. Have been trying to get in touch with customer support for 1 month with no success. Now I'm trying to block the payment from going through from my bank.
Accidentally purchased 4k instead of the needed HD clips, plus a few duplicate clips due to a very sluggish website. Immediately called to correct. After hours of time spent on the phone, they were only able to refund a third of the amount lost. Was pushed around and lied to. Out $559.00 in the end. Not worth anyone's time when there are far better stock sites out there to begin with.
Answer: It's the delta between normal monthly rate & discounted rate (based on year subscription) x the number of months into the subscription. Example: $50/month standard rate $30/month yearly subscription 9 months of usage $50 - $30 = $20 x 9 months = $180 for early termination.
