I am a DIY investor, a researcher, and consumer of a vast amount of investment info. Seeking Alpha popped up as a resource. I read a few articles and was flagged that subscription was required to continue. I don't object to this. What I find deceitful and harassing is to get several emails a day teasing the title of an article in Seeking Alpha. When I click on it, there's the title and link to subscribe to have access to the article. This is an unacceptable business practice. I will never become a Seeking Alpha subscriber because of this. There are many alternative investment resources far more ethical than this.

Seeking Alpha sources ticker quotes from a IEX (our data vendor). We have 2 levels of service agreement with our vendor:
1. Realtime Quotes - Quotes for tickers that trade on the IEX exchange are delivered in real-time, they are usually frequently traded securities Ex. AAPL, MSFT etc. The system allows 15-minutes as a grace period for real-time quotes i. E. the system displays the label as 'IEX real time price' if the time difference between 2 quotes is less than 15 minutes.
2. Delayed Quotes: Quotes for thinly traded securities are delivered in delayed form i. E. stocks for which no trade has happened on the IEX exchange in the last 15 minutes. In such cases, the most recent quote from another exchange is displayed with a '15-minute delayed price' label.
Both the real-time and Delayed labels are displayed on the symbol page, respectively.
Also, Aftermarket quotes are delayed by 15-minutes

Despite sending an email early this year requesting not to renew my subscription, Seeking Alpha renewed my subscription without any notice prior to or on the renewal date. Their policy only allows 24 hours to cancel a renewal. I have never seen an investment service with such unethical rules. They refuse to make any concession or even a partial refund. An outright unprofessional and dishonest business. AVOID THEM.

A few months ago I took out a 14 day free trial subscription. I cancelled it on the 9th day. I have been billed for the last two months. When I attempted to call I was on hold for 30 minutes before giving up and leaving a message. I have not heard back from them. I have not had this sort of problem with any other investment subscription.

The articles range from poor to excellent, far more good ones than bad though. The comments likewise, but the whole stew is a big plus for my investing. As you may be aware that credit card charges do not materialize before becoming a part of your monthly statement, the charges may have appeared on your card a month or 2 following and now due for payment. You may also contact your credit card provider to check the original transaction date of the charges in question.

Seeking Alpha is an invaluable tool for trading. Information is able to be organized in an easy to read graph format and sorted as desired. The rating system is very helpful. I read many of the contributors articles and gain lots of insight and often good ideas of stocks to watch. I also enjoy reading the comments made on the articles and often gain further insight into a stock, being often surprised at what the other members know about a company or their management, or critiquing the author. The ease of finding dividend dates and sorting by that date to take advantage of upcoming dividends is simple, as is the history of the dividends and measured safety. Finding earnings reports due is right at your fingertips. How companies compare to its peers is an added layer for additional research and judegement. I often find that the newsfeed is more up to date than at my broker, or my cell phone app. I wouldn't want to trade without it.

It's too early to tell. I've been sticking my toes in the water since mid-May. How to evaluate the different analyses: Authors, Wall St. And Quant. I would like to think that Quant is the most reliable on average, but remains to be seen. Upgrades and downgrades happen quite quickly from day to day and I'm not willing to be glued to my screen. Still, my portfolio has been in positive territory-- 5%-10%. ATOS was a disappointment, but we'll see what happens.
