I purchased a Victorian 18k bracelet from one of the dealers on Ruby Lane. When I received it, I sadly discovered that it was totally misrepresented on Ruby Lane - not the size listed (did not even fit my wrist), plus had a large dark silver area on it which appeared to be an old repair. I contacted the dealer to return with insurance USPS priority mail. Upon receipt, the dealer falsely claimed damage in shipment - how I know is the somewhat blurry pictures of the old repair among other defects in the bracelet which I received. The unscrupulous dealer has the bracelet and is refusing to issue me a refund. He instead, wants me to file a fraudulent claim with USPS - I refuse to do that! I will not be a part of mail fraud. Ruby Lane quit contacting me when I stated I will not be a part of fraud, therefore, they are nothing but accomplices to nefarious dealers on their website.

Nightmare purchase
July 1, 2020

I purchased a Rolex watch that arrived broken. The seller blamed it on the shipper. However, after taking it to the top high end watch repair company in my city, they informed me that it was the (undisclosed in the listing) after-market adjustments made to the watch that were the reason for it not working. The watch was sold to me claiming that it was fully inspected and serviced prior to shipping. The date that the watch was stuck on told otherwise, meaning it wasn't working before they shipped it. It took over 6 months of fighting to resolve and Ruby Lane refused any help or take responsibility. It's between you and the seller and when the seller has proven unethical business practices, Ruby Lane will not take action against them. So they do not care if the sellers on their website are legitimate or not, they just want their cut from the sale. Whilst Ruby Lane is a platform for private sellers and not the seller themselves, they do nothing to vet or monitor proven unethical sellers, they are willfully complicit.

Most of the time my shopping experiences there have been great- but that's only because of the sellers I buy from. The site itself and the people who run it however- are just horrible people. They are very rude and unprofessional. I really do think that the site is just run by some weirdo in his garage. The platform is very outdated, like IBM designed it in the 80's. It's clunky and prone to errors. They treat their dealers very poorly- and now charge fees for the privilege of shopping on their site- have you ever heard of having to pay an extra buyer fee? The sellers don't have it any better- they pay a lot just to have a shop- needs to pay extra for "marketing"- and now are being charged almost as much as ebay charges for a final value fee. You can find most of the same items from the same sellers on Ebay and Etsy- at better prices so it makes no sense to keep shopping on this stupid site. They literally shut down for several days to "upgrade" their site. Nothing changed, it didn't get better- but suddenly when you check out you get hit with fees. I would have given it 4 or 5 stars for the sellers- but I will just buy from them on other sites from now on. Btw- they put it on the buyer to purchase shipping insurance.

I have had a shop on Rubylane for 10 years. I realize changes are inevitable, however, I have been disappointed with some recent shop fee charges. On the service fees page under account, it states that there is a 6.7% on the total cost of item(s) sold. I was curious about that, so, I sent an email inquiring. I received a reply that this also includes a service fee of 6.7% on the shipping and insurance. This is WRONG! Shipping and insurance is not a profit for shops. It is what the post office charges to ship and insure a sold item. To charge 6.7% on the cost of shipping and insurance is WRONG. If the company insists on this practice then they need to explain that the TOTAL COST includes a 6.7% service fee not only on the item sold but also a 6.7% service fee on shipping and insurance. Lay it ALL out for your Rubylane Sellers.

I called this antiques shop, Green Country Estates, a Ruby Lane vendor in Tulsa to ask about purchasing some Waterford crystal glasses to replace some from a vintage 1970s set. This merchant, Ms. Kelley, was so well informed about the provenance of her merchandise that she was able to help me ascertain that the ones in her shop had been blown at approximately the same time as mine, which is important in hand blown glass, as each artisan has a slightly different technique. The glasses arrived promptly and no breakage They were a good match for mine. I would purchase from her any time

I highly recommend Ruby Lane if you have a passion for vintage jewelry. It was an absolute joy shopping on this site. The shipping was fast and I even received a hand written note. I cannot say enough good things about rubylane.com.

I am torn about giving RL even three stars because I think their web platform can be misleading (the way the automatic counteroffers work can be wonky), and because when I have complained to RL about problems I've experienced, their customer service department has been rude and dismissive. However, I have purchased several high-quality pieces of jewelry from one long-term seller on RL, and I am quite pleased with them. The seller is easy to work with, the jewelry is as described and shown, and the seller even adjusted the price of something down when I had second thoughts about the purchase. I think that RL suffers from not being choosy enough about who sells on the site. I agree with the other reviewer who says it can look like a junky garage sale. But there is at least one really great jewelry seller on there, who gets repeat business from me and (if you trust the transaction reviews) other buyers. Just be careful who you deal with.

Two years experience w/ that was quite successful. After just starting to know EBay, stunned to find standards horrible low, coast sneaky high, they hide 1-10% costs until to late. Rl golden in comparison. They police sell vigulantly, respect their ethics-walk the talk.

An aside, dislike new ascetic format, looks hooky, now former elegance.

A vintage tapestry was falsely marketed by Butler & Butler Gallery on RubyLane as an original work by the famous artist Man Ray.

In February 2012, I purchased a Vintage French Mid-Century Moderne tapestry entitled "Oiseaux Lyre" from Butler & Butler Gallery on RubyLane (www.rubylane.com/shop/collectorsdelights). It was falsely represented and marketed as an original work by Man Ray (born Emmanuel Radnitzky, August 27,1890 November 18,1976).

In October 2014, during an insurance appraisal, it was confirmed by the manufacturer to be an original work by the French artist Michelle Ray (b. 1933). I presented all of the research documents from the investigation to the proprietor, Sandra Butler. She refused to provide me with the tapestry's provenance and declined the return/refund of the merchandise.

Internet fraud is prevalent. Buyer beware!

I have successfully sold on eBay since 1998 and decided to try Ruby Lane. WHAT A MISTAKE! I paid them $100.00 for a "start up fee" on November 24,2019. I listed 10 items and answered their questions and filled out everything. I waited. AND WAITED! I requested to open my shop and every time I checked it was "in review."

Today, I discovered that they had a message about me needing to FUND my account before they could open my shop! But I already paid them!

I tried calling, using e-mail, and there was NO REPLY and NO RESPONSE!

Ruby Lane is a fraud and I just hope I can recoup my money!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! NO GOOD!

Buyer Beware
August 1, 2019

In 2015 I bought jewelry which was marketed and being sold as Christian Dior. As I was living in China at the time I had the jewelry shipped to my mother's address in Australia however when I arrived back to Australia I found that the said jewelry was not Christian Dior but was in fact clearly stamped and marked Swarovski and Monet. I took the jewelry to a jewelry and got a authorized report stating what the jewelry stamping actually was the sent that to the seller requesting a refund based on false advertising. The seller denied me a refund was extremely rude and Ruby Lane customer service was absolutely no help but stood by the seller. I trusted that seller the jewelry was advertised as Dior, I bought it believing it was Dior and Dior was what I wanted, very disappointed more so with experience of the sellers rudeness.

Ruby Lane does it right.

I am a seller of antique furniture on Ruby Lane and have been for the last nine years. It took a while for me to understand how the Internet works when selling. But all the information needed is available in their help section.

I have sold many items on Ruby Lane. They have been very helpful, and respectful when I had a problem. I was in no way debased At any time. The staff has always been helpful, understanding, and respectful.

Just recently I discovered they had a shop mentor assistance. I sent an email requesting this free service. My email was answered in 24 hours. Within a week or 10 days I had a very explicit and to the point email from the shop mentor explaining to me what I could do to better display my items and what I could do to promote sales. For the money I spend each month for about 150 items I could not get better exposure or advertising anywhere else. The more items you add the more hits you seem to get on your page. I dont know why. But I was told to do it and it works.

I had been selling on Ruby Lane for over 10 years and recently challenged some of their practices, fees and general customer service. They do not like to be challenged, which made me wonder if many of the reviews about their shady practices have been correct. I wrote that in light of the pandemic, the monthly charges were causing a financial strain. Truth. $85.10 per month for just over 100 items (and that doesn't include listing fees) is a lot - even more so when sales are down. Their response was, "You have not been honoring the agreement to list exclusively on RL. Instead, since at let June of 2017, your merchandise has been advertised also in the Etsy store." If you do your research, you will find that most RL sellers do not sell exclusively on RL. Nobody would make any money! Etsy and ebay are so much more equitable! Etsy has a much larger customer base, advertises, allows you to post coupons (which return buyers love), has better shipping options, doesn't make you deal with Paypal (which is an additional fee) and has more traffic. Ebay is easy, reliable and has tons of buyers. RL wrote, "Even while suggesting to us special consideration should be given to your Ruby Lane shop account because, "COVID has caused unforeseen difficulties", you continue to run other online business portals under the same conditions." How can they make a comparison? RL charges a ridiculous monthly fee. Etsy and ebay only take a percentage of your sales. It costs hardly anything to list. Not to mention, their tone is both rude and insensitive. I have given them so much money and I regret it. Take it from a long time seller, it isn't worth it! You'll spend more money than it's worth. Look elsewhere!

I sent considerable time, money (having professional pictures taken) and listed the minimum 10 Items as their required, only to get a sarcastic note to correct spelling errors (which was bull) and having to Use Better Quality Pictures...(they where good enough for Sotheby's) as I just spend 90 minutes attempting to correct the issues... I sent them an Email to explain more specifically what where the issues... 20 Minutes later I got a Notification that all the pictures, descriptions had been erased from MY Site. NO EXPLAINATION, NOTHING.

UNLESS YOU LIKE TO "WASTE YOUR TIME" Use 1st Dibs, Ebay, OfferUp. BUT DO NOT WASTE YOUR VALUABLE TIME TRYING TO LIST WITH "RUBYLANE". Now if You enjoy flying United Airlines and their Service then RubyLane is for You

I have been a reseller for over 40 years and own a brick and mortar for almost 30. This site canned me after I worked days putting together a shop on their site, stating that my photos and descriptions were not good enough, and outright banning my listings for insufficient descriptions. I'm guessing that live and learn is what's needed here. Okay, I have learned that this site is outdated and not forward thinking. It's time for Ruby to shutter.
