The leadership is running a leftist agenda instead of promoting fiber interest. They appear to have waited until they seem to have a monopoly on their market and are making a political statement.
Ravelry is doing exactly the right thing. I stand behind them 100 percent. The variety of patterns is wonderful and it is awesome knowing that they are being hosted by a site that takes a stand.
No matter how obscure the fiber art you're learning is, ravelry will have people who know how to do it. The pattern and yarn databases are incredibly helpful and the forums are full of great people.
I enjoy looking for and saving crochet patterns. This site makes it super easy to do both and more. I sometimes just scroll to find ideas for new projects..
I use Ravelry for all my yarn research. The site is easy to access with tons of information. It allows me to find similar yarn when I cannot find what I am looking for.
Ravelry is an amazing site for fiber artists (knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving etc.). It has an encyclopedic database of patterns, yarns, and projects allowing you to scope out your next project, and find out if the pattern does what it says it does, needs a specific yarn, or looks really cool with a new modification. They have a unique community structure that allows people to form their own little sub-communities to connect with folks, and I have met some of the most lovely supportive people this way. There was a time I would have lost Everything I owned, if not for a generous member I met through Ravelry offering to hold my things while I was homeless.
The site designers have always been huge on inclusivity and making people feel welcome, and have lately taken a stance on mentions of Trump reflecting that. Overall they have had a hands-off policy with very few overarching limits, but they feel, and I agree, that this was necessary to maintain the safe community they have built. Sadly, they're dealing with some insane backlash.
TLDR: Ravelry is literally the best social network I have ever interacted with, in terms of User Interface, Community, and Functionality--AND it has a phenomenal database to boot!
If you're a socialist dem, you'll feel right at home! But for those who are white, stay far far away. You're included IF you say all the right things and lean the right way.
Ravelry and the people who run this site are fully involved with it. From answering questions, to helping people out. The entire site is geared towards helping.
Ravelry has been a great website for me for many years. I have great friends and I love buying patterns and being able to save them on the site.
What a great place.
I love Ravelry.com! It's an amazing trove of patterns and knowledge. The community is amazing, helpful, and kind. It's my #1 go to when I want to start a project.
One of the best databases and websites I have had the pleasure to use! Forums are very helpful and I have learned a lot because members a graciously willing to share their time and knowledge.
Ravelry is free, functional, and easy to use. No one else is providing this type of service for yarn-artists, especially not for free. We are lucky to have the service and community they have built.
All my patterns in one place, I can keep track of my yarn, my projects, and the forums can help you with any question you have! The site runners are amazing and fun, and are very responsive.
Fabulous site. The best site. A site that rejects hate speech can only be a good thing. Those that are complaining they've been seen for what they are - bigots.
The recent comments by Ravelry and policy changes are a welcome message to the crafting community. Crafting should always be a bastion from hate and a beacon of goodness.
Great place for all fiber arts! Patterns, great people, great site runners. Groups for many different interests, businesses and locations. Very inclusive.
As a long-time knitter, I am happy that there is a site like Ravelry that can meet all of my needs. I am also very proud of their inclusion of all minority's policy.
I love Ravelry. I get all my shawl patterns there and I knit many. Love the ideas of what yarn to use and getting advice from the designers. Thanks Ravelry!
Most patterns are not done by "accomplished professions" Patterns are not written clear and charts look like a personal drawing more than professional charts.
Ravelry is the best site for all things fibre and fibre craft related, including yarn sales, and a vast selection of patterns. Best of all, Trump and Nazi free.
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
Ravelry has a rating of 3.1 stars from 510 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally satisfied with their purchases. Reviewers satisfied with Ravelry most frequently mention fiber arts, white supremacy and social media. Ravelry ranks 1st among Yarns sites.
