Quill goes far beyond simple grammar lessons. Quill allows my students to write thoughtfully and completely. The knowledge that they gain allows them to become the writers I know they can be. If you are looking for a revising and editing tool, you found it! If you are also looking for a guide to better writing and motivation your students need to feel like actual writers, this is also the tool for you!
I don't need to know how to address the president, or how to use pronouns. Quill shouldn't be used in classrooms! Kids agree and it sucks when I have an F because of it. I say no more quill, I'd rather use real life tools instead of quill. Honestly if you think its a good thing in your class think again, your kids will despise you for it and you should rather use something other than quill.

The site
Quill.org is horrible, you have to rewrite the entire sentence just to change one thing but you just copy the sentence and then forget you have to change anything and then you get it wrong. Also when you don't put a period, you get the entire thing wrong. It is literally just a worse no red ink, if I could give negative stars, I would.
Quill will mark you down for the tiniest mistakes. If you make 1 spelling mistake, then you get it wrong. I am a student and I want to get a 100%, so I have to keep going back, and back. It is really not fun and really angers students. It gives us anxiety and can be way too time consuming. I am a fifth grader and I would definitely not recommend these to assign to students like me. Never, never, never use it!
Tip for consumers:
I would never, could never, or ever recommend it.

It is a website, that is terrible!
I am a student and I feel that the assignments are really long and can be confusing most of the time it is hard to complete and I don't really learn anything.

I have Grammarly and I forgot to turn it off when I went to Quill. GRAMMARLY COUNTED MY RESPONSE WRONG AND THE QUILL SAID IT WAS CORRECT! I would never recommend this. It teaches students to write under VERY strict rules and not go for originality. That is all.
Tip for consumers:
Teachers still make you do it. It's really annoying.

The app :O
I have been using Quill for three months with my virtual 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. I use the free version only, and I am able to assign diagnostics that place students where they are in terms of grammar skills. My students are all virtual, and this program has helped them improve their overall grammar. Even parents have shared that they see improvements in their students' writing skills.
The only negative I have is that the website can be somewhat confusing in terms of which data to find where and how. Given that I only use the free version, I'm not able to access some data, but the data I do have access to is very valuable. It took a while for me to easily navigate the platform because there's so much to view and use.
Let me start off that Quill is terrible. To all the teachers making your class or planning to make your class do this, don't. Quill is so picky about word choices. If you don't get EXACTLY what is on the answer choices you are marked WRONG. To add insult to injury when students make a mistake it puts in no effort to help students correct their mistake, it just tells them that it is wrong and gives the most incomprehensible, and short examples. Please don't make your students do this. It is one of the most lackluster sites that won't teach your students to punctuate better and teach them to not use a variety of words in their punctuation. In conclusion, please don't ever assign Quill to your students to get better at grammar, there are a bunch of more sites that do more than Quill could ever do to help a student perfect their grammar.
For a free platform which requires actual typing it's definitely worthwhile. Helped me assess some skills with my students and I didn't have to grade.
Will makes you do any thing but learn its horrible it marks you down for the littlest things ever just horrible.

Horrible
It's a good site, just is a little glitchy. I learned a lot from it. I recommend it. If they did a little more work on it, it would easily have five stars.
Easy and quick diagnostics for each of my 150+ English students. From English Language Learners to Honors, my students are able to get the lessons they need at their level. Also, it is easy for teachers to track lesson completion. There are also resources and lessons for teachers to do small groups, have a 1:1 session with a student or even address a grammar deficit with the whole class!
Students begin the semester with a diagnostic and work through lessons each week. I work with small groups or one on one with students on the previous week's practice. Students also work together reviewing their strengths and weakness. I really loved the new reading and writing with supporting evidence--especially the feedback provided within each assignment.
Differentiated instruction at its finest, for free! Most one-star reviews look like bitter students. I love the instant diagnostic and assignment tools.
I think this is geared more towards teachers and traditional classroom setting because they have a lot of data tools that would be super useful in that setting. However, we've been trying it out for homeschooling and I think it's a great program.
