I advise all parents of young kids to avoid this site at all cost, I happened to stumble on a You-Tube video yesterday featuring a couple using this site and found the video to be quite unnerving, not to mention the site is trojan horse ridden as well, my antivirus warned me when I tried to visit the site, also I haven't heard of this until yesterday afternoon, as for the video I spotted it is nothing short of vile disgusting content.
The ooVoo website promotes the download of the ooVoo social application for phone, PC or Mac.
The site itself looks professional but the application is dangerous if used by children or teenagers who are not fully aware of how to secure they profile.
There have been a number of reported cases regarding Paedophiles using the application to target vulnerable children - one example reported here:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/oovoo-parents-claim-paedophiles-using-*******
Our daughter was sent friend requests from men whose profile pictures showed full and erect frontal male nudity.
Closing down an account is not possible - the knowledge base simply advises you to change your display name, remove your profile picture and make yourself unsearchable in the privacy settings.
The site has a support function for reporting abuse but it clearly isn't monitored regular as responses are provided slowly and are not much help.
Bottom line is, if you have children who use tablets or smart phones, check whether they use ooVoo and take action to monitor their contact list / secure their privacy setting - or better still, remove the application.
I like ooVoo. I use it to talk with my friends and family. It's Free and easy to use.
