“WHY CAN'T GIVE NO STARS TO THE WORST OF THE WORST”

JEFFREY P.
2/7/23

LG is the absolute worst of the worst. I would say that the Owner's Manuals for LG TVs and sound bars were written by a chimpanzee, but chimpanzees are much more intelligent than whoever wrote the Owner's Manuals. To make matters worse, LG technical assistance personnel do not have a clue vis-a-vis the operation on their TVs and sound bars. Among other problems, the subwoofer does not work and it is impossible to set the tone adjustments. In sum this is a piece of unadulterated garbage. While I do not consider myself to be a techie, I am not new to tech. My entire home is automated. All of my light bulbs, outlets, switches, door locks, HVAC functions, garage doors, etc., are wifi. And yet the LG TV and sound bar are completely elusive. In sum, I cannot even begin to find words that would convey my extreme disappointment with LG. Whatever you might do, don't buy a LG product.

We bought this LG 55 'OLED TV, so it's just a little over a year. It just LOUDLY exploded while watching it about 3 weeks ago, shot out white sparks about 12' from the bottom left part of the screen and died a swift death. A Year Guarantee? That should be the first hint one has to have. If LG can offer a 1 year warranty on a TV that costs US dollars THIS MUCH ($1749. 99) then BEWARE Folks. The guarantee has doubled since we purchased it from Costco, so we are still safe.

I bought an LG OLED 4K UHD 65" TV about a year ago. It's phenomenal, highly advanced and considered the best in its class. It's expensive but redefines what you look at. It offers deeper blacks which improve definition and picture quality. This upscales some of the oldest movies to look their very best and watching this TV is truly amazing. It's more expensive than most at about $1700 to $1900, but it's updated often with the latest firmware, and does cool things like refreshing the pixels. It uses the latest protocols such as HDMI eARC to simplify communication between similarly enabled devices. There are work arounds, like optical cables, for older components. So, the TV is a solid winner.
For those that find technology overwhelming, you need good manufacturer support unless you want to do a lot of research into how all the settings and all things work. It can be confusing and time consuming to go it alone or rely on a lengthy user manual. LG Support is really important at times.
If you're spending this much money, you're going to want a home entertainment system to enjoy phenomenal surround sound such as Dolby ATMOS to simulate a theater experience. This is where things with LG Support can get dicey. LG might tell you that they can't possibly guide you with all these other components if you use non-LG brands, and they have a point. But there is no reason to not have a quick reference guide listing major manufacturers, their more recent models and what type of communication protocols they have. That would help them advise what you might have to do to make life a lot easier. This applies to LG and any other brand. But keep in mind, if you're paying a lot of money, you deserve premium support. It's up to LG to make that possible even if it means developing resources that narrow things down so they can guide you better.

Lastly, they can improve on how to best link your components. For example, do you go directly through your receiver with a single HDMI cable hooked to your HDMI port on the TV, or do you also link components directly to the available ports on the TV. With better resources, this is where LG can assist in helping you understand simple, basic things about your brands which will be invaluable and keep your sanity intact.

There are some things that my LG TV lacks on, but it's better than the ones I've had before. The main issue I have with my LG TV is the bootup speed, another thing too is how it processes things as it takes a while for the TV to handle things. The internet connectivity on it too is pretty slow, even when connected directly to the router using Ethernet. The smart features on the TV is also pretty limited as I wished to have the Amazon Alexa integration capability in it too, but I didn't get that in with the TV -- so I was quite a bit disappointed with it. My entire house is equipped with Amazon Echo devices and it's also a nice touch where I'm able to control a lot of smart appliances and devices with it which makes everything for me much easier to manage since I tend to be pretty busy throughout the day, so it takes a while to get things going.
