Guru.com is a freelancing website, where many projects are available for the freelancers and many other best jobs
I had no troubles with confirming my card anywhere but at guru.com. And that's why they charge you with 10 dol instead of a small sum like paypal does ( it takes 1 dol and gives it back instantly). It was a month since they wrote that they returned money.

I was scammed by my freelancer. Contacted support and they never responded. I was forced to pay freelancer half the fee that he did not deserve as he did not complete job and passed off others work as his own. Arbitration feature is horrible, it forces you to either pay half or they will automatically pay it in full. No support, no help from guru staff. Avoid this site like the plague.

This company is a complete fraud. It knows it has contractors that are ripping off buyers and it does nothing to stop it. I had a contract that was contingent on the totality of the work being finished. I asked Guru.com to look at the contract. They ignored me completely when I asked them about them upholding the contract. Guru.com did not do anything whatsoever to correct the issue with the scam contractor and that contractor, Cui Wen Lan, still remains on the site after having stolen over $2,000 from me and delivering nothing. Do not use this website ever. Complete scumbags.
Tip for consumers:
Do not use this site ever. The management are thieves, the contractor theft is enabled by the bad management, the reviews are fake, and the customer services is literally useless.

Where they fall short is the lack of vetting. I am a freelancer on there and a great provider. They do allow too many unvetted freelancers and clients to post. Caution is needed when using the site but I find them better than upwork or freelancer. Upwork and freelancer advertise high end clients and I found none ever.
They do have a support number but technical problems occur for myself and my clients on there which they can never solve. I see others complain about freelancers being from other countries while listed as usa. It's also true of the employers listed. Too many now list themselves as usa and Britain but turn out to be from underdeveloped countries.
The fees are more reasonable and support tries to help but more vetting and more help for support is needed.
I was going to give them my credit card information just to get the bit of data I wanted, and then if the membership fee was high later I would simply cancel. Your explanation of how guru.com works was illuminating. I looked at many reviews, some of them very enthusiastic and some very negative... when I read your particular comments I felt that I understood why this is happening. The negative reviews and the positive reviews confused me at first, and your analysis helped me to decide not to involve myself or give them money. Their materials said that I would have a "trial membership" which would cost $1.00. It was very helpful to know that the "membership" puts you in for more charges through "Automatic continuation". The lines of communication are not clear. I don't know the original intent of the founder of this site, the intent may have been benign or not... but I do know that I don't want to get involved in the struggles others have gone through. Obviously the company wanted to get my credit card information at the very beginning. So when you give them your information thinking that they are going to charge "only $1.00" and then you can "easily cancel", it appears from these comments that once they have your information they could even keep it forever if they so choose. That results in having your information out there and possibly having it hacked. I've heard of so many companies having to write apology letters to customers informing them that the site was hacked and there is no way to prevent your information being used in what-all. They often don't find out who the hackers were. I am so glad that I have been reading reviews and have not given this company my digits. I did give them my email address but no financial information. It appears that to use this site "safely" one must really know what they are dealing with and be prepared for an unnecessary struggle over money... well, that just doesn't fit with me. So I won't "join" this enterprise. There are quite a few positive reviews here of this freelance company and also quite a few negative reviews; but knowing what happened to those who participated (and how the site works) helped me make my decision not to give them my information. Well-written review and very helpful. I am grateful for the reviews, this one actually explained why this site is having problems, along with giving them a low rating. That brought me out of the "it's only $1.00" funk that had been causing me to consider putting in my credit card number. That "only $1.00" tactic is used by many companies. I didn't know that they were also a "job-finding site" and knowing that changes my feelings about the site and the people behind it. I'm not the sort of person who would want to get involved in this, haggling to get your money back, I would have gotten very upset if that happened to me. So I was assessing the risk by coming here and based on what I saw I decided not to take the risk of giving them my financial information. The Internet is a wild, wild place and it helps to see what others have experienced before participating is such a business relationship. They are not just selling information that a person desires and then you get the specific information you wanted, pay $1.00 and then you leave and there is no problem... because the site is set up to get that financial information first. It's a bad business model, with contracted employees who may or may not complete the task honestly and fairly. Some employees may not really know what they are trying to do and may react unprofessionally I hate that. I hate trying to get results if the people involved are not proven to be honest, reliable, and informed. This would have been a terrible choice for someone like me. Your very clear review helped me pull myself out of the attitude that "it's only $1.00" (I was in a trance) and make an informed decision. Thank you so very much!
Transactions that should be simple take multiple steps - funding, Safe Pay, then pay invoice, etc. I get that safeguards are in place to prevent ripoffs, but Guru goes overboard and unnecessarily complicates matters. Adding more money to the account still doesn't make the funds available to the person you hire, and when you try to fund their account it won't let you because apparently the additional funds have not yet posted... or disappeared into some netherworld. Never again - I will deal with people directly.

I've worked on Guru as a freelance off-and-on for about four years. Certainly, compared with the competition, it is the best-managed and most useful of sites in which one can offer services directly to those who seek them. Everything works on Guru, and the fees are reasonable. What's more, Guru has been largely successful at attracting serious professionals who seek work from their peers. This has kept the fee levels reasonable on Guru, whereas on most of the other freelance sites they are derisory. Because, most of the time, one deals with serious professionals there is little friction. When there is a problem, it is usually because the employer is a poor communicator or is challenged in some fundamental way, and it is fortunately possible to avoid these (though not always). However, in the time I've spent on Guru, the quality of the employers has been relatively high most of the time. No similar site can make the same claiim -- I've been on all of them, and given up almost all. Where Guru does fail is in its arbitration process for disputes -- this continues to be of a low quality. But all the other services are top-notch, and one need not get into arbitration if one avoids poor employers. So thanks, Guru, for doing what no other freelance site seems to be capable of.
Ask for a survey, offer a gift and charge large amount later. Will not answer telephone, very poor customer service

Hello, I have just started looking for jobs at this website unfortunately with my very first encounter I was faced with a scammer who already took $40 dollars from me and now even asking for more, its so unfortunate that this happens to me with my very first opportunity makes me never want to trust this platform again, hence I'm writing this hoping to do something about it as I have taken screen shots of everything that can help identify and do something about it,
Their name is or claims to be Mark 2436 and looks for "Arabic translation" and many have already quoted for this opportunity so I can only imagine how many have been trapped in my situation and not know what to do about it, and just few days after I received a similar request using the same Telegram from another person by the name James 3271 again looking for an Arabic translator while using the same tactics. I will be reporting this matter at the App review as well so people can know and hoping to update it should you ever do something about it
Thank you.
Since I did apply for about 12 auctions to provide services every single one contacted back to me with different than asked services, all people said that can not wire money, only checks. Part of them asked of setting illegal accounts, part of them of fraud. This is the biggest fraud service portal I ever saw. All India scammers and fraud developers are there. There is any - literally any single one normal proposal or business.
Stay away.
Hundreds of dollars wasted on fake jobs copied from other freelancers/websites. When a scmmer gets blocked - they just create a new account and do it again. No support or measures in place to protect freelancers or employers. Scammy sad place

avoid this place and pick other platforms.

Guru site and policy is so confusing. As if they designed it to hide your money. On multiple occasions, gurus had been paid without my approval. Which points to another deficit... lack of vetting. More than once, guru's have taken payment and then disappeared without delivering anything. Unfortunately terms and milestones are initiated by guru... which is backwards... employer should be establishing milestones and payment terms.
I subscribes to guru paid the necseeary fees ( which is weird thing), came with 0 results.
The projects traffic is so low that u can no depend on this site for a living.
I dont recommend using this site, in the same time there is better alternatives

i recommend making no fees on the the freelancers untill they start to earn

I put up an advertisement for a role which they decided to police and refuse to post because they in incorrectly assumed that I was looking for a someone to do school work even though I as very clear that it was for curriculum design. It is also not incorrect to have someone assist in writing papers as long as you follow your institutions guidelines. Which generally means you can have some edit your work but you cannot have someone do your research, findings recommendations etc. They really need to just act like a job site instead of trying to police everyone on areas they know little about. Avoid- if I could give a lower mark and leave a comment I would.
* It does not allow to provide comments with negative reviews( good for conmen)
* Site is slow(takes 10 seconds to response after a click from India)
* Shortage of freelancers. Even after paying $29 promotional ad with 10x promise gives only 3X results
* Cheap Indian support
* Support is not ticket based and is randomly responded. It's like a bet if you get a response.
A freelancer through guru.com was supposed to make a website for me. I paid money in several stages, each time the freelancer showed the result of the work. Unfortunately after a few payments the contact was broken and I applied to guru.com for refund. They also stopped responding, I applied for chargeback to the bank. The bank refused and guru.com simply deleted my account with them and they stopped responding completely. Worst customer service. Never make a deal through guru.
When I commissioned my first two graphic designers, their work was extremely underwhelming. What they charged me for their shoddy work was downright laughable. But, then the real issue with the site was revealed. It uses this terrible "Safe pay" system, which gives the "guru" total control over the funds, as if you just fully paid them upfront. It defaults to "auto pay" which means your funds might go through even before the work is completed. But auto pay is not the main issue. Regardless of "when" it forces you to pay, you are still going to be forced to pay in the end, no matter what. You have no recourse if the work they provide is garbage or doesn't even match your instructions. There is a reason these sub-par designers are using this site. It's because, unlike fiverr, customers have no way of rejecting their garbage tier work. Don't bother. It's completely anti-customer. I only wasted a couple hundred dollars on this site. I can't imagine hiring people for more expensive jobs like web development, using this shady platform. Don't even bother with this.

Just know that you are at the mercy of whoever you are hiring and there are no refunds.

A couple of years ago I was scammed out of $600 by someone on Guru. When I reached out to Guru representatives, they said there was nothing they could do to help me, so I just had to move on with my life and deal with the loss. I have no job, so doing $600 of work and then not getting it was absolutely devastating to me. I still currently have no money, and now Guru has an inappropriate FEE just to verify your ID, which you are forced to do if you want to apply for any jobs. Not only do you have to pay them money just to verify your identity, but you also have to send them TONS of personal information that they should not need under any circumstances. They still let dishonest clients scam people out of $600 without doing ANYTHING about it, but we are the ones who have to verify our accounts and pay to use the website. I'm deleting my account. I lost over $600 to Guru and they refuse to pay me back. Don't use Guru!
Tip for consumers:
DO NOT USE GURU. Clients will scam you and Guru staff will NOT protect you. The only time they will communicate with you is when they are trying to charge you to use their site.
Guru gave my info to a scammer who almost got $2000 from me. But Guru wanted 4 docs to verify my id, charged me $4.95 to vet them, rejected 2 docs, asked for 2 more, and wanted another $4.95 to vet them. I'm thinking SCAM.
