I ordered two pecan trees from Burgess last season. When they arrived they had both roots eaten through by some type of borer. I set them out anyway and they never showed signs of life. I sent in a request and they sent me two more trees. The worm holes in the roots look almost identical to the first batch. DONE WITH BURGESS!
Never Order from here! I placed an order for couple hundred $$$ worth of plants. When they arrived they arrived in plastic bags all mangled. When I called they said that if they didn't survive they would honor the warranty replacement. I asked that the rest of the shipments be packaged better. They were not. I had verified the date that the paper work had to be postmarked by for warranty replacement information twice and I had emailed (with no acknowledgement). They are now not honoring the warranty replacement because they said that they did not receive it by the correct date. Everything had to be snail mailed. I would have been better off going to walmart for the trees!
I Called same day as order placed and cancel also followed up with email to make sure. They are claiming order was received which I never got and has denied my credit card twice. I have spoke to the following people Jamie, Andrew, Michele, Sara, Fran, Valerie, Millissa, Chris, all of them twice and still will not refund my money.
Ordered $140 worth of stuff and only half ever bloomed. 3 of the 5 trees we ordered are just sticks even though they were all planted at the same time. 1 of the 2 trees that are blooming is some deformed shape and is not straight. Ordered 2 clematises' and both were in bad shape and died. Bought 2 more from Amazon and they are doing great. 2 of my 3 red daisies never bloomed. And only 1 of my other 2 plants ordered is growing.
Last year in their 2021 spring catalog, part of my order was "fall gold raspberries" which to my surprise all ended up surviving and thriving despite how bad they looked on arrival. However I began to notice the plants looked nothing like any typical raspberry I knew of, being covered in sticky red hairs kinda reminding me of a sundew plant, amongst nasty thorns, worse than my black raspberries thorns. And did not fruit at the cane tops in fall like a typical everbearing raspberry. It wasn't until this season 2022 when the flowers began forming I realized what Burgess actually sent me were Wineberries! For those who don't know Wineberries are an invasive Asian species of raspberry. Now I live in MA so not only did Burgess send me the WRONG plants, but what they sent were a banned species in MA. Now they are ripening right now and are quite delicious, but I paid for fall gold raspberries, NOT wineberries. So long story short even if your mail ordered plants manage to survive, you might end up receiving a plant you did not pay for!
In the Spring of 2017 I ordered several trees and other plants, which were shipped bare-root. One tree was sent with no roots and the other trees were scraggly and misshaped. I planted them anyway and several trees never grew. I went through the difficult process to replace the trees and they were resent. The replacements were still not in good shape. Also, I ordered seedless grapes, and at the end of summer the plants that did produce some grapes, the grapes has seeds.
I will never order from this company again.
I received dead plants and they would not send new ones. I followed their policy and was told I didn't know a dead plant from a live one. I e-mailed them and told them I would never buy plants from them again. As a Master Gardener and gardening business owner I can tell if a plant is dead. Sounds like a lot of others have had the same problem. Be careful this company sends out catalogs using different names... one of them is Dutch Gardens. Still researching to find the others. I have never had problems from other companies... and I do buy a lot of plants!
Burgess is not a legitimate plant/seed company. Placed order, Burgess charged credit card immediately and claimed plants would should ship according to plant schedules, which do not appear to align with any other planting schedules. Order was never shipped or received. 17 calls and never once did Burgess answer their phones. 5 emails to follow up, they only response was from an Off-shore person claiming that Burgess would process order or cancel. Neither has happened, NEVER ORDER FROM BURGESS
DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM! I placed an order the 1st week of April for a$108.00. As of the 16th of June I received $10 worth of worthless seeds. You cannot call them their phone number only gives you a busy signal. When I try to e-mail the e-mails are returned undeliverable. All I wanted was a refund! I am a single old lady on a fixed income that just wanted to grow a nice garden to help supplement.
I live in Wisconsin. I ordered some roses through this company. I received them on MARCH 1. Their site says they ship to the warmer states and the south starting in March. These plants should not have been shipped to me until the very earliest in April. When I wrote them to complain, they told me to "store them in a cool, dark location". I shouldn't have to store them. I expected them to be shipped at the correct time, and I would plant them then. I told them I not only did I not want to store them, I have no garage in which to store them. They told me I could return them. Why should I have to go through all this inconvenience and trouble for their mistake.
They offer a 3 in 1 plant. 3 of the same type of plant but 3 different colors. 1st they sent me the wrong item, finally after 2 months received the proper plant, 2nd after a year it finally blooms and its 3 of the same color. Beware of Burgess and their 3 in 1 Angel Trumpet.
I placed an order by mail on 2-4-2021 my check was cashed on 2-18-21. I called on 3-30-21 was told that order would ship in two-three weeks. Called back on 4-30-21 as I had not received the order was told out of stock and didn't know when would ship. Brandon the person told me that I would more than likely get a refund. I never heard anything so I called on 5-14-21 and was told that they were back in stock and would ship in 2-3 weeks. I have no received so called back on 6-1-21. Was told they didn't know when I would get the order. I don't recommend ordering from them. This is the most run around I have ever had trying to get a few trees. I told them to remove me from mailing list. I will not order from them again. I have copies of the ordrer form and the check I have notes of every time with the peoples names and times that I spoke with them.
I wish I had found these reviews prior to ordering. Like everyone else I was ripped off by this sorry excuse for a company. After waiting forever for my package to ship it was not delivered by the post office. These crooks tried to charge me again for their return shipping and refused to provide a refund for the order that I never received! DONT ORDER FROM THEM!
Ordered a 5 in 1 apple tree. Received a single trunk with roots. No other grafts. Shouldn't a tree with 5 different apples have a few grafts? Along with that I ordered a 3 in 1 citrus tree. Received 3 tiny separate trees. They were in the same pot but I don't think that qualifies As a 3 in 1... oh it must mean 3 in 1 POT... not. I don't know if I should waste my dirt on this stuff.
So very disappointed. Why do I keep wasting my money on this crap. SMH
Spent over $200, received dried, dead tree twigs, plastic bags of rotted "plants, only things that grew (weakly) were the common ground daylilies. Guarantee is a joke, need to send back your packing label (like they don't have a copy of it?) and/or dead plants at your expense only to receive MORE dead twigs or rotted plants. Over $200 and I only have a dozen cheap items. MAJOR RIP OFF. BUYER BEWARE! Wish I had researched this company before I wasted my money.
I ordered over $100 worth of plants from them in April, I finally received a shipping notification June 10, but they didn't arrive until June 20! Every single plant was either dead or mostly dead. Like other reviews have mentioned, their phoneline has had a busy signal for the last several months and when sending them emails, I got an undeliverable notification. "Your message couldn't be delivered to *******@eburgess.com"
I will never be purchasing from them ever again and I hope you don't either.
Ordered in early May, deluvery supposed to be in late May. Called mid-June, CS said supposed to be that week. Here we are end of June. Without any communication, 1 plant was refunded, the other should be delivered in July! Theses are spring blooming plants, so I have empty beds. I CANCELED THE WHOLE THING. I will never use them again. Ever!
I spent almost $300, got 1 plant, no call return, no email... nothing, no customer service. Do not order from them seems like a fraudulent business.
Still waiting Burgess.
DO NOT BUY ANY THING FROM THIS COMPANY. First when you try to call you can never get through and when you email it takes days for then to respond. We placed an order for both seeds and live plants. We did not receive the seeds in time to start inside and the ones we received that we did plant in our garden did not grow. The asparagus roots were molding and rotten. We ordered 4 hazel nut plants and only received two. When we asked for a refund we were told they can only do replacements or credit. After the experience we had who would want anything else from them.
This is the least knowledgeable plant. Company in existence. I do not know how they stay in business. I am a retired certified arborist and know you dont ship trees in the summer. Well, they apparently don't know because they did. Trees will not survive in summer plantings when it is 100+ degrees every day. I ordered them a year and a half ago expecting a late fall delivery but noooo. My advice is not to do business with this ripoff company i ordered over $250.00 worth of plants from them in the past and only about $25.00 worth survived DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM...
Answer: My advice is to NEVER order anything from Burgess as they send dead plants, sticks and twigs and if you have placed an order then go ahead and ask for a refund because you wont be happy. The plants they send are typically dead or will not live long. Don't trust their warranty as they do not honor any warranty. Burgess has sister companies with different names because Burgess is now known as dishonest and a scam. Any good reviews you see are probably from the company itself. Read through the 1000's of reviews and you will be satisfied you did not buy from Burgess or its sister companies.
Burgess has a rating of 1.3 stars from 289 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Burgess most frequently mention customer service, credit card and dead plants. Burgess ranks 124th among Gardening Supplies sites.
