Zero stars if I could! I ordered 48 green giant thuja trees along with other items. I rototilled 300 feet and placed fabric along with drip system for these so called 3 foot a year growing trees. Then had to wait for shipping an extra 2 weeks to receive mostly green trees that were 9 inches at best if you add the root to the equation, planted along with the pep start pills according to customer service phone instructions. After a couple days the trees were wilted and after a week they were dead, along with everything else I ordered. I tried to get a hold of customer service and line has been busy for a year and a half. My next step is BBB see where that gets me. The catalog shows great vegetation and results but I believe they are a scam and their returns are a scam. STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY...
After reading many reviews after my purchase (not smart I know) I was expecting the worst. A slimy ball of mush if I got anything at all. I ordered 2 honeyberry plants. A week later it shipped. Tracking had it arriving the 10th but then it said no data available. I watched the tracking as it went from ohio to Illinois to Montana on it's way to Georgia. Not the most direct route. However when they did arrive on the 14th they were beautiflly boxed and well protected and in good health. They were both covered in healthy leaves. This being my only experience with them I cant say the negative reviews are unwarranted, but I will say considering the price I would give them another shot in the future. From my experience I think their main issue is shipping. Had my plants not been as hardy as they were they may not have made the trip.
Ordered over $100 of trees and plants. Called to cancell after 3 emails asking them to cancel after months of waiting. Refused to cancel. Still no order, except a pack of seeds. I guess that is their trick to trying to keep the order open, by claiming they mailed part of it. Now it's in the smoldering heat of summer, too late to mail anything I ordered. I will NEVER order from them again. OH customer service response? Take it up with out credit card company! They wouldnt issue a refund, we have to go to the CC company to get our money back. I know businesses have struggled since covid, but if you can't fill an order, give the customer their money back! They don't even deserve 1 star but it doesn't give me an option to give them negative 5 stars!
I placed an order in February all I received was two paw paw trees that have showed no sign of life. The fig tree I got from elsewhere is already growing leaves.
I ordered asparagus, onions sets and garlic that are suppose to go in the ground no later than this week.
I was promised the rest of my order between 3/14 and 3/28. The only plant that required a delay was the strawberries.
They decided they could ship my order on 4/15. They have not updated their zone information. They gave me different dates of planting than what my area requires.
They cancelled my entire order I have prepared three beds and it is too late to order the stuff needed from another source. I will have to go to the local nursery now to buy my root stock. I live 25 miles from a nursery. I am really upset about this.
Honestly I do not see any progress with the paw paw trees either and I think they are not going to grow either.
I cannot understand how they have been in business 110 years.
I bought stuff from them years ago and it came in a more timely manner. I do not understand what happened to this company.
Got the order the rose plants were good BUT the rest of the so called plants were nothing but dead looking roots when I spend over 26.00 for 12 plants I expect plants not just roots,

Order kept being delayed and delayed and delayed until it was well past planting season when I canceled my order via echat. Echat service person didn't offer an apology or an explanation and did not even bother to spell words correctly!
I placed an order in March for strawberry plants and a perennial shade garden. A shipping date was given for late May, as these are required to be planted in the spring. Every time I checked the status of my order the shipping date was pushed back one week. I checked the status of my order a total of four times, each time the order being delayed by one week. Come mid June, I was able to speak to someone in customer service. Of course, English was not their first language and they were very difficult to understand on the phone. Ultimately, he told me my order would be "rushed". Another 10 days go by and I finally received a shipping confirmation. Now, it is almost July and 100° outside, and I have received my shade garden, and strawberries. The strawberries look awful. I would be surprised if any of them survive. The shade garden was sent without the planting diagram, so that's frustrating. They are all bare root and very sad looking. They've probably been in these plastic bags since March! Will be interesting to see if any of them grow as well. I also ordered a bird net to cover my strawberry pyramid (ordered from burgess at an earlier date) it is a round pyramid garden and the net they sent, that's supposed to go with the pyramid, was long and rectangular. Also the net arrived with no instructions on how to use on the strawberry pyramid. Not even sure a long rectangle will fit on a circular pyramid anyway. Super disappointed and upset that my spring planting was delayed till summer and may not even grow at this point. Will never purchase from Burgess again, no matter how tempting the catalog looks!
Plants were ordered on April 26th, 2018. After shipping to the wrong address I finally received my order on July 17th. To no surprise, the Maple tree I ordered was dead - a broken stick with dry, dead roots - and less than half of the Thuja Green Giants I ordered (ordered 8 and got 3). To top it off, I have to pay to ship their dead and incomplete order back to them and it seems based on the other reviews I will have to fight to get my money back. STAY AWAY from this company! The picture attached is of the "maple tree" I ordered.
Out of the two double knock out rose plants only one survived. Reblooming Lilies never came up not even one. Multi color tulips are only of one color and all are of same color. This site does not even deserve a single star. The associates are rude and not curtious at all. Do not waste your money.
I ordered the "katchup n fries" plant. It came completely dead and broken. After reading all the below review and so many really bad review. I called the number on the order form... it was disconnected ( big surprise!) DONT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY
Only one of the thirteen plants I ordered came alive. I would give this company a 0 star if I could. No customer service even if you try to get in touch with them on th phone it is always buisy
I ordered in March a lot of plans, I only received one small pack of sunflower seeds, which were completely destroyed! Do not waste your time and money here. So frustrated!
It is May 6, spring is quickly passing, and the plants I ordered in March have not arrived.
Spent almost $100--never again will I use this company.

Most of my stuff arrived in one plastic bag. I had ordered a "Fruit Cocktail Tree" which came in cracked. They said that: "If any item you purchased from us does not live, for a FREE REPLACEMENT just RETURN THE ORIGINAL SHIPPING LABEL from the outside of the package along with a written request within 1 year of receipt. Replacement guarantee is VOID unless the original shipping label is returned."
The problem with this application of policy is that, even should the tree live, the grafts of some of the fruit varieties probably will not and there is no way of telling which varieties will fruit except by waiting it out for more than one year. At which point I might secure a new tree, and have wasted three years trying to grow the one I had bought in good faith.
Another dinosaur company which has lived past it's understanding of the Internet market and which will soon be replaced by Amazon? I think so.
After repeated attempts to get my order, I sent this to them: Can you please tell me why my order keeps getting delayed for shipping? When I ordered these items they were ALL were available for shipping and, I was told they would all be here around the middle of April to the first of May. I only received the Dwarf Cherries and I have since seen that you keep CHANGING the shipping time. It is going to be TOO LATE for me to get them into the ground and expect them to grow if you do not ship them. YOU TOOK MY MONEY, EITHER SHIP THEM NOW OR GIVE ME A REFUND. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Needless to say: They have not responded, once again they have pushed back the shipping dates instead of giving the requested refund. I have lost $145.00 to them. Based on what I am now seeing, they are RAKING IN THE $$$'s and not giving anyone the products they have paid for.
I've sent 3 emails, made 2 calls and received NO INFO. I spent over $160 and received nothing in over a month! They have not shipped anything, not answered phone calls, not answered my many emails. They have stolen my money! DO NOT BUY HERE!

I will never order from Burgess again. I ordered tomato and mint early in the spring or little before that. Plants were suppose to be here first part of June never happened so I called because around here in Indiana we plant around mothers day. So they tell me oh yea your plants now will be June 22nd well today is June 21st and I get a card saying my plants are out of stock now. Well I'm going to play he'll trying to find plants now. So NOW WHAT BURGESS NO GARDEN FOR ME THIS YEAR... HECK OF A WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS..
They say it takes them two weeks to process, then two weeks for shipping. STUPID!
When you call the "Customer Care" you get rude people who have no idea how to check on your order status, and tell you it will be a month before you get your plants.

I ordered product form them via website on 4/26. It was nothing live.
I called May 7 looking for my shipment, and was told that it won't ship until next week! 3-4 weeks for shipment, and it might be another week before it comes in! So I called to cancel. Was told to write an e-mail, I did. It got returned! I called again was told to write another e-mail because that's how returns are done and NO ONE at the office can help me with an return! SO I did! That same day I received an e-mail saying my package was shipped! I call again to stop the shipment, I am told that there's nothing that they can do, except for me to sent the package back, and PAY FOR THE SHIPPING!
I asked to talk to the manager, lady on the phone told me that there's no point cause the manager will tell me the same thing, and that's the policy that they have and I just need to follow it! WILL NOT DO BUSINESS AGAIN!
Answer: My advice is to NEVER order anything from Burgess as they send dead plants, sticks and twigs and if you have placed an order then go ahead and ask for a refund because you wont be happy. The plants they send are typically dead or will not live long. Don't trust their warranty as they do not honor any warranty. Burgess has sister companies with different names because Burgess is now known as dishonest and a scam. Any good reviews you see are probably from the company itself. Read through the 1000's of reviews and you will be satisfied you did not buy from Burgess or its sister companies.
