Can't leave a negative review. They are thieves nothing less. I ordered over $300 stuff and they failed to send allbut the seeds. Asked for a refund and they sent a gift check for them selves once more only reciving seeds. Ordered $125 of trees never recived, sent me yet another gift check but for a whole $23.72. Customer service isnt even in the counrt- they have no clue what they are doing; but more then happy to stealyour money.
NEvER buy from this company. They will send you poor quality dead plants in a plastic bag that has no chance of living. I guess the plants were alive when they sent them. They will not make good on bad plants. STAY AWAY FROM THIS WEB SITE.!
Wow, I had the same experience as most others. The plants arrived nearly dead. They were just seedlings, not well rooted plants. All ended up dying. They would not replace or refund my money even though I followed their directions and sent them the original shipping label, which makes no sense. I sent clear photos of the plants the moment I openend the package. They charged me for plants that I ordered, but never recieved. I had to work with BBB to get my refund for the plants they never sent me. The would not replacd the dead plants or refund my money. For some reason they sent me back the shipping label and told me to give the plants a year and see if they come back.
I ordered garlic in September 2021 and got them in April 2022. I ordered several plants and seeds in JANUARY 2022 I had to call to get them to send the seed which came in late for planting in zone 8 some Of plants I ordered were on back order. I can under stand these not being shipped but everything else should already be here. I will not order from company or their new owners ( I was told by a person I talked to at Burgess Is Gurneys)
I ordered a couple apple trees, hydrangeas and grapes from Burgess. I thought the prices were excellent which turned out to be too good to be true.
Everything looked dead when it arrived (packaging was a white plastic shipping bag) but I'm familiar with dormant plants so I planted everything. I have a lot of gardening experience and was a little worried about them. The hydrangeas did ok but the apple trees and grapes never showed signs of life. I called the company to get a refund and they said they would only replace (probably with more dead stuff) if I sent the original shipping label. The original shipping label was on the white plastic bag that I didn't think to save because who does that? I kept my receipt though, which turns out to be useless. They said I should have read the disclaimer before ordering. I offered to send the dead stuff back as proof but they refused. Finally they said I could fax them copies of my credit card statement to prove I paid for them. In reality, we all know I paid for them because the order would never have been shipped! But I jumped through their hoops and sent the fax. Over 2 weeks later I get the fax back in the mail stating I need to send the original shipping label. :( I talked to my credit card company and they said my claim was very weak because I didn't send the dead stuff back (even though Burgess told me not to) and also because I was now over the 30 days. I have been played by Burgess. I feel violated and there's nothing I can do about it. Do not order from this company. Save yourselves! They suck.
1st placed order May 6th. Still hadn't received and but 4 packages of $. 99 sunflower seeds. They cancelled order after shipping these seeds, without a request from me. Then charged full shipping cost for 4 pkg of seeds. Won't refund anything from shipping. 2nd I placed another order April 6th, here it is June 22th, still no order. Won't order from them again. Order shipped 2 1/2 months after credit card charged. No packing material around roots and plants were completely dried out. Also received at Hackberry as a 'substitution' for the Black Walnut I ordered. Notified company next morning and received auto reply that I would be contacted 2-3 weeks later. By that time, I noticed that the three raspberries were infected with cane borers.
Not wanting to deal with them, I again emailed and requested a full refund. Their reply was that they would ship replacement plants, which I do not want as their quality is extremely poor. They would not issue a refund without returning the plants, at my expense. However, refunds could only be honored if returned within 14 days of receiving the plants. Of course they waited past that time limit to bother to contact me. I emailed again that I did not want replacement plants from them and that the 14 days was already past. Their response:

I ordered January 12,2017 and it is March 31st and I only received a pack of lettuce seeds, sent multiple emails to customer service to no avail. Their phone number just has a constant busy signal for days upon days.

I was surprised to see negative reviews. I've been ordering from them since about 2011, and vast majority of plants grew very well. Those that did not grow, was probably my mistake in planting. When we ordered 12 knock-out roses, and three of them did not grow, they sent us 3 replacement roses quickly. But the 3 initial ones that we thought were dead eventually started growing as well after a few weeks. We bought numerous strawberries and raspberries from them, as well as vegetables and evergreen seedlings. I would say 99% of them are doing great. Actually, when I ordered batches of 25 strawberries, all the batches always came with more than 25 plants - something like 28-29. Same with ranunculus - the packages had more bulbs than indicated. This year I ordered 18 peony roots (two collections). Only 2 of them died from root rot after I put them in the ground. But the rest 16 have grown several low stems very quickly, and I even saw flower buds on two of them (they got killed by recent temperature dip, but nonetheless I was happy to see them grow that much since being planted in August-September). I have to add that for peonies I used fertilizer. I think that eburgess has been a very good company to order from.
I ordered SEEDS in February. Several emails later over the past 3 months and they still cannot tell me when they will ship. Requested a full refund a couple weeks ago, still don't have my seeds or refund.

I ordered over $400 worth of trees, shrubs, and plants in February. Only got a dead tree, dead vine, and 2 packets of seeds by April 28th. I had both of my banks dispute the charges and Burgess credited my accounts... after I told them I filed a fraud report against them with the Illinois Attorney General's Office. I suggest that anyone ordering from this company do the same thing that I did if you want your money back. Please file an online fraud report with the Illinois AG... it only takes a minute or so. These people need to be shut down and prosecuted. Every site I have looked at online gives them 1 star out of 5, with literally hundreds of complaints. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE (or their associated companies: Royal Dutch & Four Seasons Plants)... all in Bloominton, IL.
I placed roughly $800 in orders during March and April. Shipping dates were assured to be completed as soon as the weather was safe. They sent one box with small trees that sat outside my house until I got home that night. The outside temperature was 11 degrees. NONE of the trees survived. The next shipment arrived 9 days after they said it had shipped. EVERY ONE OF THE PLANTS was dead. Destroyed from the head. Literally 'cooked' in the plastic bags. Additional orders were promised, then delayed. Today, June 27th, I got a notice that part of my order would be shipped the second week of August! I have cancelled all remaining parts of all remaining orders. These folks are horrible. Among the packages I have received, bags labeled as having 12 bulbs only had 10-11. Packages labeled as having three, had one large, one small, and apparently one microscopic as I could not find the third. If I subtract the items that did not survive, I would have been money ahead to purchase from the local big box store.
I won't be purchasing anything from these folks again.
These guys are a joke! I understand the current state of things but the reality is that placing customer service agents remotely to phones from their own homes is an extremely easy and cheap process these days. None the less they have NO WORKING PHONE NUMBER, and don't mention that anywhere on their site. However if you try to call their phone it's disconnected! That says a lot right there!
It takes days to get a response to an email, yet when they do respond they don't answer any questions. I wish I had read the extensive number of bad reviews online prior to ordering. Assuming they were a reputable company, then reasonable substitutions would have been okay. SCAM! First, the plants I ordered were almost all potted. However, I am now waiting for the "dormant" plants which are apparently kept dormant in a climate controlled place (seriously?!?!) to be what exactly? They were "HARVESTED", so even though they may arrived in a pot they were not grown in that pot, they will simply be packaged in a pot.
Also, I ordered a liatris barefoot plant which was automatically flipped on my order confirmation to 25 bulbs. I still haven't rec'd responses to that or several other questions. Total shady company, misleading website, non-existent service.
Still waiting for over $50 worth of seeds purchased and paid for 10 weeks ago. I did receive the plants and bulbs after 8 weeks of waiting, but they were moldy. Save yourself time and money. DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!
I think as many as possible and soon people need to know about this business to avoid false hope from tham. As for me I"ll do my best to spread information.
Does this place even exist? The phone is always busy, no one answers the emails, and u order something and never hear nor receive it. Stay away from this place!

This is very funny because we are in the middle of October and these plants were ordered in April of 2022. Everything I ordered arrived late, dead or just did not grow. How do you plant skyscraper sunflower seeds in late September when they should already be blooming? This place is a joke. Do not waste your money regardless of how pretty a picture may look. It's not real. I would post pictures if I had anything that grew but as noted, they basically stole my money.

Do not order from this site or magazine. I am now in a credit card battle trying to get my money back after waiting 6 weeks and recieving nothing. The plants looked dead but I planted them right away in good soil. They never did show signs of life. At first I only was sure the Dew Berries were dead so on 4/11/16 I emailed customer care to ask if they would replace these plants. The emailed me back that I needed to send the shipping label (which I had thrown away) and the credit cared testamentary to prove I paid. (I used my debit card). After much going back and forth I was told they would make an exception on the shipping label. I argued that surely their records showed I had paid else they would not have sent me the order. In the end I sent the copies of the order, copies of my bank register showing the payment paid to them. They sent it all back to me and refused to replace the dead plants. Since then I have confirmed that the grapes also were dean and never came out of dormant. This eburgess.com had $58.46 of my money and I have absolutely nothing to show for it. Worst customer service ever and I will NEVER order from them again.

Answer: My advice is to NEVER order anything from Burgess as they send dead plants, sticks and twigs and if you have placed an order then go ahead and ask for a refund because you wont be happy. The plants they send are typically dead or will not live long. Don't trust their warranty as they do not honor any warranty. Burgess has sister companies with different names because Burgess is now known as dishonest and a scam. Any good reviews you see are probably from the company itself. Read through the 1000's of reviews and you will be satisfied you did not buy from Burgess or its sister companies.
