I just got to know the website through someone I met on a social network. I like the idea that the website represents but I have a question to women especially but also men. Have anyone of you had also intimate relationship with the people who hosted you or did you feel like you are expected to have sex with them?. I respect privacy of others and would like to check that my privacy will be respected by others while traveling.
The person who introduced me to the website was a man who had reviews only from women and this appeared to me a bit strange. Anyone who can share his experience with me, I would appreciate it a lot.
Thank you!

Never have i ever encountered a business that abused data so much
Signed up only to help a friend browse, deleted account same day
Just complained on twitter now 2 months later (I have had 2 or 3 emails a week since and unsubscribed to all)
Took a screen shot from over a month ago that was me complaining that i had already unsubsribed 3 times that week alone!
I cannot get them to stop emailing me
Contacting support does nothing
Contacted twitter, they said contact support i. E. get lost
I do not want these people to message me again, but cannot get them to stop
My next steps are to contact hte bbb, the justice department due to their data misuse and contact a law firm, there must be loads of people they do this to.
Stay away!
Couchsurfing is a nightmare cultish community full of moochers and people who are just there to take from you what they can. Once you get involved in couchsurfing it is like a vortex in which you are expected to only have couch surfing friends. Furthermore, it is full of political drama with different groups of people wanting to become "city ambassadors" "country ambassadors" etc.
If you feel like you would fit in well in a cult where everyone mooches off people who have free food, a free place to live etc. Then feel free to join couch surfing.
I however, prefer to be friends with people on a bit more equal terms.
I had very bad experience with their customer service after I created my account for more than three years, suddenly I was surprised that they deleted my account without any further notice
That is why I used alternative website like "swap nights"
My account has been deactivated and my profile removed.
The point is sthat I never used the app or the website.
I was registered but i never got a couch, So they just removed my profile for ever without having used the place.
Really mad
They charged $60 with no warning. No wonder the host response rate is so low. Get an ad banner and stop ripping us off
Signed up and was deceived into becoming verified, I assumed it was like airbnb where they wanted details for verification but was sneakily charged $84, will never use this site again
I went on a trip and used couchsurfing thinking it was like airbnb or something just to travel make friends maybe exchange stays but the first person I stayed with was OK but didn't really make friends and it was awkward as I didn't know what to expect. Then I stayed with a guy that ended up being really bad won't even put everything on here but he was drinking doing drugs talking about the girls he has been with from there and about prostitution etc I didn't want to go anywhere else after that but did finally end up meeting a good host that was friendly and then in Canada I met an awesome host that didn't harass me at all showed me around and made a great friend I hope to exchange time with. I met others that were trying to harass women or get something from them take advantage of someone. You really never know until you meet a person and it all depends on the person and host. For women some men try to come on to you or sexually harass you or assault you so be careful and if you can find a women then stay there probably safer.
Don't ever give them your credit card information. I did my mistake and lost $26 memembership fee. You can never ever get a couch from their hosts. They seem to be fake hosts.
I signed up for it, paid the $20 at the time verification fee. Years later I find out last month I got an unauthorized charge of $50 on my paypal, how are companies allowed to do this to customers? Now I am trying to fight these charges DONT GET SCAMMED BY THIS COMPANY
Made a student broke from verification. And charged me over $90. Karma is real and I know for a fact.
Ive waited almost 2 months for an order. Ive sent countless emails only to get an automated "we'll get back to you in 48 hours" over and over. What a waste of my time and money
What a bunch of bull Honkey social media circle jerk tom foolery. Everybody wants reviews, references, social media references, etcetera, etcetera... I would rather pay. $20 for a room for a key and come and go as I please. I started a couchsurfing profile years ago so if people came to my no-name town they could stay comfortably in my home without charge. But now that I'm traveling the country and looking to meet people and maybe stay with them, I get nothing because I haven't been busy enough "cultivating" my couchsurfing profile with "friends" and references. $#*! that, I'm a good person that won't steal from you or be rude and I don't need a goddamn social media platform to tell you such. I'll give you your $20, or $50 and still get to know you without jerking you off online. And get my room to sleep in for a night after I've enjoyed a few local brews. Airbnb or a similar website is easily as good as "couchsurfing" and better. I will never couch surf again simply because I refuse to spend my free time $#*!ing around on a mostly useless website so I can possibly stay on a dirty, used, couch or floor for free. Airbnb can have my $20, and I will have just as great a time.
Wow. It is really a scam (after comments was read). I returned my money immediately after I chargebacked it with my bank. But I have a digital card so I opened another one, transfered money there and closed the old one because these bandits can charge again.
My feedback from appstore:
Very disappointed with this service. When I registered there for the first time in my life they have ask my right after the registration to confirm email and complete verification without mentioning on the main page that they will charge money for that. I have never seen any verifications for money in my life before so I was not vigilant at that moment. When they ask for a bank card data for the verification I was surprised but explained to myself that this is how they push users to make inner purchases in future. I did everything fast and mechanically as many of us do when fill up a bank card details and after I already pressed OK I mentioned a small sentence with a price above (it was regular info sentence with with the price that was not marked). I really didn't see it. "My fault" - was my first thought - "But no worries, they seem to be a noble company so they will return money for sure" - was my second thought. I have wrote them right after I did the mistake and explained everything to them: that it was an accident and I wrote them the next moment after I was charged. With big unpleasant surprise I have received the answer that they do not do refunds (I wonder is it actually legally?). I wrote them again and said one more time that it was really an accident and I am not even sure that I will use their service at all. No answer was after that. So I called them thieves and was truly with a big awful first impression from them.
Hope, you will be more careful.
This company seems to have a history in ripping off people and i am absolutely determined to go further with this as they just charged me for a subscripition i asked to be cancelled an year ago when i first tried it for which i paid almost £60-70 as a first time fee or smth like that and once i actually tried it for a few days and i understood the system did not fit my needs i asked for a refund and subscription cancellation and they denied it throwing in my face terms and conditions. Now, for the second time, this greedy company told me i accessed the app which I didnt and even forgot about it until i saw the charge in my email and when i requested my refund as the system failed in their advantage and i didnt even use the app so i unwillingly paid for a new subsciption whcih as a reply to my tefind request they cancelled my subscirption immediatly but refused to give me my money back!
So in their business politics people unwillingly pay for a service they are able to cancel in just a sec but not pay back due to their system errors
Completely unsustainable company built on making USE of sustainability principles and on greedy $#*! decision to just rip off people.
AVOID COUCHSURFING.ORG AT ALL COSTS! THEY ARE PRACTICING EXTORTION AND SHOULD BE REPORTED!
Further to my previous review and having been forced to pay the Couchsurfing fee which were actually call "contributions" although with no access to your account until you made the contribution, this company went far beyond the greed factor and into the realm of "extortion!" My account was active still for many more months to come due to the fact that I reluctantly paid the fees, however, a new pop-up on the CS site came up stating that "due to Covid19" they are requesting more money than what was previously asked for and still calling this a contribution all while blocking access to everyone's accounts regardless if they've already paid the fees or haven't! While I don't have an issue with the site itself and the experiences I've had thus far, it definitely left a bitter feeling when everyone was locked out of their account around Covid and asked to pay a fee in order to access any of your information, friends, contacts, reviews etc. There was a lot of hype about this and the fact that this site was always supposed to be free, but that's no longer the case! They went beyond just asking for donations (which I'm guessing many would have done!) You were forced to pay the fee or wouldn't have access to any of your account information. What's actually worse is that I've learned that Couch Surfing isn't charging for every country! As far as I'm aware, it's Canada and the United States right now. I recently had a surfer who mentioned this and as much as I hated to go back to Couchsurfing and pay my yearly fee, I was compelled to do so because of the history I had already established on the site. I simply cannot believe the audacity of this company and the fact that charging a fee is NOT universal as it would just cause them to lose more customers. Unbelievable!
I ordered two months ago, they charged my credit card, never shipped items. Sent 7 emails and they never replied.
I have been a couchsurf host for around 2 years. One of my guests wrote a false accusation about me, I wrote something back as well but they removed what I wrote about her but they did not remove what she wrote about me. So, I left there forever because of their ignorance. According to my experience for two years, all I can say is that: it is a waste of time and waste of money to host people. Many come just for a free couch. They don't care about their host, they just need your couch. Builders of the website show it like it is a community where you can make new friends but it is just a group of suckers who want free food and free accommodation. I still can't believe that I give my couch for free to someone and I get cursed in return. I met great people but most of them were hippies, dirty and mean $#*!s, if you are a single guy looking for women to go for dates, this is not your best bet, trying to find women to go for dates on this website is like trying to fish in a big lake where there are only 3-4 fishes. Also, it is not worth to allow someone to sleep on your couch just for a potential date. If you are trying to make new friends, this website is not for you as well most of friendships in this website are either for getting a free couch, free maid or free tourist guide. Friendship should involving giving and taking but in this website most of members are suckers who are only interested in taking from you. To make friends, use Meetup. To go for dates, use tinder, okc, pof, etc... stay away from couchsurfing unless you see your home as a homeless shelter. Spend your money, time and energy for more useful stuff rather than giving them away to suckers.
This website has taken money from me and refuses to provide me with a refund. This website is a total scam and would warn others to stay away!
Answer: As usual this is there attitude
