My son would get bored in other schools because he did not need a lot of verbal instructions as he prefer to read and work independently. Sometimes I wake up at 5am to find him reading the lesson for the day. My son is in the Gifted and Talented Program which he was already in before he enrolled in Connections Academy so we saw no decline in grades or enthusiasm.
Our experience with MNCA has been an amazing one that will have us continuing next year. Mrs. Werner has gone above and beyond everyday to help with any struggles or questions we've had and has made this year one of the best, as my daughter also says, and she hopes that she will have more great years. Not only have we received help when needed but Mrs. Werner has made it fun, exciting, and enjoyable even when it was challenging. Everyday my daughter looks forward to Live Lesson because she loves the positivity, equal participation, and the familiar structure. We've had a great year and also recommended MNCA to many of our friends as well. I highly rate Mrs. Werner as being an outstanding teacher!
Hi Sarah, Thank you so much for leaving your review! We love hearing that teachers like Mrs. Werner are having such a positive impact on their students. We hope that you and your daughter have a great rest of the school year and enjoy your summers! ~Alexis
We were late getting our daughter enrolled to Connections Academy but everyone jumped in ready to help us. My daughter has had such a great experience. She's enjoyed her first year of homeschooling and looking forward to her next year.
Thank you, Angela! We're so happy to hear that your daughter was supported even with starting late! ~Alexis
I would spend over 12 hours a day with my kid on assignments and was never ending. And never caught up. Some of the answers in Math were completely wrong. Imagine math is stupid. We spend over 50 hrs on it and it states we only completed 1 percent. A waste of time. I regret enrolling with the program, it's a big burden especially for young children to be expected. Especially when when assignments don't stop piling up. I don't see why the teachers don't reach out? I'm pretty much homeschooling my kid and someone is getting paid for it and giving them grades.
Hi Mike, I'm so sorry that you aren't getting the support that you need from your students' teachers. We do recognize that our school requires more parental involvement than a traditional brick-and-mortar school, but the teachers are the primary educators. Can you please send us an email at community@connectionsacademy.com with the email address used to set up your account or the first and last name of your students so we can have a staff member reach out to assist? ~Alexis
My son's teacher lost his math test at least 5 times now and she keeps on telling him to retake it, and the teachers lack communication with each other, causing my son to fail his class. So I'm planning on pulling him out of connexus all together
The 2020 school year started with so much uncertainty that I didn't have high expectations that our district could scramble to keep up with hybrid/virtual/in person and variations of them all. A couple of my daughter's (3rd grade) classmates were doing Connections Academy and I figured that it would be a more seamless year for her if we did that too. It has far exceeded my expectations. The curriculum is presented in a very thoughtful way that let's us communicate on a wide variety of subjects. The way that the program is designed makes it easy to keep up, work ahead, and work on our schedule. My daughter is in gifted and the project was great. The teachers communicate well and take time to get to know students. I'm strongly considering continuing through elementary school because my daughter has been able to learn so much more than in a brick and mortar school where there is no opportunity to work ahead or explore subjects at this depth.
Hi Carmen! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are so happy to hear that your student is thriving at Connections Academy. Have a great school year! ~Regina
I have two students that were straight A and B students, Now they're failing because this school wont grade work on time and they do not Participate in anyway to help the students. My daughter was in Beta Club and now she is failing. I'm really considering placing them back in regular school. I'm starting to dislike this school. I forgot to mention how much hard work they give kindergarden students, its ridiculous My 3 children are suffering all because of these lazy $#*! teachers.
Hi Robbie, I'm so sorry for the late response. Our goal is to provide a high-quality education to all of our students and I'm sorry that hasn't been your experience. Can you please send us an email at community@connectionsacademy.com so we can locate your account and have someone reach out to address your concerns? Thank you. ~Alexis
Be careful of this school! Lots of technology problems and very little communication between the different departments. My son loses submitted lessons on a daily basis, which means wait on them to restore them, which they cannot do - or redo them! Puts him further and further behind and discourages his grades. Mark Reider is an awesome teacher there - one of the few that is dedicated and works to help in any way. So grateful we had him this year. But we can't get acknowledgement of the problem from anyone else there or any real help getting it fixed. The principal of the Arkansas school is completely out of touch with what is happening, and the IT department is nonexistent, unfortunately. The association of Arkansas Charter Schools says there is nothing they can do to help! This is where our tax dollars are going, Arkansas!
Don't waste your time! After getting all the enrollment paperwork done and sitting through a pre-enrollment meeting, for an hour, I got a phone call to let me know that my son would not be excepted this semester due to them not meeting the enrollment time. Then they proceeded to try and turn it around on me if this is how the school is run, I wouldn't want my child there anyhow. What a waste of time.So mad!
Hi Stacy, We always aim to be as transparent as possible about enrollment capacities and deadlines during the enrollment process. We are sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience and that we were not able to offer your student enrollment. We will forward your concerns to our enrollment team. ~Alexis
One of my kids graduated from Colorado Connections Academy and two more are currently enrolled. We have been very happy with the school, as the teachers are very dedicated and always available. The kids are able to go at their own pace and control whether or not they get overdue lessons. In fact, it is possible to change the lesson schedule to accommodate their own schedules. The quality of the curriculum is excellent and there are different levels of courses offered, such as Foundations, Standard, Honors, and AP. My kids are constantly challenged and engaged in a very positive way. There are many opportunities for social gatherings and events if you choose to participate. There are even different online clubs to join. Connections Academy has helped my kids learn about responsibility, accountability, and has provided them with the tools they need to be successful in this program and in life.
I would like to thank Connections Academy for all their input with our children. I'm so happy I found this school and my son accomplished more and his mental health progressed more thanks to all the attention given. I'm glad i was able to be part of this and i have referred family and friends as well. Wish all schools could be like this one.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, Melissa. We're glad to hear that your son is able to accomplish so much while enrolled here. We hope he continues to reach his full potential with us! ~Alexis
I was not eager to take my child out of the social situations of in person schooling, but we decided it was up to her. Though in the beginning it was rocky, this past year has shown that it was a good decision. She is on honor roll and has straight A's. And she's becoming Involved in things that are important to her. I Believe that this was the right choice for my child.
Hi Michelle, We know choosing which school to enroll your student in is a huge decision, and that there are many factors to consider. I'm so happy to hear that our school has been such a great fit for your child and that she has been able to focus on what is really important to her. Thank you for sharing! ~Alexis
My family travels for work, and we needed to take our son with us. We decided to give MOCA a try because of the flexibility. It has been a great success. Our son says he feels like he has learned more than he was at his in person school. My husband was concerned about his social interactions, but they have regular opportunities for him to get together and meet people in his own age group. He also has plenty of time to talk to his friends. Overall, it has been a very positive experience for us.
Hi Mandy. So glad you tried MOCA and that it's working so well for your family. We're especially glad to hear that your son is feeling good about his school work and is taking advantage of opportunities to socialize with his classmates! ~Kim
We were really nervous about doing an online Academy. We started the school year after covid started, and have thoroughly enjoyed our experience. As a parent I really enjoy being involved daily with what my child is learning. Also, my daughter has become an excellent independent learner. I think this is a good skill to have in life. This would be our second year in Connections Academy, and I don't see us changing that.
Hi Renee, We definitely understand that choosing to enroll in a full-time virtual school is not always an easy task. We are thrilled to hear that we have not only allowed your daughter to become a more independent learner but that you are also enjoying being more involved in her schoolwork. We hope that the rest of this school year is amazing for both of you! ~Alexis
I'm a Senior in high school and I've been using Connections since 9th grade and it is simply the worst. They do not let you go at your own pace and when you ask them about that policy, they say that there's a due date on the assignments. Correct me if I'm wrong but that doesn't sound like 'at your own pace' to me. I understand that things have to be turned in to receive a grade, but you mean to tell me that I have a project, a unit test with essay questions, and several regular lessons with long book readings due by tomorrow? What logic is that? It seems that the go at your own pace policy only applies to those that are ahead. Also, even if they notice that you're falling behind, they won't give you any help, or the only "help" they give you is reminding you that you're behind. The many portfolio projects can be long and can even cost you money. I am honestly disappointed with my entire high school experience with Connections.
My son attended a brick and mortar school from Pre-K until half way through 4th grade. He had an IEP in reading. They were not giving him the right help and too many accommodations in the wrong subjects. We then had to deal with a racial teacher. I had finally had enough and moved him to Connections. After moving him to Connections they immediately helped us get settled in and review his IEP. We found that he had fallen further behind and now needed help in math and writing. They put him in online IEP classes. He now is receiving the correct amount of help he needs in math, reading and writing. We are so glad that we moved him. We can do it on our schedule and that works great since I still have to work while being a learning coach.
Hello, Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I'm so happy to hear that we have been able to accommodate your son's specific needs and also provide your family with a flexible learning schedule. I hope your son continues to thrive with our school! ~Alexis
To the people having mental breakdowns about not getting out of the house, that's basically your fault because you can take a break or something yeah know.
And to the people who have over due work all the damn time, that sucks bro, but they give you 7 lessons a day and each lesson takes 1 hour or less and you shouldn't have all these over due lessons if you could organize your life.
I would say the school is good for you if you can keep it together, and you can organize your time well like most functioning young adults should.
I enrolled my 5 children with Florida Connections Academy in 2019. My children have thrived in this program. They are learning so much more, because they are able to get one on one attention not only from me, but from the teachers as well. They are able to take the time they need on each subject and not feel rushed to get something done. All of the teachers and staff are so great! They are always willing to help when my kids need it. They always message back quickly when I have a question or even if my children have a question. We love this school and I plan on all 5 of my children graduating with Connections Academy.
This warms our hearts, Carrie! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review of Florida Connections Academy! ~Alexis
When we started my daughter was struggling in public school and having ton of aniezty and failing so we decided to try the charter reach school ever since we put her in charter school she has been with less stress, more happier and the teachers are great always there to help or support your child this is her second year at charter school and we love how it fits around are schedule too
Hi Tabitha, Thanks for the 5-star rating! It's great to hear that our school has helped with your daughter's anxiety. We hope that she continues to be happy and thrives with our school! ~Alexis
I am so relieved to have found an excellent alternative to traditional brick and mortar public school. Connections Academy provides my children with talented teachers, a well rounded curriculum that is preparing my kids for college. I love the fact that they are able to learn at home in a safe environment free from the bullying and distractions that are so prevalent in a traditional brick and mortar public school.
Hi Sierra, We're thrilled to be able to offer your students a safe yet rewarding learning option! We love to hear that we are helping to set them on the right track to prepare for their futures! ~Alexis
Answer: Work at your own pace is the biggest lie out there. Supplies are usually quick to arrive though.
Answer: That is a very good question Dee. We were drawn in with that promise as well. They use exampmes of child athletes and child actors (at least they did when we were going through their website looking for schooling options) as examples of how flexible their program is but we found it to be a very different experience.
Answer: Do not put your child in this program i hate it i switched to connexus i could get more time in the gym and work out i used to spend five hours in the gym in normal school but now im only limited to one hour a day because i have so much work.the teachers never respond and its horrible they dont help me and when im at gym they call then i cant i pick up so they call my parents who are at work and will get in trouble if on there phones. I hate tis school and everyone in it and your kids will to so DO NOT DO IT! 1111
Answer: Attendance is more important to the school keeping it's Charter, than making sure a student is truly on track academically. The School has no communication skills, which is why it probably attracts lazy teachers.
Answer: I find that people take the time to vent about bad experiences rather than take the time to write reviews for good experiences. If things are working, why scour the internet for reviews. Every kiddo/parent will have a different experience with Connections Academy. Like any school program, it's not going to be right for everyone, not everyone will like a teacher, or administration or class... It's a rigorous school, not a homeschool program with lots of flexibility and curriculum that can be changed. It's working for my 7th grader, but it is hard and we wouldn't be enrolled if he didn't have me to sit by him 80% of the time. Otherwise he's getting an excellent education in Oregon and we love the teachers.
Answer: Yes, you can do you your at any time. I start at 5:00am and finish at 11:00am.
Answer: Maybe once a month. The student might get a phone call from his or her homeroom teacher on a monthly basis. Other than that, unless you or the student contact the teacher individually, then the interaction is done as a whole in the Live Lesson rooms. And so much outside stuff goes on during Live Lessons, the students do not get a lot out of them.
Answer: Hi Tina, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per day), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. Outside of the LiveLesson sessions, work is done independently, and students can typically complete their schoolwork any time of the day, any day of the week. ~Alexis
Answer: Hi Malorie, Teachers schedule LiveLesson sessions (usually one per subject per week), and other work is done independently. Teachers are available outside of the virtual classroom for more support if needed. In general, there is no set time to log in outside of the LiveLesson sessions, so students can typically work any time of the day, any day of the week. For information specific to the school(s) in your state, please email us at community@connectionsacademy.com. Thanks! ~Alexis

Hi Mildred, We're so happy that you have found a school that works for your independent learner! We hope he continues to excel here! ~Alexis
