“Items missing, items damaged, over charged, unethical”

VERY PERSONAL ITEMS WENT MISSING. Broken furniture. Drivers took FAR too long to reach destination. House lock was broken. Way over charged (driver scratched out original estimate and wrote in a new one). Exceptionally rude manager named ADAM. Where do I start? BEWARE. Of course, as long as things go exactly as planned, everyone is happy. But it's when things go wrong that you get to see what a company and what the manager/owner (not sure who this ADAM actually is) is made of. We hired this "company" because they had a good rate and for some reason, good reviews. They quoted us $850 for the move to stop at two different storage units to drop things off. Now, to start, the movers took almost six hours to load two couches, two chairs, a dining set, a desk, a tv stand, a handful of lamps, a coffee table and about 40 boxes. RED FLAG. They had to take the locking mechanism off the door to get the couch out, and ended up putting it back on upside down and stripping the screws in the process so I couldn't fix it. The first storage unit was 11-13 minutes away from our house (we used Google Maps and timed it) The movers took 45 minutes to get there (by their own admission) They unloaded fine and then it was off to the second location in Marina Del Rey, of which they took another 30 minutes longer than we did to get there. Because of these two delays, the storage unit was closed for the night and the movers had to dump all of our things into our APARTMENT! So the job was never finished. I had to borrow a truck and enlist several friends to move EVERYTHING to storage MYSELF the next day. So five trips with a pickup, a whole day wasted and we did CHEAP MOVERS job for them. No wonder they are called cheap movers. Now, onto the actual problems. When the furniture was unloaded at our apartment, we discovered they had damaged several pieces of furniture and tore a hole in a painting. They then tried to overcharge us because we had to go to multiple locations, even though that was stated up front when we booked them. The manager ADAM lied to his men apparently and said that we were moving a one bedroom. We weren't. We live in a three bedroom house and though it wasn't full, it was more than a one bedroom. The list of items being moved was given by my wife to Adam at the time of booking. But when the movers got to our house, they said it was too much stuff and would have to charge more. They had given us an estimate of $850 and then tried to string us along for $1400. The original estimate was "scratched out" and a new price was put in! This was almost laughable if it hadn't been for the fact that all of our things that were supposed to go into storage were dumped in our apartment. When we refused to sign, they just left. WE DIDNT EVEN GET A COPY OF THE CONTRACT! We found out later that they went ahead and charged us $1187 without our consent. When confronted with this issue the following day, ADAM, the manager or owner was exceptionally rude and pathetically hung up on my wife twice. That same day we sorted through all of the mess that Adam and Cheap movers left literally in our lap, we discovered items were missing. Mainly, my wife and her mother's wedding dresses! Yet again, when confronted with this Adam snidely retorted "Oh Please, no-one wants your mom's old wedding dress." So he insults my wife and then offered us $60 dollars, take it or leave it, for the broken furniture and the massive over charging that had occurred, and did not even begin to address why it had taken his men 45 MINUTES to go the same distance it took us 11 and then 30 minutes longer on the second leg of our journey. Finally, the house we were moving out of could not even be locked up because the movers put the lock on wrong and stripped the screws. But again, Adam just said, "My guys said they did it right." Thanks Adam. Because of Adam and this company's unprofessionalism shady business practices, we are not only out the time it took us to do the job we hired them to do, but an obscene amount of money we never agreed to, not to mention the broken furniture, a ripped painting and two items, (the wedding dresses) that can never be replaced. After Adam insulted my wife and I got upset, his response was simply, "Whatever, I'll see you in court." He then hung up. Please be wary of using this company. Like I said, if by chance things go perfect, everyone is happy but it's when things don't go as planned that you get to see what kind of customer services a company has. Well, Adam and Cheap Movers have by far the worst customer service I have ever seen. They ripped us off. Items went missing. Things were broken. They never finished the job because they took so long driving between locations. Adam was rude. Terrible experience.
