They're the worst to buy cars from them. The car are junk. They sold me one of the frame damage. Washed out when you buy a car from them also horrible customer service
The same car I bought a year later decreased more than $10K (a $12K car). CarMax used to be the place for fair deals. It is not now. Never say never, but this company has decreased on any integrity that once had on any type of sales - they have lost my trust and I never will consider them as my next car sale or buy
Today was the worst experience‼‼‼ After being approved was given the run around for a bunch of dumb reasons….even though most of the wrong information was because of them the only thing they had to offer was some gas to get home….can't remember his name but it was one lil guy that was trying to fix what Briona had effed up on that ride home I had to comfort and calm down my daughter because this was her first car that she was excited about because she/we was told so many times we had the only to not have the car
You tell me why CarMax is selling cars that look fire damage in engine.every car I bought from them spent half of its time in a shop or they lied about accidents my bmw front bumper well the paid is chipping off find out it's not a bmw part lol
This company is a total joke! I ordered a $50k car that was listed with several options and features. Once the car arrived, my family realized many of the clearly advertised features were not present. We went back to the location to explain this car didn't have several of the clearly website advertised options, and was told not to worry "we will make it right". So, I won't go into the extremities "I can if needed", but they quickly helped us find a replacement that 'hopefully' was as described. Finally the replacement arrives, and now they cannot give it to us because they 'lost/don't have' the title and they cannot transfer the replacement 'slightly less expensive' vehicle. Now we are told to wait 'an undefined amount of time' while they search for the 'lost title'. So they sold me a $50k Lexus with many advertised options not present in the vehicle, the front window was chip from the inside dangerously so, and the windows were tinted on top of the factory tint so dark that you couldn't see 'even during the day'. New car comes, lost title; call center, transferred, told they needed 72 hours to 'clean the car' to finally find out they didn't have a title to sell THEIR CAR, and now I'm just waiting and waiting. 1:07 'hour and 7 minutes on hold' was told we will work on it without any clear definition of time available 'we are working on it'. Keep in mind that this car was paid for in cash! No financing, just straight $47,xxx whatever money. WHAT A JOKE!
Is was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a car dealership and I'll be sure to tell everyone and anyone who ever plans on shopping at CarMax just how horrible it was.
I NEED a car, I had $10,000 in hand and I was ready to finance the rest through whoever you use, I have a 800 credit score possibly 790 due to my move but since your management has no idea how to run a business I'll be shopping at Lowe Toyota today.
First of all my appointment was made for 10:30 pm! PM!? Then rescheduled for 1:45pm the next day when my phone clearly said 12 noon. I waited for an hour to be seen and a walk in received help before I did.
Before I even came in, I spoke with two individuals on the phone about what I'd need for a 24 hour test drive, I was told PROOF OF INSURANCE and my drivers license. I went to check out the car I'd reserved the day before just to make sure I liked it in person as to not waste anyone's time, I stood in line for 15 minutes and showed 2 employees what information I had and if it was enough to do the test drive the following day. I was told yes. I looked for the car for almost an hour in 100 degree weather and couldn't find it. I was told it was because it must be going through inspection and I'd have to come back tomorrow (on a holiday). Upon arrival(day 2,30 minutes before my appointment time) I waited in a 20 minute line and showed another employee what information I had AGAIN to make sure it was all that was needed before my ride left so I wasn't stranded, He said yes(now 5 Carmax employees had told me "proof of insurance and my ID") My ride left me at your "dealership" because I was taking a car home. I was at your facility for FOUR HOURS! Picking out a vehicle, waiting for my sales person to move cars around, being told cars were available only to find out they weren't and waiting for manager confirmation only to be told that what information I had wasn't enough. I "needed to be the PRIMARY on my insurance in order to test drive for 24 hours".
Since when!?!? I was told I needed proof of insurance and my ID by 5 people! 2 on the phone and 3 in store.
No one told me I needed to be the primary and I've never in my life, at any dealership been told I needed to be the primary! Monumental waste of time. My daughter missed her event, my holiday plans were ruined and I had to WALK home. It was a two hour walk... in the rain. What kind of business are you running?
I will say this, my sales rep was very kind. She spent almost an hour moving cars around outside and I felt terrible that it was for nothing. At least now I understand what people mean when they say "don't shop at CarMax".
Carmax is great and convenient way to buy a car but they have the most incompetent customer service team ever. They will consistently ask for the same information over and over and over. They also state that phone calls are recorded but no one is ever able to verify what you were told in previous calls. As someone who has worked in customer service previously Im confused as to how there is no apparent note taking systems within this department.
We made an appointment and had a car shipped in to review. Told the car would be ready in this date at this time, but when we arrived right on time for appointment, we were told it wasn't ready. No one bothered to call us to delay or reschedule appointment, just wasted our time. We saw a Honda pilot on the lot that we liked, and we said we would like the 24 hour take it home test drive and we did. Car was filthy, drivers side visor would not stay up (safety issue) missing parts for the entertainment system, fogged up leaking front light holding water, plastic headed over. We immediately scheduled an appointment two days out to either turn the car back in or purchase it. This was the 6th vehicle we have purchased over the years and have always loved carmax, and the way they prep and repair cars for sale. (NOT THIS TIME) the fact that the process before took about an hour after selection to drive off with the car (NOT THIS TIME) IT TOOK US 6 HOURS TO DRIVE IFF WITH THIS VEHICLE ALTHOUGH WE HAD PRE APPROVED CREDIT, pre approved insurance, all documents. What carmax does now is grossly over schedule appointments and make people wait TWO HOURS past appointment time to actually talk to someone regarding purchase or test drive! In the past I purchased an INFINITY and a VOLKSWAGON and we were out the door in two hours! I know the used car demand has increased but carmax has greedily just kept booking appointments over the capability of their staff, and making people wait and wait and wait. Use to you got a vehicle for an ok price (not a screaming great deal) that had been prepped properly with minor repairs accomplished, in about 90 mins after selection if you had all documents, pre approved loan and insurance. This is no longer true. Until they return to adequate staffing, appointments that they honor, properly prepped and cleaned cars, we won't be back. Plus they have a machine charging $5 per small bottle of generic water! Thanks carmax.
Initially we bought a 2018 Chevy Malibu, we were told that a safety inspection (125 point inspection, stated on their website) was preformed, we had the windows tinted professionally and had rain guards installed which were not refunded. About 3 days after purchase we found out that rats were in the engine bay that had chewed through lines, huge safety issue, as well as no weather proofing on the roof and rear windshield, which led to major water damage to the interior and exterior of the back of the vehicle. CarMax has been nothing but unprofessional and inconsistent in their dealings. After the issue was brought to their attention they purchased it back. Then a Chrysler 300 was purchased in which the engine was squealing, the hood cowl was severely warped, and the windshield was badly chipped, again failing to maintain their own "125 point inspection" standard. Now after the windshield and cowl were replaced we are back at CarMax again as we were told the serpentine belt was replaced and the engine pulleys were "greased" as a purely temporary fix signaling to us that they insist on treating symptoms rather than actually fixing the issue. We are back at CarMax, again because surprise the engine bay is still squealing on cold start. So after being told new pulleys were ordered we find out that pulleys were never ordered and the technician stated that he never greased the pulleys. This pulley issue alone is a 5-week ongoing issue. Again here we are paying for a car that is held in a shop hoping that the issue is actually addressed and properly fixed and the shortcuts and lying stop. And we won't get into the issue where they refused to pay the entire loan off of the previous vehicle (a second car we had for 1 day from them) that they were actively trying to sell on their lot, that ordeal lasted 4 weeks, 3 phone calls, 3 visits to CarMax, and it wasn't until I threatened with a lawsuit with a Navy JAG that the issue was resolved. They hope you don't find the issues with the vehicles they are selling, but still claim a "125-point inspection." This has all occurred since March 12,2023 to present day. It just feels to us that Carmax is trying their best to get us past their 90 day warranty so that we are forced to pay out of pocket.
I am a single parent,I brought a car at carmax so I can attend to wrk so I can pay my bills take my 6 months old to daycare and other kids to school and pick them up.so bing a sing parent I need a vehicle.i have been out of a car sense Saturday I have been reaching out to carmax sense and they have been playing mind games, this morning at 9:20 i missed a call and call back at 9:35 I got a man to speak with and he told me he have a loaner for me to collect today and he will be calling me bk in a couple hours but from then I have been calling and noooooooo one answer, this is a very bad experience my job is on the edge and to my understanding they are spiteful because I am calling too much about the vehicle I should just shout up and dont ask any questions
I purchased a Kia Soul last year. A 2015 automatic with appr 95,000 miles.
I had $5000 down payment and wanted a payment of $200. My daughter is disabled so a caris imperative.
We were talked into a car with a $300 payment. We like others cou7ld not afford the extended warranty. Last month the check engine light came on. I took it where I get my oil changed. The oil was muddy, what was left. And the repair will cost appr $1,000. I am already behind on my payments and now I need to get it repaired. And now a 2015 Kia Soul with a lot less miles is listed with an appr payment of less than $150. Do your research or go somewhere else, please!
Last July I went to purchase an SUV
After two separate reviews of my company tax returns (I'm an S Corp) I was approved and an appointment was made to pick up the vehicle after they were done prepping and washing it
I appeared and the lady in finance said they were almost finished washing it and they would pull it around front
At that point the sales manager appeared and said he was very sorry but he hadn't realized I was using my company tax returns and could not sell the vehicle on that basis. I told him that Car Max had conducted two separate reviews of my company's bank statements and had approved the purchase but the sales manager didn't care
A few days later I purchased a vehicle at a dealership and discovered that my credit report showed CarMax's preferred financing company Capital One had run seven credit checks in a matter of a couple of days even though I only applied for one vehicle and had submitted only one application and had certainly never obtained my consent. I demanded that CarMax direct Capital One to inform the credit agencies of the error. After a month of demanding CarMax correct the error they came back to me and said 'sorry you will have to handle it yourself.'
I told them it was their preferred financial company that had committed the error or CarMax itself but I was not going to do their work to correct their obvious errors and negligence.
This has significantly adversely affected my credit score.
I advise you to stay away from Car Max unless you enjoy having nightmare business dealings
Ask me to wait a few minutes 2 hours later later I finally just left I will never go back this was at the Pensacola CarMax stay off is very unhelpful
Went in to purchase a vehicle in milwaukee, wi, sales person Drae Harris, did all of the paperwork up to the end. He told us wait abd we ended up waiting for 1.5 hours to find out he left for the day and never came back to give us our keys, we waited soo long that my partner and i ended up having to call in for work because we were both now late for work even though Varmax and Drae told us it would take a few minutes. We sat at his desk looking like idiots wgen the entire team knew he left for the day. No one bothered to ask questions or help us. I will not recommend anyone to purchase from carmax
We visited the CarMax dealership in Dayton Ohio. I can't stress enough how thankful I am that I didn't buy a car from these people. My fiance and I are both in need of newer cars as I've had mine for about 3 to 4 years and she has had hers about the same amount of time as well. My car is pushing $150,000 miles and hers pushing a little less. Now, bear in mind that we bought our cars from a buy here pay here before we had filed bankruptcy coming up on two years ago.
Since both of our bankruptcies have been discharged we have been able to obtain credit through companies such as Capital One, Upgrade, etc. I have three cards with Capital One which are the Capital One Walmart card, Capital One Menards card, and the Capital One Quicksilver card. I have a revolving account with Dell with about a $3,000 limit and she has a Capital One Menards card, Credit One, and a few store cards. Needless to say we keep small balances on them and are overall utilization low and can boast a perfect payment history on all fronts - vehicles included.
At the dealership we worked with a salesman named Fallon (on 11/20/22) and a trainee that he had with him. Sure he was nice but seemed unenthusiastic not only make one sale but two. That's two cars driven off that lot that day! Prior to arriving at the dealership, my fiance and I both fill out the prequalification form and it was determined that we both pre-qualified with $200 down. The payments are then estimated as your shown cars and you're shown on the website cars that fall within your pre-qualification terms. I knew the payments and APR or estimates only online and so that's why we wanted to go to the dealership and talk to them. So back at the dealership I spoke to Fallon about the car I had my eye on which was a 2018 or 2019 Ford escape. He started going through the dealership Master inventory/financing option listings based on my Pre-Qual. I didn't want to tell him right away that I had to trade in because I didn't even fill out the trade in form when I did my pre-qualification online. You should never tell them you have a trade in until you get the bottom line on your vehicle that you want - just a tip and good advice all the way around. Dealers love for people to focus on the monthly payment and the down payment which causes buyers to lose sight of the overall vehicle price that you're purchasing. Needless to say as I looked at their inventory I was blown away by what my payments were going to be. I was looking at $680 to $750/monthly. This immediately clued me into my APR which was 22% to 25%. My vehicle loan through the buy here pay here, who incidentally I love my loan company, well my new one, because when I filed bankruptcy to buy here pay here a lot sold my loan to another organization called Tribute Financial and I was paying 19% through the buy here pay here company. When tribute bought my loan I asked if I could get a better APR and they knocked me down to 10%. But again, 22% - 25% APR? On top of them trying to get me to do a 6 to 7 year loan. As if adding insult to injury, the biggest red flag of all was when I asked what the best I could do on the price of the car was. I was told by Fallon that he "has no ability to negotiate the price of the car". He also told me that what's on the sticker is the only price they will take. That's absurd.
The fact that they will not work with anybody on negotiating a better price tells me several important things - 1. They do not care about their customer base at all. 2. They are taking advantage of their customers who believe they may not be able to get anything financed at a regular dealership. 3. They recognize that people needing cars is a huge necessity and have figured out a huge way to capitalize off of it. That for me was all I needed to hear. Needless to say I got up left went on to GM's website and filled out a pre-qualification for GM financing and was pre-qualified. I pulled the trigger and submitted an application and was approved at 5% for a BRAND NEW CHEVY TRAILBLAZER. I'm so grateful I did not go with CarMax. My advice - stay far far away from them.
I was roped in to having someone come sign a loan for me at carfax in Knoxville four years ago. The person I knew I had already told no I didn't want a co-signer, she tried to play it off as helping or doing a good deed when in reality it was so she could manipulate then destroy me. The young man P.J. Was sweet, helpful and uncalculating and I was very happy I had him as a salesperson because even after we remained close friends. The person after seeing I wasn't going to be manipulated ( like 4 days later) I called customer service explaining I only drive the car and Do Not Live at the same address as the ( now dead co signer) and to please not mail my tags to her address and yall did it anyway and she threatened, even harassed me so I would sign a paper turning my car in after I had paid over $1200 already and had the car to sit in for less than 3 weeks she steals it and sees without me she cannot take her name off without ruining her credit as well and I now four years later and two years after she is deceased that her pot dealing nephew is still driving this car in my name! I've called carmax endless times and Never get treated with any respect! I also called saying she was deceased and the smart@$$ answer I get is I need to provide them with a death certificate? When I'm in no way related to this person? I will not stop on a quest to taking matters to my lawyer who I now have taking the case against Carmax! Carmax could care less about any problems with my credit this caused or the immortality of how I have and continue to be treated as LONG AS THAT MONEY ROLLS IN! OUT OF SPITE EVEN BEYOND THE GRAVE IT REMAINED IN MY NAME AND I GET TOLD I I I NEED TO PROVIDE A DEATH CERTIFICATE? SEE YOU SOON CARMAX AND ITS YOU I WILL SUE
Call max is an absolute scam, we purchased a 2019 GMC Dinali shortly after the check engine light pops on the braking assist light pops on the car randomly stops and will not start the radio has issues and we got scammed into purchasing the max care warranty which is absolutely pointless because the list of things that it covers is shorter than a list of things that it does not cover they are nothing more than just another call dealership scamming people the reader on the dash of the car clearly tells you what's wrong with it but they still want to charge us $142 to run a diagnostics we have wasted thousands of dollars with this company buyers beware spend a little extra money go to an actual dealership and have them fully explain to you what your warranty does and does not cover and whatever you do stay away from the Carmax in Clearwater Florida they are scammers
The purchasing process has been a huge hassle from the begging, lots of miscommunication. The exchange/return policy is a joke. Talk about a hassle. I will never buy another car from carmax.
Long story short carmax was trying to hold my pay off amount on my vehicle and cashed it yet wouldn't update it and told me it wasn't received everytime I called yet still charged me for the month, nearly impossible to find a higher up over the idiots I kept talking to and thankfully pissed consumer gave me the info needed to get ahold of someone who pulls strings and get my payoff updated In the system. Was literally taken care of in 2 days from the day I reached out through pissed consumer
Answer: The sales people were no pressure and very flexible. They dont throw managers in your face to close deals. It really is more of a take it or leave it scenario.
