Bulb America

I ordered 32 very small, two-prong LED bulbs from BulbAmerica recently. I ordered double the number I would need so that in the future I could easily replace them. I paid over $150 for these bulbs; it was more than I would have liked, but their shipping was high for a smaller order, so I didn't want to do multiple orders. I figured since they were LED, they would last forever.

Boy was I wrong. Three to four weeks in, more than half of the Chinese-made bulbs had failed: switching on and off or simply going out. Six weeks in and I've exhausted all the replacements. Half the lights are empty sockets now (since I've removed them), and several of the remaining ones barely produce any light.

I previously had incandescent bulbs for these lights instead, although I prefer LED. There were no issues with those, and they lasted a surprisingly long time.

I thought BulbAmerica would do some measure of quality control for the brands they stock, but they clearly don't. I suspect in reality they're actually just a drop shipping company.

No surprise, BulbAmerica refused to stand by their product. They said that since the product arrived at my home and it was outside their warranty period, they had no responsibility for the outcome. What they don't tell you is that their bulbs might fail right around the time their warranty ends.

As a side note, the reason I ordered 32 is because they wanted nearly $20 to ship a box of 16 very small bulbs. This box easily fits in your palm and would actually cost about $5 to ship.

Don't buy from them.

I purchased several light bulbs on separtea occassions and then needed to return the ones not needed. What a continued fiasco and cannot get a swift resolution to the matter. Multiple phone calls, no one answers, refunds are not applied even after tracking indicates the return has been received and the list goes on and on. What a nightmare and then the gal tells me that you have to call to request your refund? What the heck is up with that crap...so just how many people have been scammed by this outfit? If you don't file a fraud dispute with your credit card company good luck ever seeing your refund applied. Unbelievable and I will file with the BBB as well. This outfit needs to be gone!

I received an expensive bulb from this company with can in defective. They sent a return form to ship the bulb back, and on my request for a refund of $54.09, they said that they do not cover shipping on refunds, so they are only giving me the $41.99 back, which I also have not seen yet. It was their defective bulb and I don't believe I should have to pay the shipping on something from their company that did not work to begin with. Sad that the company doesn't honor the entire payment for a defective bulb.

So far, out of the 20 orders I have placed, only 1 had an issue and that broken bulb was likely the fault of UPS. Some bulbs (H11LLX) do have the wrong specs listed, like it saying it is 55 volts and 55 watts when it's actually 12 volts and 55 watts.

This is my first time ordering from Bulbamerica. I had previously purchased a replacement bulb for my Mitsubishi DLP model WD-******* from another merchant that claimed to be an OEM replacement that was supposed to last up to 6,000 hours. It looked like the right bulb and housing, but the part number was filed off of the housing. That bulb lasted just under 2 months of barely 4 hours daily use. So I was in search of another replacement bulb once again. My search led me to Bulbamerica and after reading many reviews, I crossed my fingers and ordered an OEM bulb and was skeptical that I would receive the genuine replacement. The 90 day warranty helped me make this decision.

I was very pleased when my order arrived 3 days sooner than expected. Upon opening the box, I again was very pleased to find the inner box that held the bulb and housing was clearly branded as Philips. The housing for the bulb also had the part number engraved on the side and the unit was identical to the original bulb and housing that came with my TV. Bulbamerica has earned my trust and I will continue to order from them. I would give 5 stars but I haven't used the bulb yet because I kept an old one that still has some life in it. Will be changing it out soon.

The bulbs are tested as working, but the package was something that barely resembled a box when it arrived. Thank goodness all the bulbs were still in working order.
