Better World Books

I love the concept of this company, but the deliveries left something to be desired. The first one had been put into the shipping envelope so that the book cover was stuck to the envelope glue. Couldn't remove it without teartng the book cover. The second shipment came with $11 COD when they claim free shipping. Don't mind paying for shipping, but having to go to the post office in the midst of COVID19 lockdown was not appreciated. If I'm going to pay for shipping it's much easier to take care of it at the time of purchase.

Used conditions accurately described.
Hugely inflated prices in general due to the allegedly free shipping.

Coffee cup ringon book. I was able to wash it off and I understand it was used, but really... this was fresh. I have received books in better shape at garage sales.

The book arrived very late, around a month after I placed the order. Even though I knew the book will be used, it was quite poor looking, some parts of the Pages were ripped off. I found the price (£7) a lot for a book looking like that.

I ordered 4 books and they only sent me 3 and trying to contact them about their mistake was very hard and time consuming, and when I finely did get in contact with them I had to deal with a stupid robot at first. And their way of fixing their mistake was to not charge me for the book they failed to send. I prefer to order from thriftbooks.

I order books that were sent in four shipments, but the four did not have an invoice. I had to manually go back to the order (which shows ALL of them, not by shipment) and check them off... slow inefficient process. And as other reviewers have noted, the condition descriptions are not accurate. I got a few that were ex-libr and I did not order ex-libr in those books and others that were much worse than the condition order - and packing of the books is terrible. THESE BOOKS MUST NOT BE LOOSE IN SHIPMENT!

The prices were amazing, as were the choice of titles. I found some children books that delight my grandson and my husband is happy with his selections. The books arrived in a decent amount of time, but I was very disappointed that all the Audio books titles I chose (and paid for!) were sent in print. One third of my order was for Audio books on CDs because some vision issues preclude me from reading print. When ordering, I made sure to use the Audio version of these book and verified that they were in my basket as such. I did not even receive ONE audio book! From other reviews, I noticed that I am not the only one complaining about this. I will not sure I will order Better World Books again. Too bad! There are other used books websites I can order from. I guess you get what you pay for...

I received copy's of of all 24 the books ordered however having ordered all paperbacks to carry travelling I was somewhat dismayed to receive several hardcovers. A little hard to take travelling.
This was offset by the fact that I received copy's of some books I had looked for for several years.
A somewhat bitter sweet experience. I will use again, hey they do have a large selection but won't trust to get me specific copies but know I wil get a copy.

It was okay. But needs improvements. Some pages of book is misleading. Hoping for the better one. Good luck to the author of the book.

The book, shipped on December 2nd, 2019, for unexplained reasons, reached me only on January 28th, 2020. The price of the book was good, the book was in good condition, and the strong wrapping held during its long way. A package slip, however, was missing. This whole issue leaves something to be desired.

The book was in good condition but the description failed to mention it was covered in highlighter etc. I would think that alone would prevent it from being consideree "like new."

I honestly would've given it a higher rating except that they put these obnoxious barcodes on the side of the book and they could've easily Placed them around the bar code on the back of the book as opposed to the part of the binding of the book that faces out when you put your books in a library with a bad move by bookseller.

I ordered a math book for my 6th grade grandchild, who struggles with math. After several weeks I received the wrong book. I immediately sent an email detailing what I received as opposed to what I ordered. Better World Books did respond and I Followed their instructions but the restrictions on getting what I ordered and returning what I received is ridiculously complicated. The concept of Better Works Books is great but not sure if I would order from them again. I just want what I paid for.

The description said "very good used". I would say it was "good" at best. I was expecting better quality.

I like BetterWorld and what they stand for, hence having purchased from them a couple of times.

However, in this case I spend extra money to obtain a book that was described as 'as new'. When it arrived it was in good condition on the exterior with no creasing on the spine, but inside contained underlinings and pen markings - so not as new at all. I could have spent less and got a copy that was supposedly in not as good condition.

They need to check and describe the quality of the books more carefully. Let's face it, for an extra $7 or so I could have bought a brand new copy from elsewhere.

The quality of the books themselves is okay. They're used books. One came from a library the others just seemed pretty old but perfectly readable, no pages falling out, markings, etc.

However, the shipping did take an extremely long time, even for my country where the postal service is notoriously slow - approaching two months. Also the lack of a tracking number made me feel very lost and insecure as an obsessive checker. So good price, but if you were looking for something for the weekend or on a whim I might recommend another service.

I was disappointed that the book had been rated as being in better condition than it was. The inside front cover was mistakenly produced upside down. Also, I wasn't expecting the label on the spine and it was not padded for shipping so a bit banged up. I'll keep it for the price, but I like sellers to be transparent and honest with me.

Thought I had found this book with oracle deck however, it was not even listed it had the deck so that's why I ordered it. I was very disappointed to find out this was missing, so I ended up ordering another on eBay that HAD the complete set as listed (book guide and deck of cards). Be careful if you're looking for oracle cards and guidebooks and make sure you ask before you spend your money! Now I am stuck with the book that no one will buy back!

I'm usually only ordering one book at a time, so my normal experience with this company is very good. That's why they're ranked three stars instead of one Stars right now. However, this time I was trying to order an entire series of books and we had an issue. The first volume of the series I received was an entirely different book; and when I contacted them to correct this issue, I was told that there was nothing that they could do to help me. Their system was showing that they did not have any more of that book in stock, but they never sent me that book in the first place so it should have still been there. I ended up having to order the book that I needed from an entirely different source. Better world books did at least refund my money for the book that was sent wrong, but I would have preferred to just do business with one company instead of having to source it to two.

It used to take an excruciating amount of time for my orders to reach me (2 months or more). Once, more than a year ago, out of an order of many books, I received only one book; the rest were never received. And I had a terrible time trying to get a refund.

I stayed away from them for a while, but was forced back to them because I wanted a specific book and bwb was the only website that carried it (and at a reasonable price to boot). To my surprise, my order came in a reasonable amount of time, so my faith in them has been restored a little. I'm still a bit wary of them, but I might buy from them again if I find another book with a reasonable price and which I cannot find anywhere else.

The ordered this last November 29,2019 yet I received it only last February 6. Nevertheless, the book is in good condition and intact. No torn pages.

More than once I've received a book in much poorer condition than was listed. Even when I've asked for a new copy, the new book I receive is often still in poorer condition than promised. They'll also sometimes randomly cancel parts of my orders because a book is no longer available, which is incredibly annoying because they'll do it days after my order, at which point I've already waited several days for my book.

Two books came in that I had ordered in "good" condition and they were great! I'd definitely call them "good" condition and I didn't have any problems! However, one book that I ordered in "good" condition came in and it was literally in garbage condition. Just giving this book away or donating it actually would have been an insult due to how damaged it was. I ended up throwing it away (which feels like a sin or an illegal action) and ordering the same book again from eBay.
