Questions & Answers

HI. I'm going to be purchasing a MAC in the next 5 months or so, and have a lot of MSWord docs, some in older versions, that I will eventually want to be able to open. My question is: Would the best plan be to install Zamzar on my PC, update all MS versions to 2010, and then save to External Drive for transfer to MAC? The benefit here would be to get a jump on the laborious process of moving from PC to MAC. Thanks. Z

Hi, you can convert your documents with our service, but you may find that you can open them as they are on your Mac. It really depends what version of Word was used to save the files, and what software (and version of software) you will have on your new Mac. You have three main options for software for your Mac, to open the files:

1. Purchase MS Office for your Mac and just transfer the files over. You shouldnt observe any loss in quality when opening the files.
2. Install LibreOffice (for free) but accept that some of your files may not be able to be opened by LibreOffice. You could use Zamzar to convert any that are problematic to the. Odt format, which LibreOffice should be able to open.
3. Use the Mac-specific office suite (iWork). Again, you could use Zamzar to convert any files that are problematic, this time to the. Pages format, which iWork should be able to open.

Also, just to clarify, if you do decide to use Zamzar to convert your files, we offer an online application (so there's no software you can install on your computer), so you'd need to convert your files using the software on our site.

We hope that helps. If you have any questions, feel free to email us via support@zamzar.com. Thanks, the Zamzar team.
