Like any verification, do an internet search for it. If it is not found, someone may have made it up. If it is found and it is either confirmed or dismissed, you may know the answer. For any of such verifications in general, keep in mind that it includes a "subject" in which people are for or against (like politics), the answer may not be clear. On one hand who is for will try to hide the truth, on the other hand, who is against will try to throw dirt. My suggestion when in that kind of situation is to keep an open mind for both scenarios and understand who is for/against.
