Why can't i get my account to work so that i can bid on items? this is the 3rd day...

Couple things the way the bidding goes up, i know some people are actually bidding, but does tophatter have people or employees bid also to keep the price going up? other item, when it is the last call to bid, and you place your bid and confirm and it comes up winner, then why in the heck does it start up showing going once, then twice and someone else wins. it showed i was the winner?
